What is the most you have spent on a room at Disney?

Wow, I'm really cheap compared to you guys. $194 for CR wing this upcoming trip for one night...other than that $174 for WL Courtyard.

The most I've ever paid for a hotel room anywhere was $79 for the Hyatt in La Jolla, CA. We leave in 2 weeks for our first WDW trip and we're splitting our stay with 5 nights at Mariott Village for $56/ night, then 4 nights at POR for $140/night. I still can't believe I'm actually paying over $100/night for a room. I actually considered spending $234 for one night at a Universal resort to get the express privilege, but I just can't bring myself to do it when that money could be spent on souvenirs instead.

I guess everyone's priorities are different, but unless I literally had enough money that I could spend whatever I wanted whenever I wanted without even thinking about it, I can't see myself ever spending $1500/night on a room. I just don't see the value of that when so little of our vacation time is spent in the room. I guess there are just a lot of other things I'd rather do with that money. Hope that didn't sound like I was criticizing anyone. Like I said, everyone's priorities are different and if spending that much on a room is what makes a great vacation for you, then by all means, go for it. :goodvibes

That sentence made me laugh SO HARD!! You are right--each person has their own priorities!! I would NEVER care about buying souvenirs. I'm not a shopper, and I don't care to clutter my home with totchkes, and I don't decorate with character items, things that need dusting, etc. I could go to WDW without a penny to spend on souvenirs and be totally happy!

Souvenirs are the last thing on my list of priorities. Oh, we might buy a sweatshirt here or there (usually just if we end up needing one late in the evening and we didn't bring one in with us earlier) and one time dh bought me a watch without me knowing it that he gave me for my birthday a week after we returned from WDW--but we really couldn't care less about buying souvenirs. We DO care however, to stay in a very convenient location, with concierge convenience, and a beautiful view. We are in our room enough to enjoy having our morning coffee with a castle view, and watching the fireworks from our balcony with a nightcap is so nice too. Even if I wake in the middle of the night to make a trip to the bathroom, I LOVE seeing the castle changing colors just across the water. Sigh. Thats the kind of thing that is worth it all to me--not the marketing souvenir-y "junk" that they sell in the shops. (You know what I am saying--"one man's junk is another's treasure" I know, I know)

I just don't care for shopping, and it is the last thing I want to be doing on vacation. Give me a beautiful resort anyday, I'll take it over something I'll just have to dust later--and that will probably end up in a yard sale someday anyway!

edited to add: this made me wonder what your souvenir budget is. In fact, that sounds like a new parallel thread--"how much do you budget for souvenirs" or "what is the most you have ever spent on one trip for souvenirs".

Once your kids are grown and have flown the coop, you might think differently. Mine is still "home" but other than feeding him, he's pretty much on his own. Makes a big difference in the budget :) Something to look forward to :goodvibes

As the grown-up-child I completely agree, Now my brother and I pay for ourselves when we go to WDW and now that we're out of Mom and Dad's place it's a lot easier to have "the finer things in life" :) for them and us! ;)

$24,000. Oh wait, that was for DVC ;).

The most I ever spent for a regular resort was $151 per night for 6 nights. ETA: I actually spent more. I spent $450 on a 1 BR at BWV on NYE 1999. It was a weekend and a cash reservation was cheaper than using my points.

I completely agree! I take about $200 for souvies every time we go and usually come back with that same amount. I just don't find a lot that I want and I'd rather spend that amount on snacks, food or the room.

we spent $2600 for 6 nights cr 12th floor last oct and worth every dime :cool1:

The Poly GV on New Years Eve at Holiday Rack Rate. It is for our up coming trip and I have no idea on the exact dollar amount we paid. It was booked through DU and since there are six of us (2 adults and 4 children) we always need two rooms.

According to Disney's site it is $539.66 a night per room. :earseek: I am sure it will all be worth it. ETD we will be there from 12/31/05 to 1/8/06. I hope we can atleast get AAA rate for a few of the days at the end of the trip.

