What do you purchase at Dollar Stores?

Aside from other things mentioned already I found some great smaller size plastic storage bins at mine. I bought three different sizes and reorganized my kitchen. Really helped for keeping things like sprinkles and cake decorating items Manageable.

When I see someone ask about "dollar" stores I think of Dollar Tree where everything is $1.00, not Family Dollar and Dollar General, which have all prices. That being said, I find that our Dollar Tree often has name brand products. I have no problem with buying them.

In reference to the poster who mentioned the Dollar store toothpaste. It's an off brand and you do need to be careful about buying that. It's made in china and may contain unknown/hazardous ingreditents. I would never worry about a brand like Colgate, the issues don't apply with them. If they ever did you can bet we'd hear about it.

Name brand companies often make products for dollar stores. They are usually packaged differently and may be smaller in size than the products you get at big box stores, but they are exactly the name in quality.

I also buy their Freshley's brand Swiss Cake Rolls and name brand candy.

Mrs Freshley's is not a dollar store brand. It's a national brand that is sold in big box stores that just happens to be found in some dollar stores too.

Like any other products, it's a matter of figuring out which products are good and which are not. I don't like Dollar Trees garbage bags, too thin and not well made. But I love their foil pans, tissue paper and plastic containers. I often find name brand foods both in the frozen section and shelf stable products.

(fake) tupperware ( have 2 diff. sizes)
dish soap, hand soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, book lights, pencils, tape, paper, picture frames, hair bands, art supplies, acne face wash(yay!),jamaican beef patties (freezer section),silly summer toys, gloves, gifting supplies, scrapbook stuff, wedding decorations, party supplies, lots and lots of stuff! What CAN'T you get at the Dollar Tree?:rotfl: kidding, they don't sell everything...:rotfl2:

Dollar Tree, that is....and all the supplies I buy are name brand..... even the candy!

There was a Dollar Tree opposite our condo, and we brought things such as toilet roll, butterfinger bars and drinks there.

Foil pans. Great for making a cake to send to work with my DH.
Gift basket bags 2/$1
Coloring books for the Nieces
Renuzit airfreshers

Mostly paper products, gift wrap/bags, craft stuff for the kids.
Our dollar store is clean, well stocked and very organized. We do get chocloate bars or candy and gum there and have never had a problem with any of it.

Oh and I love the dollar store LARGE freezer bags. Use them to pack toiletries and such for trips. I also place my sons agenda and homework in them to place in his backpack. In the winter the backpacks always get wet or something spills from their lunch. The large plastic bags keep the paper things dry.

I have never been to Dollar Tree. I know we have one over by Walmart but I get what I need from Walmart & Kroger. I don't have little kids (mine are all tweens and teens) so I don't have to buy school treats or party favors.

We have a Dollar General I have went into a handful of times because I ran out of something (foil, Tide, DD's girl products) in case of emergency.

But as far as going there on purpose in search of things to buy, I don't do that.

From Dollar Tree...sunglasses, socks for DD, decor for holidays, bubbles, kitchen utensils (metal ice cream scoop, Betty Crocker spoons...) I don't usually purchase cleaning supplies unless it's the brand name since some of the others are watered down store brands. I made the mistake of that at Kroger and other stores so I learned my lesson on dish soap. Oh! Photo frames for the kids' school pics.

Our store is very nicely kept so we stop in every other week.

Dollar General, Family Dollar and Fred's Super Dollar...bits of this and that. If I can't find it there and I can't find it at Big Lots...well, we probably just didn't need it.

I hit our Dollar Tree at least once a week. I get name brand snacks and candy(love the Utz White Cheddar popcorn!), but usually steer clear if I don't recognize the name. I also get name brand health and beauty items--ours carries Speedstick and Suave deodorant, Suave and White Rain hair products, White Rain body wash and items like cosmetic rounds. I have found foundation and face powder there as well. I get cards, gift bags, tissue paper, party favors, books, school supplies, hair bands, etc. I have also bought Snuggle fabric softener, Renuzit plug ins, **** and Span cleaner, garbage bags, ziplocs, foil pans, nail clippers, scissors--basically just about everything.

