What happens at MGM on July 4?

I'm thinking I heard somewhere that there are special fireworks at MGM on July 4. Is this right, or was I dreaming? If so, are they in addition to Fantasmic or instead of it?

I didn't hear of anything special last year at MGM or Epcot but the fireworks at MK were AWESOME!!! 360° from behind the castle out and around 7 Seas Lagoon!! I wouldn't miss it if I were you!

In celebration of America's birthday, the Studios have featured a firework extravaganza, which are the longest and most extravagant of the summer. In addtion, Flags are raised and bunting draped for Independence Day around the Studios. Also, in the past special showings of Fantasmic! and Sorcery in the Sky have occurred.

Sorcery in the Sky is THE best fireworks show at WDW (in my opinion) and I miss it so much now that they rarely show it

"Sorcery in the Sky"...that's what I was thinking of! Did they have it last year? Do you think they might have it this year? Would it be as crowded as the MK fireworks?

Nope...MK is always more crowded than anything at MGM.

If you experience them from the parking lot, then yes. Otherwise, short of an hour or two difference in showtimes, nope.

Yes, they had Sorcery in the Sky last year. I hear the show was different - and better- before they put up the big-A hat, though. The entire park was not very crowded last year. Everybody must have been over at MK.

This year I'm going to Epcot.

If you are an expert (and depending on the showtimes) you can see all three fireworks shows, but it's definitely tough to do and you need to know some shortcuts. Seeing two shows, i.e. Magic Kingdom first and then Sorcery should be possible if they are spread out about an hour or so, you watch the MK show from the Poly and head for your car immediately after it concludes, getting out of the parking lot before the crowds from the park arrive.
