You will have a great vacation no matter how much or how little you have planned.

A little planning goes a long ways. No planning allows for surprises and discovery.

Relax! It's your vacation!

Glad to hear you enjoyed the secret verandah!! For our first Disney cruise this October I booked an inside stateroom on deck 7 aft to be close to the verandah that I learned about on these boards.

I am confused?:confused3 Is there a secret verandah in these rooms, or is there a verandah near these rooms on the same deck?

Also, how bad is the motion in aft?

TIA,
Lesley

One more question? My DH loves to smoke cigars when we are on cruises, can you smoke on this secret verandah?

There is a public verandah on Deck 7 all the way aft (wooden door with porthole type window). I do not know about smoking regulations there...but I believe you can only smoke on one side of the ship, so I don't think the rear qualifies. :confused3

There is a smoking area at Cove Cafe in the adult section of the ship on Deck 9. They even have cigar 'events' there.

So the verandah is a closed veranda instead of an open one?

37. you can turn off charge privileges on your kids KTTW card but you can add a preset amount for them to use for smoothies, movie candy, arcade, etc.... this saves them running up big $$ on the room account but they still have some "pocket money".

Thanks for compiling the tips. This is a great one! Do the kids have to use ALL of the preset amount?

Wear goggles on the Banana Boat Ride at CC!!! :thumbsup2

I second that! I thought I'd go blind when we did it! Although, I seem to remember them not wanting us to bring anything with us, like sunglasses, so I'm not sure they allow goggles? They should consider them a part of the gear, though!:lmao:

selfish bump so I can find this on my other computer.

But I guess I'll add a cruise tip while I'm at it. I'm headed on my first disney cruise but have cruised many times before. My best tip is to bring a light sweater/sweatshirt. I almost always had one on, the ship is always so cold. I also like to pack a couple of comfy nightime outfits after the show and dinner sometimes I like to change out of my better clothes and be more comfy.

I know this isn't an exciting tip, but I always bring two rolls of quarters for the laundry. That way you don't have to "flatten" your one dollar bills, or pull from your room service tip stash.:laundy:

They are moving the smoking area away from Cove Cafe to the other side of the ship. I think it's already gone into effect, but I'm not sure. Now someone besides the smokers get to use those comfy chairs outside of the Cafe.

My several bits of advice . . . .

  • If you have adjoining rooms, bungee cords are a must.
  • Bring along your own alcohol in a roll on cooler, saves a bunch of money buying drinks and you can use the cooler for packing souvenirs when you leave.
  • Board early . . .the short wait at the terminal is worth the extra day on the ship.
  • Palos Brunch is a MUST. Dinner is good, but not as good as brunch.
  • On a seven(or more) day cruise dont pack half as much, pack 1/4 as much and use the laundery service half way through the cruise.

These "roll on coolers" everyone is talking about...do you check them with your luggage at the curb to be delivered to your room, or do you actually take them on the ship yourself? The reason I ask is because we always get to the port really early so we can get on the ship really early, so we are usually on the ship for a few hours before we can go to our stateroom and it would be kind of a pain to lug a cooler around with us.

i'm new here! tell me about the cat 7 please. i'm about to book a cat 9 tomorrow for our nov. 09 cruise. what is the deal?

It's my understanding that if you fill the cooler with booze, you have to carry it on. Yes it is a bit of a pain, but trust me, it goes by QUICK!

If you go to this thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1002071, and scroll down to the virtual stateroom tour, you will find a ton of information about the different rooms. I have stayed in both and if you can afford it, go with the cat 7. It has a varanda and completely changes the use of your room. Cat 9 has a large porthole window, which is nice, but nothing beats sitting out on the varanda drinking coffee in the morning.
