My first trip was in 1989 when I was 7 years old. Then was when if you went in September there were NO lines, we probably just walked on. September is when we went ever other year through the 90's till maybe 1998 then I didn't go again till 2004, not sure when the queue went in. I always trip planned and went in off season so any attraction over 10-15 mins was skipped or got paper fast-passes (R.I.P.). But year the queue shade is a "necessary evil" I guess lol I've always just rushed on and last time I actually slowed down and took in the magic, I loved getting this pic, although "obstructed" be that a positive or negative by your perspective. Were you around before they covered the queue? Fully exposed to the elements, it could be absolutely miserable when the line got long. I'll take sun protection over a photo op any day.
I know they have special events in the HM, not sure if the actual house or not. I would love to do that.I don't mind the trees at all, but the covered queue line really does. I have seen pics before and it was nice to see the house from other areas of the park. Now, unless you are getting in line, you can't see the Mansion . I really wished they had pushed that covered line back or something. I am sure even if it was against the building they could have done something with it, like make it seems that you are walking up a fenced path or something.
Related question, anyone ever get behind the scenes of the ride? It looks like there is no part of the ride that actually goes through the mansion part, is that correct? Is there anything in the mansion?
Here's another old one.

This doesn't look creepy at all to me. I like the trees better for effect. Here's another old one.

Good thing the actual ride building is covered...

I was looking at old pictures of the exterior of the HM compared to a picture I took on my last trip and it's disappointing how obstructed the view is now. Compare the first photo from 1975 below that I found online to the second that I took last October.

Why don't they trim those trees down and have it more visible from the queue and Liberty Square?
Entrance to entrance is a longer walk.Wow. I had no idea HM was that close to iasw. It feel like a pretty decent walk between them.

Geez, everyone keeps talking about the trees! I know I mentioned trimming the trees but that wasn't even my point. I just ment you can't even see the house, even if the trees weren't there the placement is horrible to see it. You can't even get a decent photo of the house front door view. I'm in the minority.
That's my point, I wonder how many people don't even realize there is the house facade. My kids age 6 and 11 who have been to WDW many times and both LOVE the HM saw the pic I took and I had them guess what the house was and neither one could guess. Granted they're young but I was very surprised they didn't know. Honestly before I took this pic last year if someone showed me this house out of context I probably wouldn't have guessed it right away.I don't know if it's the trees or just bad placement but as it is now you can't really see the mansion at all. There's nothing spooky about it from the outside at all. I never knew there was actually a facade of a house.
