What is Jersey week??

There are days in November where teachers in NJ have conventions, so schools are closed. It's a very popular time to go down to WDW since kids in other states are in school and the weather is supposed to be great (I have never gone this time of year). Since I don't have any kids I couldn't tell you when it is in 2006-- but I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses-- there are lots of us in love with WDW here in NJ!!!

Like I said, I've never gone this time of year-- From what I hear, it's close to summer crowds. But the good thing is that it's not as hot or humid. I think I would definitely try it one year.

It's usually the first or second week of November (This past year it was 11/10-11/11-the actual convention). Before I started teaching (about 7 years ago), DH and I went down during Jersey Week-unintentionally and we didn't think the crowds were too bad. It was also Food & Wine, so that might have added to it. I would go every year during that time because of the weather and the less crowds but my district requires teachers to attend to convention so no luck for me!

We went in 2003 and it was nice. The weather was good and the crowds weren't horrific. The week is usually the same as the November elections. In our district the kids get off on Tuesday (election day), Thursday and Friday for the convention.
Hope this helps.

We were at WDW during Jersey Week this year. The crowds were heavier than January but not what March Break is like, or summer or Christmas for that matter.

The very busiest was when we went to MGM on the weekend of Soap weekend. It was a madhouse and we'll avoid it for sure. The crowds during Jersey week are heavy but if you go first thing in the morning it is ok until noon and then crowded until dinner time.

We'd go that time of year again and during Jersey week if we had to .We have the luxury of sceduling around it so we'll likely go the week after Jersey week, but before Thanksgiving.

We missed Jersey Week in Nov '04 and had a very magical trip so we went again in Nov '05 without even considering Jersey Week. We were very dissappointed. Jersey Week IS my worst fantasy of horrors. We hated it and will not travel to wdw in November again. The weather is perfect though. I just hate crowds and waiting. We fast past'd everything but just walking though the parks was horrible. It changes the whole energy of the place. I'm from a slower paced area than New Jersey and I just get riled by the bruskness of those from Jersey. I don't mean to offend, I just move slower than y'all and in crowded spaces that doesn't really go over very well. I surrender and will avoid Jersey Week henceforth.

Alaska,
im from jersey originally-now in new york(5yrs) because my DH works for the NYPD..but i understand what you mean about us fron nj. and i take no offense-we are aggressive, fast paced by nature :hyper: . i always say "its in the water". but i would avoid that time also..you go to disney to get away from the craziness..imagine diving head first into that there! :scared1: we are an acquired taste...a good taste, but definately an acquired taste.

DH is from New Jersey and has lots of family there, but I would whole heartedly agree with you. The whole atmosphere is very different, even from summer crowds. Much more "intense". We would visit my husbands aunt who used to work in Manhattan and it was kind of like when we go into the city with her. YIKES!!! Get me out of here!!! She absolutely thrived in it all and loved it. We have lots of wonderful dear family in New Jersey, but for a vacation I think I'd skip doing Jersey Week with them!!!

Found where the convention is going to be Thurs, Nov 9 & Fri, Nov 10, 2006 for their NJEA convention.

This is where i found it.

I'm looking at going around Oct 30 - Nov 3, this year.... first solo trip!! :cool1:

I can't wait!!

We are from MN and we were in the World at the beginning of Jersey Week.
We met alot of nice people from the East Coast.
The weather was SUPER!!! Warm during the day and mild at night.
(NO RAIN!!!)

We got to each park at opening and cruised onto all of the popular attractions. During mid-afternoon, the longest wait we saw was 40 minutes for the major thrill rides and some fantasyland rides.

It was busier than when we went in October in the past, but It was manageable with the FAST PASS system and early arrival each day.
I would definately travel again during this time.
HAPPY TRIP PLANNING!!!!

I've gone down a lot of times during Teacher's Convention, since I've been off from school. The crowds aren't horrific, they aren't that bad at all. The more popular rides have about 45-60 minute waits tops, but that's an extreme.

The weather is nice, its not too hot nor too cold. The Food & Wine Festival is also going on during this time.

The only problem is there are a lot of groups of teens down there. I guess people bring friends at that time. That can be a problem if there is an especially rowdy group of them, but otherwise it's a good time to go down.

Jersey week is the second week of November. It is deemed this week because the schools get off for Election Day (Tuesday) and then they are off Thursday and Friday for the Statewide Teacher's Convention (held in Altantic City). So many people will go down to WDW because its value season and the kids only have to miss 2 days of school. For 2006 the week of November 5th thru the 11th is teacher's convention week. It is usually not crowded but everyone you will meet will be from Jersey. So if you are not from "the Great Garden State" and you meet someone from NJ; Just ask them: What exit??? Park way or turnpike??? and they will think you are a fellow NJ resident

we were there for this past jersey week and we had a great time. I did'nt think the crowds were overwhelming . we never had to wait more than 20mins for anything. so go ahead and avoid jersey week and leave it for us!! :wizard:
