Last year, I bit on $180 r/t on SWA, and then watched sadly as United and others went down to as low as $49 ea/way.

This year, I am guessing we'll see gasoline pushing $3.00/gal again (it was bad last year in August too) so that will keep prices high. But what's the group consensus on r/t air going as low as $98 between DC-Dulles and Orlando?

Anyone have any ideas? When would you pull the trigger? We are a family of five and we need a non-stop too.

Thanks!

I book Southwest when it comes out and then rebook when the prices come down or DING fares come out. I am averaging $59 each way on all my trips. I don't know why you havent' seen SWA come down, have you downloaded DING and signed up to get email notification of sales? There should be sales out for this August soon.

But I am just one person. All the rebooking for 5 people would be a pain in the buttocks. And if you're talking about $98 rt, you're most likely never going to see that again, at least not after the addition of taxes and fees.

Gasoline is already near $3 per gallon and there is talk that this year we may see $4.

The price of oil has little to do with airfares; it's all about competition....supply and demand. Out of Dulles Southwest has taken on United and fares can be lower than they should be given the cost of fuel. I believe SWA has $59 on that route right now; JetBlue has $59 to Newark and USAirways and Southwest are battling over Philadelphia with $49 fares. Heck, I let a $69 sale to Buffalo expire Thursday evening because my plans weren't finalized but when I woke up Friday morning it was $64 and when I booked it yesterday afternoon it was $59!

I got a note on Todays Ding that tomorrow was going to Be BIG .

I just got a sale price from my June trip down at $54 total and my return is already at $64 this is from BWtmI
