*8/1 Update: Our Intentions Were Good, But The Treats Were Better: One Month in Disney (4/21-5/21)

After your DH recreates that flower garden in your yard, you can send him my way! Haha
I will be on the lookout for that hidden Mickey. False advertising is the worse! That’s disappointing 🙁 That burger looks yummy. I do love good fries!! We have yet to eat there. I didn’t even know you could walk to OKW resort.

Haha! It might be a while!
I will be on the lookout for that hidden Mickey.
Let me know if you find it!
False advertising is the worse! That’s disappointing 🙁
It was disappointing and a missed opportunity to actually combine cookies & rice krispie treats.
That burger looks yummy. I do love good fries!! We have yet to eat there.
The fries are soooo good!
I didn’t even know you could walk to OKW resort.
We just recently learned about the new route near Cirque du Soleil and wanted to give it a try. You an also go through Sarasota Springs and walk that way too. It's a long walk but very peaceful along the water and through the golf course.

We like to arrive early at Disney Springs, prior to opening, so we can walk around and enjoy all the sights without the crowds.
That's the way to do it. It gets so crazy there later in the day.

The chocolate chip cookie itself was very good but the cookie was a disappointment as it wasn’t what we expected. It would’ve been much better with actual Rice Krispie bars on top. We gave it a C for false advertising.
Aw, that's too bad. It actually looks pretty good!

5/1 continued...Disney Springs Dinner & Dessert
We were very excited to try dinner for the first time at House of Blues.

We knew ahead of time what we wanted to order. For an appetizer, we shared the Jalapeno Cornbread with Bourbon butter.

AD_4nXfW4HBA3vbhFvH-t9XBgwIoy8IuWw2lciVGVepVHwoiuotqkKQ20akILi6HFt86DPEaaxjGCPCEMwXPtg1rw85xshQlYuOq2YTbh4_RlYaKT85KSHyO6H-jkOjUuDjfjMT4SB2hFw

DH didn’t care for this at all. There was a taste he couldn’t identify that he just didn’t like. We left some behind which never happens! I thought it was just okay. It was dry and not flavorful.

For our entree we shared the Cajun Chicken Pasta: blackened chicken, penne pasta, Cajun cream sauce, bell pepper, tomato, red onion, basil, parmesan.

AD_4nXcJ8E7dQCjme7V7gh_JxAnVNpvO1JJdm7O2HrhFopSoe3xYwDjxgsonTA31ky3F4a4kxsXNy-Ggugx2pdUj6RLD9RvjQcfkyqz2aQsplvxwzz7dpjZlMASFBm-UGqLVd9q7a93Iyg

DH liked this more than I did but said it was just a fine pasta dish. I thought it was very bland, greasy, and lacking in sufficient cheese sauce. I have had much better, similar dishes at the Cheesecake Factory.

We had planned to get the House of Chocolate Cake for dessert but decided to cut our losses and get dessert elsewhere.

I would’ve given our meal a C+ but because DH liked the pasta we compromised on a B-. However, there are so many better dining options at Disney Springs, I doubt we’ll eat here again.

We walked over to Salt & Straw to try their ice cream for the first time. We both got double scoops of the same two flavors. Strawberry Tres Leches: strawberry ice cream with a cinnamon-spiked vanilla tres leches cake swirl and streaks of juicy strawberry jam and Chocolate Gooey Brownie: Fudgy chocolate-y brownies get folded into an intensely rich chocolate ice cream

AD_4nXdDdecaCDbjZTAcCAX91GlauFn2pdeRuJH3KjYsHXfU9SHdTmo6yHZEOpqNupmyAbCUKDc4jPxpQ01-wl4xrlKLEOeeB8iYOopb1KzaQhMLxyA683BIpm2l7DWdIwn5AgNvU3ZB_Q

The flavors of these two ice creams were both excellent but for us not worth the high price tag of almost $25 for two ice creams. We actually preferred the ice cream from Fat Donkey in Cocoa Beach and it was just under $14.50 total. We gave Salt & Straw a B+.

Overall we had a great relaxing day walking around and trying new foods in Disney Springs.

