What exactly is the Captain's Gala?

Does the Captain visit the restaurants on this night? What does this theme mean? It is the semi formal night, correct? We were thinking of going to Palo on this night. Would that be a mistake?

The Captain's Gala night is when the Captain is available in the area in front of the Walt Disney Theatre for photos. Complimentary drinks are brought around on trays in the atrium. We have done Palo on this night. I believe it is on the semi-formal night.

Thanks again, MJ! I think that is the night that we will go to Palo since we can still meet the Captain too. I will check out a Navigator for that night and find out approximately when the Captain will be by the Theater. Then we can make our Palo reservations for a different time.
