Walked K-12. Our elementary schools were K-6, Jr. High 7-9 and Sr. High. Elementary school & Jr. high you needed to be over 1 mile for a bus, I was 9/10s of a mile. Senior high you needed to be over 2 miles for a bus, I was 1 9/10. In elementary school we even walked home for lunch.

The only difference now is that elementary schools are K-5, middle school 6-8 and then High school. No school busses unless over the mileage.
