WHAT is going on with all the power failures?

AK had several multi-attraction power outages this past month, and today all of the parks do (due to storms)- both indoor and outdoor are affected. Is this becoming a more frequent occurrence or am I just more tuned in to day-to-day Disney news?

wondering if they need to upgrade some infrastructure…

I think AKs may be unrelated, but not at all unusual in the summer due to storms. Pretty frequent actually.

I’m actually glad to hear that. I’ve become a fan of reading wdw news frequently, so I’m probably just more aware of a common occurrence.

The month of May 2021 was actually pretty dry. Almost a drought.
But that has absolutely no bearing on what it might be in May 2022.

We’ve been there twice in May and both times weather was pretty good- hot (low 90s during the day), not as humid as summer, and a few random storms but nothing memorable.

did u find it too hot or quite manageable

we will have 2 one year olds so better get some strong sun cream

I was at AK last Thursday. There wasn't a cloud in sight, no storms anywhere and there was an outage. I've been going to AK over the summer since they opened (except last summer). I have seen severe storms and never experienced outages. Prior to the outage on Thursday there was a fire alarm going off just as I was walking over the bridge to Dinoland. About 15 minutes later the electricity flashed on and off, then that was it, power off in the park.

My husband doesn’t do heat, and he managed ok. We went the first time when our daughter was 10 months and once when she was 20 months. Taking her at that age are some of our happiest memories.
Find the baby care centers at each park- they are fabulous. Great place to change them, relax, have a snack. There’s even a dark room with rocking chairs for nursing or naps. The family thread in this board is very helpful for planning purposes, but feel free to pm me if you want to chat more!

Weird. That’s sorta what I was worried about- big scale technical problems. I imagine they are working hard to fix it. With all the hacking stories lately it had my guard up- but I’m sure it’s just a glitch (much like their MDE) and it’s definitely in their best interest to make it right.

What was it like while the power was off? I can’t imagine that people were too happy...

Most were just walking around. We did the Jungle Trek, Gorilla Falls and walked around looking at the other animals. That's basically what others did too.

I live in the area, and although ORL hasn't had much rain in the last 2-3 months , at my house the power has flickered a LOT. When that happen( sometimes just a second) it turns off the cable/ electrical devices. That is what is happening on property. Knocks the rides off and they have to reset.

Yes, I am local and have had a couple quick power blips when the sun was shining last week. When the storms came this weekend, I was prepared for power outages but they didn’t happen. I have a lot of things that have to be manually reset when the power goes off, including my AC (it’s a safety thing that prevents a power surge from frying the unit). Disney is just on a bigger scale. I was at the Contemporary years ago when the power supply was hit by lightning and the hotel was without power for over four hours.

The thing is, I've never heard about WDW having power outages like this. We usually travel to Disney in August and storms abound at that time. Never experienced any outage, although they are always possible with storms. I don't live in Florida, and yield to anyone who lives in the area, that they know more than I do. Just saying it's not been my personal experience, to have outages in the parks. I've seen more talk of power failure on these boards in the past week, than I ever had. Actually, I never heard of a power failure there, although I know they've had them One thread mentioned most rides in MK were down the other day. It's like an epidemic of outages and with lots of storms in the area in summer, I just haven't noticed the electrical problems happening to this degree before Of course, I don't always pay attention either

Outdoor rides going down in the afternoon happens usually several times a week in the summer due to storms, thats not at all unusual.
Like I said though, something else was happening at AK. But I don't think anybody knows what. I haven't heard of any other parks having those kind of issues, just storms putting rides out.

Yep, the outdoor rides are understandable- they won’t operate them in risky weather.

I would imagine that wdw has enough back up generator supply to power a small country- so these wide scale outages for indoor and outdoor attractions has me scratching my head!
