What exactly is TIW ?

Tip is not added at counter service places that accept it. You also save the tax on the discounted 20%.

I love TiW. It works so much better for me than DDP for me. I can eat what ever I want rather than what's covered on DDP.

TiW members also get offer special events. They are pricey but sound so cool. I've never had the chance to attend any. They've had one at The Great Movie Ride that sounds so fun!

Are UK wait staff paid a base wage higher than average US wait staff are paid? If so, then less of their income would necessarily have to come from tips.

I was wondering the same thing I know what wait staff gets paid here and thats why ALWAYS tip well

Now this is the kind of answer that helps my decision, I had no idea about any of this ! Do you get some kind of mailing to tell you of upcoming events like Mickey Monitor with AP or do you just keep checking somewhere?

And one from May......

:cool1: Now THIS kind of thing and the previous posts to ME is worth every penny of the cost of the TIW, new & different experiences I can't believe how many things I have missed not asking about this sooner :sad2: crazy thing is I have seen this set up at Fantasmic! & they do a beautiful job but always thought a private party like a company or something

so where do you buy the TIW ? any guest relation window ? thanks for all the help

The TiW can be purchased by Florida Residents, DVC Members, and Annual Passholders. It gives a 20% discount on food and beverages (including alcoholic) at most tables service and some quick services location on WDW for up to ten people at a time. When you purchase it, the card is valid for the remainder of the current month plus 13 full months.

Here is a working example, using $100.00 as the original bill to make the math show up easily. Note this is for Table Service. At Counter Service there is no gratuity added.

100.00 - Original Menu Amount
*20.00 - Discount
*80.00 - Subtotal
*18.00 - Gratuity Added based on $100
**5.20 - Sales Tax on $80
103.20 - Final amount charged, takes into consideration discount, gratuity and tax.

Without TiW Discount (and still figuring 18% Gratuity)

100.00 - Original Menu Amount
*18.00 - Gratuity
**6.50 - Sales Tax on $100
124.50 - Total

$21.30 - Savings using TiW Card.

(Note - At Victoria and Albert's the added gratuity is 20% instead of 18%.)
* Ignore the asterisks; they are there only so the columns/numbers line up properly.

For the complete list of locations and the rules, go to www.tablesinwonderland.com which is the Official Disney site.

Based on the current pricing, the following is the break-even point for menu pricing (assuming you will routinely give an 18% tip):
AP Holder or DVC Member ($100) is $469.48
Resident (not AP holder) ($125) is $586.85
Both of the above take into consideration that the Sales Tax is also discounted.

Also it is for up to 10 guests so if you ever anticipate a group going it helps. Took a group of 8 before a cruise for an awesome dinner and in the same "year" traveled there for a week with a group of 10. That alone we broke even.

Oh believe me ever since all the helpful posts I am planning/calculating like a fiend :) not even counting the extra parties & experiences to look forward to but right now between July & Dec we already had 7 TS ADRs booked all if not most on the list So glad I asked

Are UK wait staff paid a base wage higher than average US wait staff are paid?

Yep.

And so people know, servers in WA don't have a "server minimum" either. Just normal minimum. When I was a server the tips weren't AS big a deal because we were making a normal wage anyway.

We get the TIW card at AP or DVC rate, and despite having just 3 people, we make the discount "back" inside of one trip. That's 3 vegetarians, one of whom is a lighter eater (now), another who is a lighter eater but more than the other one, and one of whom is a growing, active, HUNGRY boy who needs constant refills of food. :) Maybe one TS per day. Very infrequent alcohol purchases. And still, we make it to the pure discount level inside one trip.

Thanks Molly :wave2: more great reviews from a person a kind of know :)
just can't believe I never looked into this.....me..such a self-proclaimed WDW "expert" :lmao: Love The Dis thats for sure !

Ruthie...

and good night all or afternoon or moning to the rest of the world :goodvibes

In the UK it's unheard of to tip that high. It's not customary and is only given when service and food is both excellent and then no more than 10%TOPS I would say, I personally find it really odd to account for it as its not a cost we usually have here! Xx

It goes back to the age old saying "When in Rome do as the Romans do". Holds true here too