Total steps: 25279

Up next: Another day at Magic Kingdom with some tasty food.

My parents used to spend most of the winter at my condo and my DS was in college down there commuting. He liked having his Memere there cooking for him and they would take him to House of Blues bc they had a dish he loved. I think it was lobster Mac & cheese. I’ll have to ask him.
I think me and DH ate there only once- there must’ve been a reason for that.
Salt & Straw is on my list for this coming trip.

Pretty cool to have Chef Memere while in college! Way better than cafeteria food I'm sure. We wanted to love House of Blues but sadly did not.
Salt & Straw is on my list for this coming trip.
It is very good just pricey.

5/2 Living the Lightning Lane-Free Life

I had gotten pretty proficient with the Genie+ system and purchased a few LLSPs but had not yet utilized the LLMP system. My original thought was to practice with it on this Magic Kingdom day before using it when our sons came to visit at the end of our trip. Being an off-site guest with an Annual Pass though I found the selections to be very limited so we decided to forego purchasing it again. The good news though is that once the boys arrived we would be onsite guests and have better selections booking 7 days in advance for the length of our stay. The new LLMP system does really benefit onsite guests in my observation and with the length of our stay we really didn't need it when it was just the two of us.

We parked at the TTC, took the ferry, and arrived at the tapstiles 15 minutes after opening. We headed to Haunted Mansion which showed a 13 minute wait, this means it was a walk on. While we were in the “elevator” we noticed at the end that the hanging corpse wasn’t visible. We had heard rumors they were removing that part but were surprised to see it might be true. We decided to investigate further on subsequent days to confirm it. I will report our findings later.

The attraction stopped for a bit in the graveyard scene. It was great to be able to really take a look around and see all the details.

AD_4nXcJBgy8nm707yzsArglbiuMAZ-988jCqnDB-u51Fucik8K-EvIC0edZlZvz_SmwOtzDcU5TQoU4udqbg9MKE_XGY8J2bHIJaOjqOAd-Stpc-bbX6-IzOTkjlluyQH4G_Wdwhs8X

We rode Tiana next. The wait was posted at 40 minutes and it took us 34, not too bad. We haven’t ridden this enough to know all the scenes but it seemed like Mama Odie was not working properly or missing in a scene.

As we made our way to ride Pirates, we were lucky enough to catch the Adventure Calvacade…but we don’t talk about it..

AD_4nXcx-snv79zjZSFEUSKSsgZVzCz9ozZzjB_t24idXhWQfzoGgPPRK972oDOrhLokMdLEWxFW7QdoEPlPhbf9UardzkabPhJSglePzyOF3JgLeTTEcnech6T_DROhuGOLzylv7lH8

Very fun! We finally were able to ride Pirates after it was closed the whole day on our prior visit. It was posted as a 20 minute wait and took us 25. Pirates is one of our favorites!

We headed next for an early lunch at Columbia Harbor House, another new to us restaurant. We both ordered the Maple-Mustard Glazed Salmon with green beans and rice.

AD_4nXeU_SqhhHWv9YSB9G_bAGtBwJM_6-k3UWL8tWVMX9G4pVsKhPJooAOEd1tpDC8EBJYgkCojoR94IqGRI9C8vlTkhGemaiOCZQA6NrIgiFkCTb0JkXvxL_HY7vBlIIJDmzKIDTwW

This was surprisingly good for a quick service restaurant. Everything tasted fresh and the maple mustard glaze was delicious. It didn’t end up being the best salmon meal of the trip but definitely respectable. It’s funny, last week I ordered this exact meal at a fancy restaurant in Lincoln, NH (with Thai Chili sauce instead of Maple Mustard Glaze) and as I was eating it I remarked to DH that the meal I had at Columbia Harbor House was better! Columbia Harbor House’s salmon was fresher and better cooked and the sides were better prepared too.

With our meal we each ordered a soda and asked our server about refills. He said we could get one free refill if we came back up to any counter. At the cost of $4.79 per soda, it’s nice to know we can at least get a refill (which we did without issue).

For dessert we shared the Boston Cream Pie: Vanilla Cake layered with Vanilla Cream, Chocolate Popping Candies, and Crisp Pearls topped with Fudge Icing and a Cherry

AD_4nXfbpxzboXaXr48N_mkkaBcVCgyLGYNj8OcX7QrBAxsJ9CnGLmDHDtWvtFfxhaGenPhZ1PhF_LEos_BQJgh88zcEUqXErZrTmIpHxSDAdGpCKkQSp8SbAaXX-USh2kD_NeCngwZyOg

We were very surprised at how good this was! There were a lot of textures and great flavor from the chocolate ganache and vanilla cream with the crispy pearls and cake. We gave this a B+.

Overall we were very satisfied by our meal at Columbia Harbor House. We had a great table upstairs overlooking Liberty Square and the food was very good. We counted Columbia Harbor House as a dinner, since this was more of a dinner type meal and gave it a B. For us a B means we had a good meal and would definitely eat there again but it isn’t on the “must-do” list.

As we walked along, we stopped by the Tangled restrooms and tried to search for Pascal. We remembered a few years ago that there were hidden Pascals in the area near the restrooms and had found quite a few. This time though we didn’t see any of them. Does anyone know if they still hide him in that area? It’s so congested there we thought maybe he had been removed.

We made our way to Tomorrowland and experienced the People Mover and Carousel of Progress. We decided this time to sit in a different spot in the theater and we saw so many different details! We even found a hidden Mickey in a flower display in one of the scenes.

We caught a showing of Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor. It is always so fun to see the audience interaction. People usually are such good sports and play along.

After the show, we headed down Main St. and stopped by Crystal Arts to watch the glassblower.

This was really quite impressive! Another hidden gem we had no idea was located right in the Magic Kingdom!

We made our way to Adventureland and picked up a treat at Aloha Isle: The Pineapple Upside Down Cake. We ordered it with Coconut Dole Whip.

AD_4nXenhum1HiqdqGUSzc1bDQOfEpREYNT7jgGgc-U5VKxM1OAzI1hHdHFNnnV70vh5WyJY7gAvShnLIE_dq6eHNGfd3yXNOo7eKCkFrJZdJGRa6KOOARy9u-xKRjSFHnmNH6WeF2xw

We both really enjoyed this! DH had never tried Coconut Dole Whip and he loved it! I’ve had it a couple times but I guess I was keeping it all to myself! So good! We gave it a B+.

We finished our afternoon seeing the Country Bears, riding the train from Frontierland to Fantasyland, riding Under the Sea and then It’s a Small World.

Having accomplished all we wanted to do without Lightning Lanes, we decided to walk to the Polynesian for dinner. Our walk took us 1.43 miles to Capt. Cooks.

We wanted to try something new but we also wanted our favorite salad on property, the Superfoods Salad. After looking at the menu, nothing really stood out. I decided to take a peek at the menu for Trader’s Sam’s Tiki Terrace and asked the bartender if it was okay to bring a salad from Capt. Cooks and also order something from their menu. She said it was perfectly fine. So, we brought over our Superfoods Salad: Kale and Cabbage tossed with Quinoa and Edamame, Walnuts, Grapes, Blueberries, and Mandarin Oranges served with a side of Apple Cider Vinaigrette

AD_4nXdW6LS8AIlEws1PQI080CpdApZzexn3ZBGhxwkUPOT-KZSijDsxWsbGkdIfNIreYcnTlCjq5H6c3aduCgt3zLMCRg_cKxuves5ch4FP83ADKUrrFrPjUAgGZme2zTGfwqPQO-as

This salad is just phenomenal! Everything is so fresh and there’s just so many interesting elements. One of our favorite things to eat!

From the Tiki Terrace, we ordered the Thai Chicken Flatbread with Bacon and Peanut Sauce.

AD_4nXeSwZGUqzfEgvJ3W0VT-VGyIl8L0F2BQ9q-Z3bcr2Qe9FzWl2MHlbzmvtPXUFV3RyIFjMG4PeSuRxRGZncV8xsQBz_p4KhYiegxuoYXiczDZtADyPpwJ6fmxUWq_jVK9ufQ37VbnA

This was excellent as well! It had a perfectly cooked crust, plenty of cheese and great flavor from the bacon and peanut sauce. It was a perfect meal sitting out on the terrace, enjoying the view! As I mentioned in my review of Wailulu, while it was very good, this meal beat it out! Capt. Cooks and Tiki Terrace get an A from us! We will eat here any opportunity we can get.