Our dollar Tree has major name brand bread, and I kid you not, it is as fresh as I get from our local grocery store, but at half the price. :thumbsup2 Pretty smart of them since I never leave with just bread. :rotfl2:

I don't buy a lot of food but I will buy the name brand chips and junk food when I see it. The Stars and Stripes Ginger Ale is ok too.

I buy a lot of reading glasses, cleaning gloves, sponge scrubber stuff. Extra Large zipper bags for traveling and storage. Gift bags, tissue, cards, frozen green beans for the dog (dog diet snack-lol) and frozen broccoli and carrots for the bird. (NEVER buy dog food, treats or bowls from China!!! ) I mostly buy only Kong brand toys from the pet store, but one of my dogs favorite toys is a big inflated kids ball from the dollar store.

My store will occasionally get 'As seen on TV stuff." I paid 12.00 at Fry's for a set of those bottle caps for can drinks, and 1.00 for a 2nd set the next year from the Dollar Tree.

I also purchase stuff for my Disney trips like mini LED flashlights, night lights/ bulbs, glow sticks, rain ponchos, hand sanitizer, sunglasses, tape, & drink mixes . For my last Disney trip at Christmas, I even bought soft fleece gloves and a scarf.

I have a lot of fun at the Dollar tree. :rotfl2:

Dollar Tree only - I buy tissues, organizing bins and storage containers, craft and stationery supplies for my kids, holiday decorations, cleaning products, air fresheners, glow sticks and Blue Bunny ice cream sandwiches. :goodvibes

Dollar Tree - Cards, night light bulbs, mop bucket (cheapie, but works for touch ups) foil pans, Cut-Rite Wax Paper, long propane lighters (for candles), Mean Green cleaner, liquid baby powder (for me, not baby) and other odds and ends, but nothing edible (use coupons/sales for name brands elsewhere).

It did ... and to Colgate specifically. From the link I posted on the first page:

[UPDATE 06/14/2007] The Colgate-Palmolive Company warned that counterfeit toothpaste falsely packaged as "Colgate" has been found in several dollar-type discount stores in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. There are indications that the product does not contain fluoride and may contain diethylene glycol. Consumers who suspect they may have purchased a counterfeit product can call Colgate's toll-free number 1-800-468-6502.

Things I didn't see that I purchase-

The Works toilet bowl cleaner

The Sunday paper (still just $1)

I like to take little kids in there and tell them they can have ANY one thing (or 3 things, or whatever) that they want. It blows their little minds.

My Dollar Tree is within walking distance from my home. I would say that the store in general was one of the first DT here in our city,so I think it is somewhat run down. I buy thank you notes, party invitations, party supplies,Mylar balloons, cards, orange bottle degreaser, bleach, throw away cups, silverware etc. Lightbulbs, batteries. I do not go often, but when I do I will spend at least $20-30. Since I do not coupon it is a great place for me.

This summer I entered a Pinterest contest and won $100 to Dollar Tree. :cool1: I buy plastic containers for my classroom. I also bought containers, crafts, and decorations (tablecloths, plates, napkins) to make up "Disney Movie Night" boxes for DD. Now when we want to have a special night, she can just grab a box and decorate.

I also buy Disney stickers and glow sticks for DD to use and hand out to other kids while we are on Disney vacations.

I buy ponchos for the parks, 2 or 3 for a dollar. Wear them and trash them! I buy my daughter bubble bath and bath bombs as a treat. Sometimes I find some random great stuff, other times, everything looks like its worth less than a dollar. Hit and miss.

I mostly buy stuff like cotton swabs and cotton rounds, much cheaper than Target. I have on occasion bought kitchen utensils like serving spoons for work events. I won't buy the bath products or makeup. I have found the bath products like the shower gel or bubble bath is really watery so you have to use a lot of it.

I have in the past bought velcro curlers for my hair. Put a large one in before my drive to work and by the time I get to work my bangs are perfectly curled.
