What Happened to The Haunted Mansion?

I think I hate the queue more that the trees. If it wasn't for the covers queue I could have gotten a better pic that that. In my head I just picture walking up to a haunted house I imagine it more ominous from a distance maybe hidden though the trees but as you get closer it's slowly revealed. I don't get the effect. I feel the same way with beasts castle, the forced perspective doesn't work for me, I just see a tiny castle.

Thank you! I am so disappointed with the forced perspective, I don't think it works well as you enter. A real shame and waste of opportunity. Thankfully it looks amazing inside.

I think the original pictures are interesting, but the mansion doesn't look spooky at all. It looks like a pretty cool house in an exclusive neighborhood. The trees are obviously overgrown in the newer photos, and I think they add an air of eeriness. And thank goodness for the overgrown trees on the side of the building so that you can't see the warehouse anymore!

I agree with you on the Beast's castle. It's far too small and too close for the illusion to work. If it were far away, there would be an atmospheric haze between you and the castle. I think it's fine for kids, but if they were hoping for a Mainstreet or Cinderella Castle type of forced perspective that most wouldn't be aware of, then they missed the mark by a mile.

I think I get the OP's original point, which is that you can't really see the Haunted Mansion when you go to ride the Haunted Mansion. I have been on that ride a hundred times, and I know I couldn't have identified that exterior photo without context. Between the location of the queue, the cover over the queue, the trees, and how the house is situated, the mansion really is never visible - or it may be visible if you are looking for it, but it isn't noticeable.

Now, the Disneyland Haunted Mansion I could easily describe. But I think the exteriors in California are better in general (Pirates, Small World, actually all of Fantasyland).

Geez, everyone keeps talking about the trees! I know I mentioned trimming the trees but that wasn't even my point. I just ment you can't even see the house, even if the trees weren't there the placement is horrible to see it. You can't even get a decent photo of the house front door view. I'm in the minority.

I understand your point! I don't agree, but I understand what you are saying. I actually kind of like that you can barely see the house anymore. To me, it builds on the Haunted Mansion idea. I think of a haunted house being hidden away, in the dark part of town that no one really goes to, not seen except by the brave few who venture there. So I like that the house isn't highly visible at WDW, and I love that some people are saying here that they wouldn't have been able to name the structure from your photos. I feel like that fits perfectly with the theme!
