What is the strangest thing you have seen in someone else's bedroom?

um, yes, possibly. if they had that picture out in the open who knows what the police would have found after a little searching? i am floored you didnt report this.
In hindsight, I'm floored that I was stupid enough to post it here among the perfect people who always know exactly what to do in every situation. You'd think I would have learned by now.

My dad and brother are flippers and I have seen many, many weird things. Most houses they buy are short-sale or foreclosure and some people just up and leave without taking anything with them. The strangest, or creepiest one I should say, was a house that the owner died in at the age of 97. She had no living relatives so the house went into an estate sale. When we were touring it, all the rooms were still furnished in period pieces dating back to the early 1900's. It really felt like I was stepping onto a movie set. However, there was one room on the 2nd floor that totally freaked me out. It was a spare bedroom and contained thousands of porcelain dolls. There were shelves from the floor to the ceiling filled with these dolls that were so creepy looking. She even had some hung from the ceiling by their feet or necks. There were some that were missing heads or feet and some that were just heads! My dad was fascinated and kept saying how much they were worth...but I felt like every single one was watching me and I couldn't get out of there fast enough!:scared:

My girl friend had a xmas tree with all decorations on it. It was there all yr. and moved to the living room at xmas.

So a survey was done recently by a travel site about the strangest things found in bedroom so thought I would start it here , what are the strangest things you have seen in peoples bedrooms?

Maybe it's just me, but I really haven't seen very many people's bedrooms. I mean, I've seen my parents and my in-laws bedroom's. I've seen my kids bedrooms. But I don't think that in my adult years I've been in anyone else's bedroom since we were looking at houses to buy 12 years ago.

I think we can all agree the home you bought wasn't a common listing. Most homes don't come with food & clothes. :rotfl:

Every home we've ever looked at included a stove, microwave, refrigerator in the kitchen, washer & dryer. Those are fairly basic. If those weren't included, I'd expect the seller or realtor to mention that. OTOH, I wouldn't assume anything else was included, unless they specifically said it was.

Maybe a US thing but here in NZ only the stove would be left nothing else.

Actually when we first moved to NZ we assumed the house had a fridge, ran to the grocery store on the way to meet the movers to find there wasn't one....

It used to be that way in all the areas we've moved to/from, but then became mostly optional. We've been transferred (before retirement) several times, and kept nice refrigerators, so usually if we left it, it was a negotiable item that we charged extra for.

But every seller/buyer is different and set their own terms on what is left (ie. washer/dryer, etc.) Then, of course, the microwave and dishwasher are built in.

The dishwasher is built in for us and would stay as standard here, Microwaves wouldnt.

It sounds like she either made the dolls herself or was repairing/restoring older dolls. The dolls that were hanging from the ceiling had likely been recently painted. They had been hung up while the paint dried.

I've creeped a few people out by having a My Little Pony head propped up on a paint brush while the paint dried.

I was an apartment manager and had to accompany the exterminators into all the apartments once every few months. We walked into one apartment and the guy living there had wallpapered the entire apartment, and I mean every single inch of wall space, with pictures from nudie magazines. It was gross, bizarre, hilarious, and embarrassing all at the same time.

When I was growing up my parents had a toliet in their bedroom - no door, just a toilet in the regular room. If someone was using it you could be in bed and lay right there and watch it. It was very weird.
We had a bedroom like that, when I was growing up. My handicapped grandmother moved in with us. She wasn't able to get into a regular bathroom with her wheelchair, so my Dad had someone put a toilet w/rails in her room. It was the biggest bedroom in the house, so it wasn't like the toilet was on top of the bed. In our case, it was out of necessity, but it didn't really seem odd to me.

In one house at which we looked, there were 3 aquariums in one of the bedrooms, & each aquarium contained multiple snakes. The realtor & I were peering into one, when DH looked in over my shoulder & casually said, "Oh, those are rattlesnakes."

The realtor & I knocked each over trying to get away.

At another house, when we walked into one of the bedrooms with our realtor, someone was asleep in the bed & yelled at us to get out. LOL!

Regarding appliances, we've purchased two houses, & the only appliances left at each were the stove and dishwasher. When we sold our house, we took our refrigerator, washer, & dryer, & left the stove & dishwasher.

We looked at over 100 houses (I was being picky), & I don't recall ever looking into any of the refrigerators. I felt too nosy as it was just looking into closets & opening some of kitchen & bathroom cabinets & drawers. I never opened any of the medicine cabinets either.

:scared1: I wouldn't even consider buying a house, where the owners had snakes. It wouldn't matter to me what kind of snake it was.

I had a friend whose mom and dad had a 16x20 framed picture of President Reagan hanging over their bed.

Exactly!!

That was it for me! As soon as we saw the snakes, I was done with the house, & we didn't look at any other part of the house!

Most homes here have built in microwaves above the stove top - or elsewhere - and as far as I know - have experienced - always stays.

Here there is usually a space designed for them (in newer kitchens anyway) but the aren't inbuilt, same with the fridge.
Goes to show when you move areas these are things to check :)

Wow, thank you for that. I never even gave it a thought that she could've been restoring or painting them! That was probably the more likely scenario.

You're welcome. It can be quite a scary sight if you don't understand what's going on. You probably would've been freaked out if you'd seen this in my bathroom.

The story behind this picture? I was taking pictures of my doll at a pond in my neighborhood. A gust a wind knocked her into the pond. She needed to be cleaned inside and out. I washed her cloth body by hand. Then I hung her up like this so the water would drain out of her limbs. I didn't want to completely restring her if I didn't have to. She had to hang like that for several days.

And here's her head drying in the window!

Anybody think my house is strange or creepy? :D
