What is the process to buy an old resort directly from Disney?

I did a search but didn’t find exactly what I was looking for.

What is the process to buy an older, sold out resort?

First, I’ll assume you make contact with a DVC sales rep and make the request.
Next, let’s assume the resort isn’t immediately available and we need to wait for points.

1) Will a price be given right away? Or will the cost per point only be settled when they become available?

2) Is the purchase made right away? And then you wait for the points to fill the order?
Or, do you get added to a wait list with a purchase decision to be made later?

3) For the latter, is a deposit required to be added to a wait list?

4) And assuming a purchase wasn’t required up front, how long do they let you think about it when the points become available? Is there a risk the points will be sold to another party if you wait a day or two to decide?

5) What steps (and how much time) pass between saying “I’ll take it” and being able to use the points?

Of course, let me know if I missed anything or if you have additional wisdom to share.

1. Cost is whatever the cost is when the points become available.

2. No contract until the points are available.

3. No.

4. Like, 48 hours or so.

5. Direct closing is fast. The challenge with old resorts is when the contract happens.

Once the points are available for purchase, you will have the points in your account within hours in most cases.

How long you wait will be based on what resort you want.

I bought AKL just this past year. It was "Sold Out" and I had to insist to my rep that I wanted it and was told repeatedly that I'd have to be waitlisted. To be waitlisted, I had to confirm that I was interested at X points at Y price. Once I did that, I was placed on the waitlist. That "waitlist" was about a 2-3 minute hold on the phone before I was told they were able to get me a contract. They then asked for payment information and processed my payment.

Once I paid, my points were loaded within days. My paperwork took another couple of weeks to wrap up but I had gotten an email with my login and was able to use that prior and saw my points in the account.

So, we just added a couple of small contracts to our VGF direct with Disney. Our guide is really cool and been there for many years. I told him I wanted to add, he checked his inventory and verified the points are there (including they gave us the prior UY points) then we told him we wanted them.

They have to enter it as a wait list because of their silly system. He picks up the phone, asks them to release it, done.. About 1 minute later we are ready to do contracts. The points were in our account before we walked out.