From the Poly, we walked back to our car at the TTC and drove to a new dessert place. Since we were spending nearly three weeks at Flamingo Crossings, we thought it was only right that we check out at least one of the meal locations there. I was intrigued by the White Rabbit Dessert Experience so we headed there. This is a chain restaurant that has a variety of sundaes made with homemade ice cream that you can order with made-to-order waffles, crepes, brownies or cakes. There are also a bunch of baked goods, milkshakes, and an espresso bar. It is a dessert only restaurant (as some poor patrons discovered when they came in looking for dinner). We decided to share the Dark Side Crepe: Proper Chocolate Ice Cream, Brownies, Belgian Milk Chocolate Buttons, Belgian Milk Chocolate Sauce.

AD_4nXeX9ZhkZkmu4IViCY_wYdQqJC41a-xnvRQACB6-lmZYAZXvlKht0QVPBgQqHOfXwyT-m5FaW7RHYha9d5GkmPG7k96uyKRPRO2BPqO5yMO1e5zZIIvKc5JpwhLObnQWCR1HLqZ-

Phenomenal! Everything was obviously homemade and fresh. This was by far the best sundae dessert we had the entire trip! We gave it an A+. If you have a car and love dessert, you need to check this place out! The place was empty when we dined there so I hope it sticks around. We wanted to go a second time but never had room in the schedule (or our stomachs) but we will definitely make time for this again!

After the day before’s mediocre food day, this one hit the mark. It was one delicious day and interestingly enough we didn’t have one restaurant that required a reservation.

Up next…does our foodie streak continue with breakfast at Trattoria Al Forno?

I love Captain Cooks and Trader Sams Terrace! I would much rather sit out there than the actual Trader Sams lounge! The salad does look very yummy!
Your dessert looks delicious as well!

We've never been to the Trader Sams lounge. We never want to waste the time waiting in line to get in. The salad was delicious and since we had a salad, we "earned" that dessert, haha!

First of all…Wow! You did a lot that day. We did Genie+ once and only once! Agreed that it doesn’t work for AP off property which is almost always what we are. We occasionally like once a year stay on property for our summer vacay. We’re staying at WL next week for the first time. But even then we used it a couple years ago while on property and it wasn’t what I expected nor did I want to be on my phone all freakin day. So I refuse to pay extra for that since we go so often. I get it for families and people who don’t go often. Rant over! Haha
CHH was always our go to for lunch. We love sitting upstairs especially in the middle right over the walkway. It’s so cute in there!
The glass blower is really cool to watch.
The CC salad looks delicious! I like the tiki terrace. I don’t really get the hype for Trader Sam’s…it’s ok it’s just way too small in there. OMG I showed DH that chocolate crepe and told him where it was and that we need to try to get over there!!!
How funny that all the food was so good and no ADRs!!!

Oh shoot! I was hoping you liked this place. Andi and I have it on our list for our late summer trip! We might have to do the sushi place in the Swan, instead I have heard really good reviews for that one. Andi and I really liked Tokyo Dining the former place before Shikki-Sai
The desserts look yummy!
Definitely go to Kimonos! It's so good! But check the opening hours. The last time I went it was only open Wednesday to Sunday.

I was hoping my son would have a chance to go to Kimonos when we stayed at the Swan but we haven't fit it in yet. Glad to hear it is good!

How exciting! WL is on my bucket list to stay there some day. It is such a beautiful resort!

Rant away! We only use it now when the boys are with us and have limited time. I do find it nice to skip the lines but it adds a level of stress to the day that I could do without. Having to zig zag all over the place and figure out how to stay within the redemption window was a pain.

We had no idea he was there until recently!

Ugh..I don't like small spaces. Probably won't ever go to Trader Sam's.

Do it! I'd love to hear your thoughts if you do!

The more we go, the less we feel we need ADRs. We have found so many great quick services and lounges that we love! It also makes it so nice not to be on a time schedule.

