As I see it, it's not that it is replacing EMH, it is taking away two other days of the week to hit rope drop on non-EMH days. Those are the best days to get good rides in. Much more limiting. It devalues a regular ticket for sure.

that is true. it is making less opportunities available to get there at rope drop and not have a crowd already in the park. but look at it this way: if you were staying on site, you could just get to the park super early at the beginning of EMH and treat this as your rope drop. if you were not staying on site, then this would be treated like an EMH day that you could not participate in. It is still possible to get to the park first thing, it might just be a couple hours earlier than planned. obviously its all annoying but it is feasible to work around. the hard part is if you have dining reservations already made for prepark opening on these ticketed event days.

There is no predicting anymore. Any crowd calendars are guesswork now. Even Disney is not prepared.

Which is strange, because I figured as they had more data, more pre bookings, and more people locked in with FP+, they would have a better idea of crowd numbers.

Actually I think they do. This has allowed them to schedule more frugally resulting in layoffs and more park hours that feel like capacity.

So I think Disney has a real good idea of crowds. Maybe too good of an idea.

I understand it can still be done. But my options have been whittled down with this if they maintain it.

I honestly thought this was some sort of leftover April Fool's joke when I read it. This is a terrible, idea. I hope they very quickly abandon the early am and late night paid events. It complicates everything and has reached a point of absolutely ridiculous money-grab. Everything's already expensive, we get that, but this is just a really awful plan to increase revenue.

Good friend is CM. They were completely unprepared for crowds yesterday. CMs were told they would be working longer day after they arrived at work. Her words "Disney was not prepared for today's crowds". Even at noon the bag check lines were crazy at the parks looking more like rope drop.

We have to remember MOST guests are not staying on property so Disney has more difficulty gauging them if they don't book anything. Yes, many book FP+ but you would be shocked how many show up without any. DD worked at Soarin' and she said LOTS walk up to the line and don't even know what FP+ is. Sure if you book at WDW resort they give you lots of info to plan and set things up, but if you book offsite odds are unless you are proactive, the most you might have done is buy tickets but know nothing of MDE etc.

Yes, they have a baseline but the constant increase in crowds in Orlando has made it difficult.

I'd do it. It's only 2 of us, so that minimizes the overall cost. My son once rode 7DMT seven times in a row after a rain storm cleared out the park. He still talks about it. I'd love to give him the chance to do that again.

When do these go on sale?

It's a good thing it's only on select Tuesdays and Saturdays

One of those "select Saturday's" is our departure day and we have an 8:10 ADR at CP. While I don't expect to be let in rides early, I was hoping to have a jump on the RD crowd since we have to be out of the park by 1:00.
Trying to talk our girls into dropping CP and doing the Marceline to Magic Kingdom tour.

For two people the financial blow is definitely lessened. The thing I don't understand is, there is no fast pass for this event correct? If it's a success and many decide to do it, could it still result in a 40 minute wait for 7DMT? If that's the case, what makes this "special"?

Maybe I don't have all the info but I am having a hard time understanding the benefit.

i think the only "special" part about this is going to be extra money Disney gets. There are no fast passes during this special event. They are not disclosing how many tickets will be sold. For all we know, the number of tickets sold for these 3 rides could end up equaling a 45 minute wait at 7DMT, meaning you spend your whole time in line. for one ride.

but hey. you get some eggs and juice so that TOTALLY makes it worth it hahah

Well the fact that there's breakfast involved does limit the number that they can realistically allow. How many can they feed in an hour? Probably a lot less than the the thousands they will probably sell for the evening event. Or so I hope since my Sat departure day is now an EMM day.

I don't foresee Disney turning money down for this event. They will feed as many that will pay. Remember breakfast is a couple hours later when everything is up and running. If they get 1,000 people in line for 3 rides, they will make 1,000 hot pockets with juice for them 3 hours later. That part shouldn't be hard.

We are just over 3 weeks out now and did our planning all at the 180 & 90 day mark, including ADR's and FP in MK for one of these scheduled Tuesdays. I'm not going to lie. I'm not happy, at all. We would not have planned to do MK this day if we had known, but it's way too late to try to change our schedule now. So, instead of dwelling on it, I guess we'll just have to make the best of it! We'll still enjoy our pre-opening ADR and head straight to Frontierland as soon as we are allowed. I can only hope that they don't sell too many of these tickets so my plans work out. If not, I guess we'll just roll with it and have fun, anyway.

Yeah, I feel bad for people who have their plans already laid out and can't change, especially those pre-parking opening breakfast. I'm still 187 days out so I can still adjust and work around it.

But knowing Disney, probably more fee paying "magic" events will be added by the time my holiday time comes around :)

Just another sign of the times...you can't buy concert tickets from the venue anymore; scalpers (or TM) scoop them up and sell them on the aftermarket for hundreds more. You want to bring a bag with you on the plane? Pay up...You want to have low crowds in the morning at Disney, pay twice the price of a normal ticket. If they can make a buck off of it, they will sell it because that's the only thing that matters.

It makes it nice for rich people, because they can afford it, but who cares about the regular folk anymore. This seems like something only stupidly rich (or just stupid?) people would pay for because it's a total rip-off. All this does is mess with all of us who are well prepared for our trips.

End rant >:(:crazy2:

Understood - but whether Disney needs, or just wants, to increase revenue - what would be a good plan?
This is optional, and while it interferes with some guests' plans, it's another way for Disney to bring in more money without instantly doubling costs on tickets for all guests.

I think in order to cater for the attending guests in that last hour, the numbers will have to be pretty limited.

Touring Plans reckon that 7DMT loads 100 people every 5 minutes. Peter was guessing at a cap around 200 people on the podcast last week in order to make the catering work... and then if everyone was on riding 7DMT, that's not a 40 minute wait... and in that case, I can understand the appeal.

We probably won't do it, but if I was solo in the park? Yeah, I'd be tempted!
