What types of things do you buy at dollar stores (besides food, I have no interest in buying food there).

I get gift bags normally and today I also bought some dish soap. What types of things are of decent quality? I get skeeved out by many dollar stores because they smell weird but the one in our town is very nice, clean, and doesn't smell :)

Oh I have also gotten Christmas tins and other holiday items, but beyond that I don't venture.

I was just discussing the dollar stores the other day and how most of them rarely have things that cost a 1.00. We ran out of trash bags at our camper and so DH ran to the dollar store and bought trash bags and they were awful. We have a very small amount of garbage when we are at our camper and the bags still broke. Overall I can get better deals at other stores and better quality so I buy NOTHING at the dollar store.

There are different kinds of dollar stores. We shop at Dollar Tree where everything in the store is a dollar. Other stores have things that are varied in prices and not as good of a deal.

I shop at the dollar store before I hit the regular stores for my monthly shopping. We have tried some things there that I would not buy again (foil rips very easily for example) but if we have tried a food product and like it, I have no problem buying it there.

It is a must for goodie bags for parties and gift bags, gift cards, etc.

I actually buy some food at ours (Dollar Tree). They have name brand things sometimes (Bugles, TGIFridays chips). I also buy their Freshley's brand Swiss Cake Rolls and name brand candy. Do you sense a junk food theme?

I also buy the Reynold's wrappers (precut foil sheets for baked potatoes or sandwiches). I buy "tupperware" and lots of glass items for crafting and decorating. I don't buy their gift bags as often because I think they come apart really easily. I buy tissue paper and gift boxes, mylar balloons.

I always buy my gift bags there, and I also buy the cards for birthday parties DD has to go to.

I've bought sponges there, name brand pretzels, ziplock containers.

My best buy from there were the favors for DD 4th birthday party. I bought the tootsie roll banks (there for the holidays) and put them in celophane bags (also from the dollar store) with some lollypops (also bought at the dollar store) Total favor price was about $1.25 each child.:thumbsup2

I buy a lot at the Dollar Tree (everything is $1 where I live). I never buy food, cleaning supplies, makeup, etc because I'm pretty picky about those items.

During the holidays, on vacation and preparing and freezing extra meals I use aluminum pans. They have lasagna pans for 2/$1 and they are pretty good quality. They also have good prices on paper plates, napkins, table cloths and plastic ware. I buy all of my plastic ware at the $1 store!

I'm class mom for my son's preschool class and I give a favor for every party. I buy a lot of stickers, bubbles, etc. They also have great prices on basket filler, gift bags, wrapping paper, favor boxes, etc. Last St. Patrick's Day I bought several 8 packs of green and white polka dot favor boxes (chinese takeout style, with a white handle but they were only 2" tall) and filled them with Rolos for little pots of gold. That's what my son gave to his friends at school. This year they have a 5 pack of mini green hats for $1 and I'm going to fill them with chocolate coins I got on clearance after Christmas at Aldi!

They also had some amazing pirate dress up sets. I bought 2 for my son to play with. They are so great that I bought a case online and we are giving them as favors at his birthday party next month.

We also buy frames from there when we give pictures as gifts to our parents and grandparents. Some of them have awful quality but there are always some pretty great frames.

Mostly kids art supplies like Pom poms google eyes, paper sacks and plates for crafts, coloring books, flash cards, glitter glue, that sort of stuff. I also buy gift wrap, bags, ribbon, and cards. The only food I ever buy is movie theater candy because its loads cheaper and my son can have a treat at the movies without me feeling robbed.

I buy glow sticks, party favor bubbles & balloons. I really don't need a lot of cheap Chinese junk in my house. Also, given some Chinese manufacturer's complete disregard for safety, rules and regulations (poisoned pet food, high levels of lead in toys and other items, contaminated toothpaste, etc), I don't think I would really trust much available for purchase at the Dollar Store.

