I like sweet wines (LOVE ICE WINE!!). So, can you make any suggestions for sweet wines?
Most German wines have some sweetness to them, either low residual sugar in a riesling or a sugar bomb like riesling kabinett, spatlese, or auslese.
Personally, the French philosopher who said "All you need to know about wine can be summed up in one word--red" pretty much sums me up. But, for specifics. . .
At WDW
Several places have good wine lists, and Artist Point is no exception. They're unique in that they feature mostly Northwest wines. Pairing their cedar plank salmon with an Oregon pinot noir or their buffalo filet with a syrah? Sublime.
Outside of WDW
There are obviously tens of thousands of wines from which to choose. For value, try an Argentinian malbec from the Mendoza region or a carmenere from Chile. You can find excellent wines from both countries for an inexpensive cost. Naturally, CA has some great cabs. Franciscan (Napa Valley) makes very good cabs for half the price that many other cult wineries do. Ahh, but I do have a cult winery to mention--Far Niente. Their vines mostly reside in the Rutherford part of Napa Valley and their reds are seductive and full-bodied. Luscious. Of course, we shouldn't forget our
bon amis in France. Some of their good bordeaux blends can still be had for under $20--maybe not an every day wine, but not a bank breaker either. Try Calvet Reserve Cabernet Franc/Merlot--smooth, silky, and has good depth.
As many have said, it really is all a matter of particular tastes, especially given what you are eating or the time of year. Frankly, however, if you love a particular wine, then it's good anytime, anyplace, with any food.
