What Frugal Action Did You Take Today!?

Didn't go anywhere today...besides church. saved money on gas, didn't buy anything, went through closets to get ready for a rummage sale (not just a 'saved money' but a money maker!!!)

Ds & I invited my parents over for dinner. Used the leftover penne noodles from last night and sauce along with the cooking creme in frig that needed to be used. Went to the grocery store for OJ, italian cheese and 1/2lb gr. turkey. Ended up putting back 2 salad dressings, frozen meal for 2, gr peppers, cucumber! I did add a lb of ham to the mix. I did need it. That is what ds eats for lunch and I had totally forgotten I didn't have any. I did buy the one on sale and only the 6 slices that I needed. Not super frugal by some standards, but for me I rocked it! Normally, I would have ordered something in for dinner or bought all new stuff to cook.

On another note. I have been making pizza every Friday night for about 16 years. We have one son who is grown and moved out. He and his girlfriend come every Friday for pizza night. We play board games or watch movies. It's a nice way to stay connected.

If anyone wants to know how to make the pizza let me know and I will post it for you. I have tought my sister and her daughter even my son can make it. It is not hard but it is cheap.

I make homemade pizza all the time too. I would love your sauce recipe. I'm always looking for a good sauce. !

THAT is a GREAT tradition!! I love it! And I'd love to see your recipe.

I use my semi-homemade sauce that is leftover from spaghetti for my pizza sauce. But I'd love a good dough recipe. My family is happy with the just add water dough, is it Martha White?

I don't know, what do you use?

thank you for popcorn bowl post!! I never knew you could microwave popcorn kernels. I have been using a pot on the stove and this would be so much more convenient!:worship:

I saw the Michaels had a sale going on for there candles. Candles that were $5.99 was on sale for 3 for $10. On top of that they had a 30% of your entire candle purchase so i bought a few small ones for a dollar to see if I would like them or not. the total was 18 something and I walked out spending 13 something which included 4 small candles, 3 large candles and 4 silk florwer stems (normally 1.99 on sale for .79)

Ways the candle makes my life eaiser
1. I have a canopy bed so the over head light is useless for me. I usually play on my laptop in bed so it's not that i have to have a light on to read but once i shut it my room is pitch black. the candle is saving me energy and making my room smell good.
1.5 candle by my bed is called 'Caribbean Escape' and the smell of it remind me of pineapple dole whip so my room is like a mini disney vacation every time I go in there!:goodvibes
2. Since I need things for the holidays I picked up some lovely scents to give away for easter presents. I was bound to spend money anyways so I might as well have done it cheap!

We love tomato soup around here and campbell's is getting so expensive in stores. I was in walmart not to long ago and picked up their housebrand. It is yummy and $.20 cheaper per can.

I've never been to Aldi's but I think I'm going to stop there this week. This will be my budget contribution for this week. :)

Please bring me up to speed on the good, bad and ugly...I know cash or debit card only and bring your own bags and pack myself. How about their products what's good what's to be avoided?

I love Aldi's. I would just warn you to check produce carefully. Their produce is really good when it is fresh but it has a tendency to go fast.

One item we did not care for are their boxed mashed potaotes, no flavor at all. Also their frozen meals are not that great, like tv dinners.

We love their frozen tilapia, cheese is a great price, milk is always cheaper, and a ton of others I can't think of.

But the great thing about aldi's is that they have a 100% money back gaurentee if you do not like on of their products.

I found a recipe for homemade tomato soup that was super simple. I'll have to find it and post it. I remember it was cans of diced tomatoes and some herbs and spices. Just blend it together and heat and serve. It was the best tomato soup I've ever had. I did add a little milk to it even though the recipe didn't call for it.

I cut up some coupons from a Wholesale grocery club (COSCO) and did my once a month grocery food shopping. When I got there I only used the coupons that I figured were actually a good deal.

I would love the recipe. I always add at least half a can of milk to tomato soup. I find it helps cut down on the acidity

Lean ground round is getting really expensive. Yesterday I bought bottom round roasts for $1.99/lb. Tonight hubby and I ground them up and packaged them for the freezer to use in chili, spaghetti, etc. :)

I forgot to take something out of the freezer for dinner today. But instead of us eating out, I stopped at the grocery store on the way home and got something to make for dinner. And in my grocery store trip, I picked up groceries to last us until the end of the week, as we unexpectedly are having DSS's with us starting tomorrow for the remainder of the week.

So for the cost of one dinner out, I got groceries to last us until Saturday :yay:

I've been doing a good job of bringing my lunch lately.

Last week I bought the store brand bread instead of DD's favorite for sandwiches and grilled cheese ($1 vs $3.89). It was ok but I won't do it often. To use it up, I made DH french toast on sunday morning. Since there was extra batter, I made a few slices extra and set them aside.

I used the leftover french toast slices and made a monte cristo sandwich for DH for lunch. I used up the leftover ham & turkey from last weeks cold cuts and grilled it on the griddle so it wasn't soggy. He loved it. I also made DD#2 a grilled cheese with turkey bacon to use up the rest of that loaf of bread since dd#1's fav bread (pepperidge farm's farmhouse) is on sale BOGO this week. Hopefully it will freeze well- I also have a coupon so will try to freeze a couple of loaves!

Last night was a busy night for us with just over an hour between school and evening activities. On top of that I had a bad cold so my first inclination was to just order pizza. But, I got my oldest to help and we ended up making fish sticks, mac&cheese, and cauliflower from stuff we had on hand. It was a very kid friendly meal and we managed to eat and get on with the night without too much stress. Plus I saved the $25 I would have spent for pizza.

I forgot to replenish my office stash of oatmeal packets for breakfast, and I was considering getting carry-out from the little diner by our office, but I decided to just make a breakfast out of my snacks at work - so I had a cup of yogurt and a banana and called it good.

Have never had an issue freezing bread , I just used the last of 6 loaves I had frozen and no one has our bread on sale ughhhh and unfortunately I very rarely find coupons for nature's own. We eat alot of bread , DS and I both eat two slices with PB for breakfast every day . I have tried other brands , but just can't do it lol.