I agree 100%! I used to want to go to a sit down restaurant every night, but I’m starting to feel like I don’t want to be tied down. I told DH to only make a couple of ADRs this trip.
This is our relaxing vacation. We’re spending every day at the pool/ resort and nights in parks. Lounges are also a great option!

5/3 On the Boardwalk

I’ve been eager to try Trattoria Al Forno for quite some time and finally made an ADR for breakfast. Since we had a reservation we were allowed to park in the Boardwalk parking lot. We were seated promptly outside per our request. Here is the beautiful view from our table:

AD_4nXdl_v9pji2DRYTK4JgJ-azBvvnx67ZDggRW7uSGYFai9eCik3Cg0OopnBZRPBdo_9Qya7QfUjDDsrldSfKD42dGSEdWab1VPNeY0I2WPhvn-Lae6MiVkC6jHo6jCBFMz-n9YvoI

I started with an iced coffee: Trattoria al Forno's special blend of Artisan Coffee, Cream, and Sweetener served over Ice

AD_4nXcsE-q9F5MQZbpOK9vf7Zc4YSSBPdYD_cyy-SAq6TGDHDaSDEf9PpJsVexct1wAJDIK08gmDRLdbgLynAzZ0W2mUbsyIpBrcWBFQgRLiQWPk0t8zx53pJ42tq4PukDAcsLeJnSraw

This was delicious! More of a dessert than a drink but very good!

The whole reason I wanted to eat at Trattoria Al Forno (besides the iced coffee) was the Al Forno Eggs: Brick Oven-roasted Cage-free Eggs, Polenta, Fennel Sausage, Spiced Tomato Sauce, Country Bread

AD_4nXfuymK80_e5Zk_0ntaDuL4aSffFenOwAhOeGqBe-mekYxbhYNRI0PZ1OzadM7hx-p4HZaykLiHdvx58qyQXJORy1rv5-MMJl3ho9TsNMp6Nyf6Ybtd3II_zyEZOt_B-LOaALrwY

This did not disappoint! The bread was perfectly toasted and so good when dipped in the eggs and sausage tomato sauce. I absolutely loved this dish!

And then, there was DH’s meal…He loves the yogurt with granola so much at Satul’i Canteen that he couldn’t be convinced to try anything else once he saw they had a similar dish on their menu. I was hoping he’d try the breakfast pizza or seasonal pancakes. He ordered the Fruit & Yogurt Plate. This was supposed to have honey yogurt, granola and fresh fruit.

AD_4nXdVsl62hVwA5O_XYI6Y67Yu8BfQ-cvD77BkCZ1sJETLcXX6R5JBXZU8RmAOz1J2xtqKOSRwiWh2ObrSaInxoAO5U_6s7sOdCw3UjJYHu2XipaVciI5V-U2v2gKMKg-09zzbupiDUQ

Sadly, this dish was nothing like Satul’i Canteen. He thinks they forgot to add the honey to the yogurt so it was just that tart plain yogurt taste. The berries were old and wrinkly and you can see the apple slices were brown and mushy. He was very disappointed by this dish.

Unfortunately due to our vastly different experiences, we simply couldn’t agree on a rating for Trattoria Al Forno’s breakfast so we had to do two separate ones. I gave it an A and he gave it a D. I hope to try it again some time so that he can order a better entree. I do think he would like this restaurant.

After breakfast we took a long walk around the boardwalk and then headed back to our car since we only had 3 hours that we were allowed to park in that lot.

We parked over at Hollywood Studios mostly so that we could spend the day touring the skyliner resorts. Once we arrived, DH needed a treat after his abysmal breakfast so we headed into Hollywood Studios for one of his favorites. I couldn’t believe how crowded the tapstiles were one hour after opening:

AD_4nXc8vGc90ODjT2G6Gf3Xfo5letAg561u9RkHgsogZAVYahHFU1QSHNsCDZZws6LEs_lPM8GduS8pJasb5c7Ar2EqiiWszzrUn34H4aAhL7KMbLrTuaK5wbciONf9p4q7HXmEZOIWPA

Entry to Hollywood Studios is the worst.

