What exactly is jersey week, and when does this happen? We are arriving in a the first week in Nov. and I'm nervous about the park crowds. Please help!!!

NJ Week is when you will find a lot of New Jerseyans in Disney.
Our schools are closed for Teacher's Convention for two days in November. This year those days are Nov. 4 & 5. Some school districts also close for Election day which is Nov. 2. Some families use these days off and take a few extra days off from school and make it a week's vacation in Disney. I also know of some families who just go Thurs-Sun of that week. I've never been to Disney then so I don't know how crowded it is, but I know it's next to impossible to get a flight from Newark to Orlando that week!!!

We too, will be there "Jersey week" (11/3-6). I had no idea what this was until someone on this forum mentioned it. I'm from NC but here is my best explanation: It is the week (or portion of week) that the state of NJ uses for teacher conventions and schools are out. As I understand it there is a larger population of NJians in DW that at most other times of the year. DW does not officially recognize it so it's hard to find any info. No one that I have asked has indicated that we will be in any kind of danger crowdwise except that it is during the F&WFest at EPCOT and we must factor that in. The way I see it is:
1. Most other schools are in session that week.
2. It is a time that is between the MNSSHP and Super Soap weekend.
3. Hotel rates are at their lowest prices of the year.
4. "Stitch" will not be open yet which may delay some local pass holders from visiting.
5. Someone sent me a PM that this time last year most rides were walk-ons!
Sooo.........we have our fingers crossed that this will be one of the least populated trips that we have made (which includes 4th of July, Christmas/NY and Memorial Day). We're ready for anything!!

I just find it so funny that people get worked up about "Jersey Week" ! It's not like the entire state descends on Disney . I think it is termed that because it seems like most people you run into are from New Jersey. Believe me, you will be thrilled with the week you picked. The weather is beautiful, you have low crowds, and you can experience the Food & Wine Festival.

You can be scared off if you want though - makes it less crowded for those of us from New Jersey . Don't worry, you'll be in Disney after all !

I scheduled last year during what was "Jersey Week". After reading so many things about it being downright crowded and such. I was a nervous wreck.

Anyhow--- we had a blast. There were no crowds. Other than seeing a lot of NJ plates (and we did see quite a few at a time)-- we would of never known any better.

The weather was perfect, the crowd levels were perfect, and I would definetly go that week again in a heartbeat.

Thanks Bella34 and kilee for the reassurance. I wasn't really that nervous but a lot of the forum posts referred to JW as something to deal with. Our first trip before the kids were in school was mid-Oct, '86 and the parks (all 2 of them) were deserted. After past trips at Memorial Day, 7/4, Thanksgiving, 12/25, 12/31, I think we will be delighted with this Nov. trip. Can't wait to see all of you Jerseyans. I'll be the one with the southern accent!!!

It seems like there is somthing going on at Disney every week or weekend. Conventions, Grad Nights, City's and states having weeks off. It really isn't worth planning your trip around one of these events. I have tried to plan trips around events. What typically happens is you just plan into another event. I think you are better off just picking a week and going with it anymore. Let's face it, Disney is just too popular. It's not a secret anymore how much fun it is to go to Disney. Nightlife, entertainment, theme parks, atmosphere, resorts. Where else can you go and have all of this within a short distance. No....this is not a commercial, but just the facts.....man!

I agree cdpa4d, the secret is out. We are not alone anymore! I started playing golf in 1979. I could walk 18 holes for $3.00 and rent a pull cart for $.50/round. I have virtually stopped golfing because of the expense and the crowds. However......I will never stop going to WDW, regardless of the cost and crowds. It just means too much to my family and me. We've made memories that can never be erased. Hope to someday take my grandchildren (if we ever have any) and do the same over and over. Excuse me, I have to pack now!
