What if My Band Doesn't Work at TS?

We have to save up every penny in order to go on vacation, so by the time we go there is nothing in the bank to pay for things with. If we're using the MB and they fail at a TS, we wont have the funds to pay out of pocket, so what happens?

Carry the credit card you have attached to your MB and use that.

But OP said there won't be any money left in the bank, hence nothing to charge with.

I'm assuming OP is going under FD. If the bands don't work for some reason, a CM will be able to make it work or pull the entitlements from your reservation.

That said, OP needs to understand that tips are NOT included as part of Free Dining. This can be a decent amount since you're basing the tip on the actual cost of the food - a good $20-$30 for a family of four per meal...

If you were planning to use your MB charge privileges to charge things back to your room, you should plan to carry the credit card you are attaching to the MB with you at all times. In order to have "charge" privileges, you must attach a credit card to your room.

If you have the dining plan, they should be able to pull your credits up even if something goes wonky with the MB.

I am aware of the tipping situation, when I was crunching the numbers for the DxDP I tallied the total in tips. I'm using that to buy a Disney Gift Card which I will use to pay for tips.

I'm also taking my souvaneer money down on a gift card and wont be attaching a credit card to my magic band.

First of all, if it happens, don't panic. They scan your band before you even order a thing. At our very last TS meal of our trip, my IL's bands wouldn't scan. They tried both bands several times and neither scanned. We were at the Yachtsman and freaking out because we had left 2 table credits for it and no way were going to pay OOP. The waitress stayed calm and said, "No problem, I'll go re-boot this." She did and got our drinks and came back and after a couple more scans, it read the band. We had had no problems with any of our bands up until that point. If you do get an KTTW card, make sure you bring it and even if you get a printout of your meals and snacks, bring something like that, just in case. They understand there are problems and are pretty patient about working out the kinks.

on the very back of the MB there is a bunch of numbers. The CM can imput those numbers directly into the computer to access your TS information. No worries but if you do have a KTTW card, please bring it anyway

You must be staying on a point stay then as you are required to leave a credit card for all other stays (or at least a debit card).

Not true. Disney does not require any payment form to be left with the front desk. It appears that online check in requires it, but waiting to get to the resort allows for no card to be left.

We've always been asked for a cc at check in. :confused3

OP, I'm kind of confused by your situation. Are you getting the DxDP with your stay? The credits are totaled on the MB. Like pp said, they will check before you ever order, I would imagine.

If you're worried I would carry some type of proof as a backup. I don't know what that would be, though.

At the meals where our MBs failed for TS, they swiped our KTTW card to take off our entitlements instead.

.

You can decline. When they ask for the card, I always say that I do not want charging privileges on my KTTW card or on this last trip, my Magic Band. They have never questioned that. You certainly are not required to leave a credit card or debit card on your account- I never do.

Hopefully your Magic Bands will work fine. Our friends were a mess. They did not work the first 2 days, and they did have the problem that it would not accept them for the dining plan for the first meal. They did have to pay with either credit card or cash- I'm not sure what they would have done if they did not have either. I'm hopeful that WDW would have worked it out for them. On the bright side, during the trip, there were also a few charges they made with their Magic Bands that did not show up on their account. When they discovered it, they tried to have WDW fix it as they didn't want to have anything without paying for it, but WDW basically told them they couldn't figure out how to go back and fix it, so not to worry about it and just consider themselves lucky.

When I did online checkin for two of our upcoming stays it LOOKED like you had to give a CC, but I just clicked past it and it allowed me.

Who knows if it's still doing that, because this part changes every so often (we have 4 upcoming reservations and two online checkins required the CC but the next two did not), but that was my experience a month or so ago.

We are asked IF we want to put a CC down.

I think Nicky's worried because there have been times that the computers are down and there could be problems.

They are phasing out KTTW. They have already stopped them at POP and All Stars. I don't know if they will issue one by request, if they will give you one without the magnetic strip to get fastpasses.

Wait, WHAT?
If this is true I'm going to cancel my package all together.
We've never had to attach my credit card for charging in our past trips, if this is now a mandatory thing I'm out. (We just didn't get charging privileges, which is fine because I don't believe in charging things anyway.)

Given that I have seen posts on these boards about places charging their cards when they shouldn't have been charged, and my paranoia due to not one but two cases of identity theft I have had to live through...

If they are going to FORCE me to do this then I'll just cancel and head over to Universal.

Yeah, we always end up getting the DxDp, with the two of us, the way we eat (we like three course meals), the number of sigs we eat at combined with the number of character lunches/Breakfasts we do it actually does make sense for us. =) Esp when you take into consideration that we both prefer seafood which tends to be pricey.

If they check first then we can wait until they work it out and not have to worry about what to do if it happens at the end of a meal.

No worries, you don't have too attach a credit card at all

So have you ever set up charging on your account before? If so, did you only use giftcards?

Because the times we have set up charging they have told us we have to have a CC (or debit, I imagine) on account in order to do it. We've never asked to ONLY put a giftcard down, but it's never been offered, either.

Just want to make sure that you CAN do what you want to do, and I'm not sure if you have done it in the past.

I assume that she meant she would bring the gift cards with her and use them on the spot - not charge back to the bands?

Not to alarm anyone but when we checked into Pop Century for our arrival night there was a woman in there who had trouble for days with her bands and she was having to pay for her meals and be refunded by Disney. That's what she was in line to do when we got there. She was not happy!

Now we checked in to our resort and we never had a problem the whole week, thank goodness.