Once through the tapstiles, we headed right to the Trolley Car Cafe for a Carrot Cake Whoopie Pie.

AD_4nXcbPLAg6SE5U9UwXAJP8YVcqZRfS3f0o2GNOw8SZ0BVAFXq4f8coE4OjrI7l5jOMHK51VzmlVCuc8WBGzteKWelrincYCsyffZfBNQbLDgcJif2yr43bsVoQcvfxq7U8NWqNVbwWQ

This is always one of our top-rated desserts. The carrot cake is tender and the cream cheese frosting is delicious! DH’s tastebuds were much happier after this treat!

After our treat we actually walked back to the boardwalk again and did another lap. I knew that the pool at the Yacht Club and Beach Club was under renovation but we were both surprised at all the scaffolding around the resorts themselves.

AD_4nXc6AX2TkLF-UBnZdATI8AWtY611Cpp181sX5eD4uU9LD1v2i0zUlxeX0MPhRuwMxJbC1-KtUqGrmCBU2eAe0rTLJy8RkDfcNZdlAiwsg2fnNEgPaV24kN4TVMDedI7vgCvnFete

I felt bad for anyone staying there but it seems the scaffolding wasn’t there long as it was gone the next time we visited.

After walking around the boardwalk, we walked over to Epcot so we could take the skyliner to the Riviera Resort. We walked around the Riviera and then headed to the Caribbean Beach Resort. We went to the Banana Cabana for a light lunch.

AD_4nXc6OjEV6xeqsiIzq0guvfEdtPwnKLgobB45CpURC7efnVu6f0a-wSzBJSHQCM56F8vYzqOzKSE_DPbSuysZLxdMTRB9mIB68z3cv8FlEQV_qD0n_uDWbe5yUM7T2917FVqfxQn3

We shared the Calypso Salad with Jerk Chicken: Mixed Greens, Avocado, Red Pepper, Black Beans, Tomato, and Cilantro-Lime Vinaigrette

AD_4nXfuTOpIRjbZjvwzaDFFUfHRChVjzS9TXjkAuqSYObSmi0VgUcmaEtPg84bgoSQKQSzneLnNnSjsynrk-JaLVQY2p2rKG28x4elPrxaT7anLlKXgPADC-aKgSfxwCgLvoensFKCexw

This salad was very good. The chicken had a nice jerk seasoning and was cooked well. As you can see in the background, we also ordered the Caribbean Chips and Dip: Caribbean-spiced Chili, Pimento Cheese, Pico de Gallo, Peppers, and Crispy Tortillas

AD_4nXfvPmzvSOr7XaoP9X7jGcF5GGzFMUv99GlpH911uIq-E13zcL3ubBSkOisuhQNMapKWriHvt7T_H_8i_hH7nrKTYccVgXk09JlReYptAVadC0zQhQr__r0VV76oppvkAcAWoAqbpQ

This was the sleeper hit of our trip! Wow, was this good! Underneath the pico and the cheese sauce was a tasty layer of chili. We had never seen anyone get this before in any food reviews and we were totally surprised by its tastiness. Our server told us that they make this from scratch in house every day. This is our second time eating at Banana Cabana and it does not disappoint! Banana Cabana gets an A-. It gets the minus only because it is a very small menu and there’s limited seating. We will definitely eat here again.

Up next..continuing our skyliner resort tour.

I've been reading and liking, but hadn't responded to anything, but I absolutely love, love, love your trip report, so you know.

Regarding Trattoria, that Al Forno Eggs dish is absolutely one of my favorites. Also, it USED to be one of our favorite places to eat, however, they did a way with my wife's favorite which was the Tiramisu French Toast. Interestingly, if you've never had it, it had a wonderful cream layered inside of the French toast.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it like I did. I miss it because we don't go now because my wife isn't interested in the other items on the menu.

Thank you so much for reading and commenting! Glad you love my report! I love writing it 'cuz it always brings back good memories (except for that lizard part, lol). I don't think I'll be able to convince DH to go back to Trattoria Al Forno any time soon either...maybe if they bring back that French Toast. That sounds like something he would love.