Dollar Tree is the best around here, and still a true dollar store.

Same items as lots of PPs...gift bags, tissue paper, aluminum(disposable) pans with lids, stickers, name brand candy, birthday/party decorations like banners and streamers, wrapping paper.

Also ziplock bags and kids books. Ours has a great selection of baby board books. Just picked up 6 sesame street books for each grandbaby.

At garage sale time I can get price stickers there, and I also buy the biggest packs of batteries I can find there to put in toys we are selling at the garage sale.

wrapping paper and such, helium balloons, coloring books

Our Dollar Tree has been having Colgate Gel Toothpaste with a sell by date of October 2014 or something like that. And now you can use coupons so sometimes I can get it for 25 cents each. They also have been having Colgate or other name brand toothbrushes. I'm weird about them so I don't buy the off brand ones.

Pregnancy test.

This was needed after our Disneyland trip to celebrate our oldest daughter's graduation from high school.

The cheapskate in me almost died when I saw how much the pharmacy wanted for a pregnancy test. I remembered there were tests at the checkout at Dollar Tree. So, at one day late the $1 test confirmed that I had a SURPRISE headed my way in nine months.

When I went to the doctor I told them the home test had "only" been a dollar store test and my doctor laughed and said they were no more prone to false positives than the most expensive urine tests. He said they might not be as sensitive as some, and as such might give a false negative if taken too early, but the positives were reliable.

He then also said that in almost every case of a "false positive" pregnancy test there had been a pregnancy, but that an early miscarriage had taken place.

The mylar balloons are great. Our store wil also refill ballooons, so some of our Birthday balloons have had a long and productive life.

I also buy hardback books at our Dollar Store. Some great books came to our house that way!

As to food items my Dollar Store carries cookies from Canada and the U.S. And I will buy those, but not food items from elsewhere.

At the Dollar Tree store? It's about 50/50 on what I will buy there and what I won't. There isn't much of the food or cleaning supplies I'll buy there... but hairbows, make up, toys, gift bags, party supplies... yes!!!
At the Dollar General? Just about anything. They have a lot of name brand products and sometimes it is cheaper than even Walmart! Plus you get that $5 off coupon on Saturdays!

Absolutely nothing. It has probably been a year since I stepped foot in a Dollar Tree and the prices at those other places is more than the Commissary, so I don't even bother.

Gift bags and treat bags, and as room mom for both kids this year, I hit dollar tree up for favors and plates/cups/napkins for class parties. Otherwise I don't really go there much.

Dollar stores:
Gift bags, tissue paper, cards

Thank you cards, glow sticks, fillable goodie bags for birthday parties

helium filled balloons

playing cards, yo-yos, bags of marbles

florists foam (good for teaching little ones how to use a knife), plastic knives

craft stuff--pompoms, felt projects, foam crafts, construction paper, etc Sold at Michael's and Walmart, but cheaper there (same brand)

some school supplies---ours carries sharpies, highlighters, post-its (brand names, not generic); flash cards, coloring books, puzzle books

brand name candy (check dates) and occasionally a soda if I'm thirsty

No food or houseware products.

I get lots at our Dollar Tree. Organizing stuff, Lysol cleaner, some food (USA and Canadian), some books, party supplies, lint brushes, etc. Oh, and posterboard! They had a Bertoli-style mini pizza crust at our Dollar Tree that I tried and it was really good. Made for a yummy quick homemade pizza one day!

I'm a teacher so I buy a lot of my posters, hanging decorations, wall decorations, and cute extras at Dollar Tree. They change the stuff out every few months so I always check it out to see what's new.

I shop Dollar General for laundry soap. I like the powdered Purex or Dreft brand that they frequently carry them for under $3.00 depending on the size. I think it works better than the Tides or other big brands either liquid or powder.

I love to get balloons there and surprise DGD. They also have great gift bags and small silly presents like the solar flower that is still a big hit.:goodvibes
