Happy 4th of July everyone! America is officially 249 years old at midnight. Woo-hoo! ๐Ÿฅณ ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐Ÿ“œ ๐Ÿ–Š๐ŸŽ†

Well, technically, the nation's birthday was yesterday, July 2. That's when Congress formally voted for independence adopting the Lee Resolution. John Adams (erroneously) predicted in a letter to Abigail โ€œThe Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.โ€ (And now I'm singing Is Anybody There from 1776). He just didn't know we'd go with the date the the Declaration was ratified instead. I guess he'd be happy that I spent last night watching the fireworks for the opening day of Boston Harborfest.
