We are close to signing the dotted line to become a member of the DVC family but I'm curious to know how difficult it is to get something in Orlando within the shorter window. We are looking at HH as our home resort but not sure how hard it would be to get orlando within the shorter window. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'd pick HH if you are going to predominately vacation there AND are flexible about dates that you would visit WDW. There's no question that the 11 month window at your home resort can be essential when you want to travel during peak demand periods. If you're planning to visit WDW off-peak, you should be able to use the 7 month window without difficulty but may have to juggle your dates of stay somewhat.

As often stated, the DVC "rule of thumb" is to buy where you'll most frequently vacation.

hi: as stated, please "buy where you plan to stay". this cannot be stressed enough. if you really will be using this predominantly for wdw vacations, please choose one of the dvc properties on site. you'll have to decide what is best for you and your family.

Our home is VWL. I called in Aug. for anything available at VWL, OKW, or BWV. We were going in Dec(5-9). Nothing was available for our dates. I went ahead and booked 2 rooms at PO-FQ. When that was closed in Oct. the availablity of a 2 bedroom at OKW had opened up so we stayed there instead. It seems as though the availablity at WDW is ever-changing. Last May we were able to get a studio at VWL with 3 days notice.

The 7-month window works best when you can go to WDW during non-busy times. However, also be aware that the lowest seasons for WDW are not necessarily the lowest seasons for DVC. Low WDW seasons are actually a popular time for DVC members because of lower point costs.

If you want to go to HH as your primary resort and maybe go to WDW every 3rd or 4th year, then HH would be OK. But if you really want to go to Orlando a lot more often, then you'd probably be better off purchasing there. (VWL or a resale at OKW, BWV, or wait for BCV)

Remember though, if you purchase a WDW resort, then you've got the 7-month window at HH which will pretty much close you out of any summer time at HH.

If you have further questions, you can post back with specific timeframes that you would most likely want to go to HH, or WDW, and if WDW, which resort you would prefer. Members here can then give you more specifics on what those timeframes might be like in regards to 11-month or 7-month windows.

Our home resort is HH and we are very happy with that choice. We are a family of four, with two boys, 8 and 4. We just made reservations for HH for 7-1 to 7-4, which is very much prime time, and are following that up with six days at OKW. It is very difficult to get reservations for HH during the summer. The 11 month priority for owners is key. The OKW reservation was made at 7 months and there was ample availability.

We really enjoy HH and envision ourselves going there each year. The flexibility to go to WDW as well really sold us on DVC. We also don't travel during the fall or the spring break, which seem to be very high demand periods for the WDW resorts. So, it has worked out thus far. Good luck with your decision.
