What do you think...re: tattoo ideas UPDATED again 7/10 I DID IT!!!

Funny story:

About eight or nine months ago, I was helping a customer at my store and he had an incredible tattoo of two children on his arm. As I had seen the one little boy with him, I commented on how the artist was very gifted-that the tattoo looked just like the child. Then I said "gee, it looks as if you went and had Kat Von D do it."

He turns around a little, and shows me her initials on the bottom of the tattoo. He flew out to LA (from Tampa) just so she could do it at Corey's old shop. He said they were knocking back tequila the whole time (7 hours). This was before everything was known about LA Ink happening, so he told me that, too.

All I can say about it is wow. It was about 4x5 and had such detail. I am not surprised that it took 7 hours to do, as there was so much shading within it.

a good friend of mine is going to have his done by her (but not on her show). he wants a memorial piece for his mom and he loved her work, he contacted her and she told him that when he wants it, she'll do it. i can't wait to see it. she's a fantastic artist.

Can anyone recommend a good place in Orlando to go to?

I love all the pictures of the tattoos! Someday, maybe I'll get the guts to do it. DH just got his first one. He was going to get one very similar to CathrynRose's but in blue. Then he found the one he ended up with and it fit him perfectly. Here is a pic. (Oh, and he is a Marketing Manager, if we are keeping track;) )

(Sorry the pic is kind of weird, I took it at an angle)

That is one of the best Mickey tattoos I've ever seen! Where did he find that design?

For those who have hip tats, is that a good place pain wise? I had thought about doing it there. I just want the sorcerer hat I think.

didn't really hurt me except for when he went close to my bone, which felt a little weird. mine is very low set though, at the hair line down there. i think if you went higher up it would be less painful, because it's more fatty.

If the higher fat content helps-I'm in GREAT shape!! :lmao:

I don't recall exactly. I know he Googled "Mickey Mouse Images" repeatedly over several months before coming up with that. When he gets home I'll ask him if he still has the link.

haha. i've been told that muscle hurts the most (ie. back of calf and shoulder). my friend had her foot tattoo recolored the same time i got mine done and i saw this really painful look on her face. her tattoo was right on top of her bone on the top of her foot. i told her to remind me never to get one there.

i'm not looking forward to getting that wrist one i want, since it's all bone there too. eeek!

OP I love your tatoo, if I werent such a chicken I would have my own "tramp stamp".

The hip wasn't bad compared to the back or ankle. :scared:

This was done on my calf and there was a little bit of discomfort around the very top but that was it.

mine isnt disney related, more like disney inspired... I havent seen a shooting star (or any star quite honestly) since moving to Miami so I got this tattoo so that I can ALWAYS have a star to wish upon. It is on the back of my right shoulder.

ETA: I also want to get a sparrow on the top of my foot by my toes...just scared of how much it will hurt!

Oh shizzy, the back of the ankle hurts like a mug....the guy that did my tattoo said "Now when it gets to the back of the ankle it will be a little sore" and then the needle touched my ankle and I almost flew over the back of the chair...luckily my mom was there holding me in the chair:rotfl:

Ok, now for the next important question. How much do these things cost? I'm not looking for anything large or ornate.

Mine was only $80, but my brother is friends with the guy. He said it NORMALLY would have been closer to $150. Plus don't forget to tip them!

Totally depends on where you go. A lot of tattoo shops have a minimum charge that they start at, and up from there. My most recent tattoo, a simple outline of California with a blue star representing my hometown (about 3-4 inches long, at the top of my spine), cost me $60 ($80 with tip). That was that particular shop's minimum charge, even though the work took literally 2 minutes.

I heard you can't swim after you have one. I swim 3-5 days a week, so that's a big issue for me. How long would I have to stay out of the pool?