Your room rate will go down on 1/1 or 1/2. Make sure to split up your reservation when codes come out.

LOL.
We aren't big souvenir spenders either. But we have 4 kids who have always loved buying things from Disneyland, Sea World, etc. For this trip, we've budgeted $100 for each child for souvenirs. We'll be visiting each disney park plus Universal and Sea World, so I thought that was pretty reasonable.

I can certainly understand why people would want to splurge on a great room if that is what makes them enjoy their vacation more. How much you can afford is certainly a big factor. It's a lot different to spend $500/night on a room if you have enough money that you can still do everything you want to do. Our budget is pretty tight, so we have to make careful choices about what we are spending our vacation dollars on. If we had a much larger vacation budget, I would probably have wanted to try the Poly or AKL and spend the whole trip on-site. But if we spent that much on the room, we'd probably have to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at McDonalds. :)
So we decided to spend less on accomodations so we could have plenty of spending money for nice meals(including 4 character meals), treats, a side-trip to Universal, and yes, souvenirs. ;)

Like I said, everyone has their priorities. And there's nothing wrong with spending your money however you choose to spend it. :earsboy: :cool1: :goodvibes

wow...WOW :bitelip: :bitelip:

I'm embarrassed to post, but it was around $85, including tax. Before that, it was off-site, and since then, we've only gone during value season so usually with the AP rate, $49.

I LOVE this thread, though. I mean, WOW!!

We stayed at the WL March 15-19. Our room cost was $1160. It was worth every dime!! :cool1:

Most spent was WL (rack rate) $254 for woods view

This trip -Poly gv-$254 (AP rate)

Okay, I don't know if anyone has this situation- our MORTGAGE is only $200!!!!!! ,so when we spend over that for a room per night...it is kind of funny......

Now before you feel sorry for me... wondering what kind of place we must live in- I am right between Miami and FT Lauderdale, ten minutes from the beach... on golf course (country club community) with four pools, sauna....it's a 2/2 condo that I bought when I was single....

I don't work yet, but when I start as a teacher (with my master's) next year at 37,500 (not much, I know...it's Florida)...that money is all extra.....he he ...you know what kinds of things I am scheming and they are all WDW related!!!!

HAHA, we are in that situation! We just moved to DHs hometown which is a very small city with about 5,000 residents. Cost of living is very low, so we just bought a ranch-style home (3bed/2bath on an acre) in a great neighborhood and our mortgage is just over $300. We laugh to ourselves all the time because a house like this in Atlanta where we used to live is worth about $300K.

Isn't it nice being able to spend more money on other things on like...um, like DISNEY!?!?!?!? :teeth:

That's AMAZING!! My property taxes are over $500 a month. When you start working you can stay Presidential suite. Congrats!! I am just planning now what will probably be our most per night at AKL concierge, I'll let you know.

where do you people live with such low mortgages?? :confused3 our mortgage is $1800 and that is pretty low for around here.. i want to move where you are LOL

I'm serious. Ours is almost $3K. But if we moved somewhere else, the job opportunities wouldn't be good in either of our fields, so it's a trade-off.

I live in Central GA...where there is nothing but a river, a state park and a couple grocery stores. :teeth: My DH was offered a position at a bank here and it was a great opportunity. But if I didn't work at home, we would have never moved here...the job opportunities for GIS Market Analysts are zero.

It's a definite trade-off. We don't make as much money as we did in ATL, but we have a house and a yard for less than half of our rent in ALT. Shopping stinks and I can't find Havarti to save my life, but there's no traffic, I know my neighbors and I can leave my doors unlocked at night. This is the kind of town I want to raise my kids...

It must’ve been in the neighborhood of about $375 per night on a honeymoon room at the GF main building concierge. We got an AP rate on the room (nearly impossible now) that was back in the days of the 40-45% off when Disney wasn’t doing as well. I’m glad that Disney’s attendance has improved so much, but oh how I miss those huge AP discounts! :teeth:
