What is "nontransferable"

The wording on the ticket defines non-transferrable as: "must be used by the same person on any and all days". Disney does allow for gifting of tickets, it's just that once it's used - that person must continue to use it for the remaining days.

I would buy the number of days of ticketing you'd need, and save your older park hoppers for a shorter trip.

Yes, not too bad. Still, I end up spending $900 total (including the $500 I paid for these hoppers) for tickets that today would cost me $500.

sorry but if they give you what you spent and you spent $500 wouldn't you come out even?( what am i missing) and does that incude any passes...ie i have some disney quest i bought last trip and didn't use...are they still good or not?

I think the part that you're missing is that you're assuming I will be able to upgrade the tickets. As I tried (poorly) to say above, many are reporting that you can no longer upgrade pre-2005 tickets or apply their value towards new MYW tickets. If this is true -- and there is a debate on the point -- the ONLY thing you can do with old park hoppers is use them. If I have to do that, I'll need to buy 3-day MYW tickets to get the full number of days I need for my trip, which will end up being a total investment of about $900.

I read a Ticketing update before I left WDW in January that said such, but I was not there while it was implimented, so I cannot be for sure on that. I wish I had a concrete answer, but I have not even been near WDW Ticketing since January 1 - Thus I heard about all the changes, I just never used them myself.

What type of tickets do you have from your last trip?

If they are "Park Hopper Plus" passes, then they would not be good for Disney Quest unless it specifically says so on the ticket. Old Park Hopper Plus tickets did not include disney quest, and were only good for the waterparks and pleasure island. In 2005, they added Disney Quest to the "plus" options with the "Magic Your Way Magi Plus Pack" now known as the "Water Park Fun and More pack" Those would include DisneyQuest as long as you still have a plus leftover to use there.

mine are just plain dq passes not connected with park passes. sorry, lark, i get now why you have a dilemma. ot but what about kids tickets? can they still be upgraded for myw passes when they turn adult?

Oh yea, Disney Quest passes do not expire until you use them as long as they are for the one located at Downtown Disney ( Chicago passes wouldn't work, for example ).

Talked to a friend of mine that currently works at WDW G/R. He told me that they did indeed stop upgrading the old ticket media.

The only way you can upgrade or modify those tickets is if they have been completely UNUSED.

Not sure why I'm having so much trouble communicating in this thread, but, as I said in my original post, they are completely unused.

Are you sure about this, though? I've been told that you cannot upgrade them or use their value, regardless of whether the are used or not.

He told me that they could not be touched unless they were completely unused. I appologize, I did not see that you posted that they were un-used.

Since they are unused - going off what my friend told me, I don't think it would be a problem. He's no longer online, so I can't ask him - but going off what he said earlier, since they are completely un-used, it should be ok.

Thanks much for the information. Well, I'll give it a try and see what happens.

I may be missing something here, but...

In one sentence, you say that you CAN'T upgrade the old tickets, but in the next you say you can.

Because Park Hopper (and Park Hopper Plus) tickets were discontinued as of Jan 5, 2005, there's no way you can upgrade a partially used ticket anymore. The rule used to be that if they were used, you had to upgrade within SEVEN days of the tickets first use. Since it's been far longer than that, the ONLY kind of Park Hopper (or Park Hopper plus) ticket that can be upgraded now are completely unused ones.

Does that make sense at all?

USED old tickets can NOT be upgraded.

UNUSED old tickets may.

If I find a CM at GS that looks confident and experienced, I will just ask flat out whether I can transfer them to another, since they are unused. If he or she says yes, I'll sell them on ebay or something
The potential problem with this is that there's a difference between "transfer" and "sell". To the best of my knowledge, only authorized (by Disney) ticket resellers can legally sell Disney tickets. On the other hand, as these are entirely unused you can give them to anyone. (moot now, I know, since someone posted the official policy on the OP's situation, but posting anyway for general reference)
