My parents are coming over for breakfast for Christmas. I was going to get some croissants from Tradder Joes but I also have to make something because my mom has diabetes and can not eat those....what is something "make ahead" or easy that you make?

As for dinner as will have 13 people over. We were going to be grilling but my grill broke yesterday ;/ What do you usually make?

Thanks!

I always make an egg bake for breakfast Christmas morning. There are lots of recipes online. I make it the night before and put it in the fridge. Just bake it in the morning. Just be aware, in my experience, it takes longer to bake than the directions say.

One year, I made an egg bake in the crock pot, but never again. By two in the morning the whole house smells like cooking eggs. It makes you hungry at first, but then by morning you are just sick of the smell.

For dinner, I make turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes etc..

Merry Christmas!

Breakfast has always been Pillsbury orange and cinnamon rolls. My mom did those when I was little, and I've kept the tradition with my family.

For dinner, it's veggie and dips, cheese and crackers and sausages/salami, and leftovers from Christmas Eve lunch/dinner. I refuse to cook on Christmas Day anymore---spent 20 years in the kitchen, missing the fun with the girls. I went on strike 6 or 7 years ago, and my Christmases have been much less stressful and more fun.
We usually do a big Chinese food meal for lunch/dinner on 12/24. It's later than lunch time, earlier than dinner time. I get double on some food items, so there's plenty for the next day.

We do the egg bakes too. Idk if it's my crock pot or what but the smell has never bothered me. Plus I love being able to put the crockpot on before bed and wake up to hot breakfast!

As for dinner, we've become a smaller group since my sis is in NYC (just mama, SO, DD and me now) so I was thinking crock pot chicken and stuffing. Again set it and forget it! That was im able to enjoy the day and not stress about cooking.

For 13 people that might not work. Maybe do your grilling indoors? Use the oven as your grill?

We made these baked scrambled eggs one year for a Christmas Eve brunch for 13 people. I was nervous about them and every single person commented on how good they were!

This year it's just six of us for breakfast Christmas morning. We'll be having those eggs (easy to pop in the oven and not a lot of fuss), pillsbury cinnamon rolls, various fruits, sausage rounds and toast. That should cover the various food preferences of everyone. Christmas ends up being a long day and I find we have to have protein with our late breakfast or we're all starving again well before Christmas dinner is ready at my mom and dad's. Or you just feel sick from nibbling on sweets and carbs all day.

I'm not sure about dinner since it's always at my parents. I think it's prime rib this year.

Breakfast is the big Christmas meal at my mom's house, we go all out.
This hashbrown casserole is my absolute favorite, and easy to make the night before and just bake the day of:

We also do eggs, bacon, grits, homemade buttermilk biscuits & sausage patties, but we do all that the morning of.

Dinner is at H's grandmothers house. She changes up the menu every year, I'm not sure what we'll have this year.

I know that for some the Christmas Eve meal is the big celebration, but Christmas eve is just pot luck at my cousins house with games for the kids.

On the other hand, Christmas is the big celebration day for us. Christmas breakfast is always eggs benedict with homefries and preserved fruit (usually pear slices). It sounds way more difficult to make than it is. We make it for 7 people. We cheat and fry the eggs over easy using pam and a mold and the sauce is made with the Knorr mix. The canadian bacon and english muffins are super easy because we just heat them in the oven together on a cookie sheet on low heat for a few minutes. We've done the sauce from scratch and poached the eggs but for the difference in flavor, it's just not worth the stress. I prep the potatoes the night before, even put them in the pan and partially cook and just throw them on the stove to cook the rest of the way while we're making the eggs.

My mom does Christmas dinner. This year it's spiral cut ham with augratin potatoes and beans and rolls and... with a mix of desserts.

We don't do a Christmas Eve dinner. On Christmas morning I make a HUGE brunch meal ........ A couple of egg casseroles, cinnamon roll casserole, baked French toast, muffins and mimosas. Brunch is eaten with the Disney parade on TV. I don't cook dinner on Christmas any more, as we have dinner with the relatives on the 26th. A couple of hours on the 25th are spent prepping for the 26th. This has been our tradition for at least 10 years now and I don't see it ever changing. We have reached perfection.

Since we have 2 good size meals--Christmas Eve has friends over (empanadas, rice, chili..) and then a large meal mid-afternoon on Christmas day, it's always been cold cereal and cookies morning. DH likes oatmeal with toppings, but the kids are not fans.

At my mom's house, she makes pancakes, eggs...usual breakfast items. I usually can't eat much for dinner though.

Our dinner this year is Cajun turkey, rice and crawfish etoufee, greens...

My suggestion to the OP: What does your mom usually eat in the mornings? She may be a simple fruits and toast eater. Your plan to pick up the croissants and then add some fruits, cottage cheese, other whole grain bread items.
:santa:

We usually go out for Chinese Christmas Eve. Its just me, DH, and DS8 and DS2 at home Christmas morning, so I usually do Pillsbury Cinnamon rolls. This year DH wants an egg bake type of dish, but I dont' think anyone will eat it but him. I might try a small one if I have time and extra eggs ;) I might also pick up a small fruit platter from the grocery store too, I think the kids will pick at that through the morning too. Our big meal is at my mom's house, a traditional turkey/ham type meal. My assignment is rolls :rotfl2:

Love this idea! Simple...I may be stealing this idea!

For Xmas day, I usually do an italian feast. I make homemade meatballs and make a lasagna. Caesar salad, garlic bread, hoagie rolls (for those who want meatball subs) and an assortment of homemade desserts.

Our tradition is somewhat strange, as the food doesn't see to have anything to do with Christmas. It started when we were young, and has continued ever since. My mother would put a pot of vegetable soup on the stove to simmer, and we'd head out to go to the Christmas Eve services at church. By the time we'd return home, our grandparents and other relatives would have arrived at the house, and we'd have our Midnight supper and present exchange. The big hit of the meal, though, would be something we call "the loaf." Earlier in the day, Mom would assemble it an put it in the refrigerator to chill. Dad is usually in charge of decorating it, and usually makes some Christmas-themed decorations using pickle tray items. The loaf is essentially a three layer sandwich "iced" in cream cheese. A layer of bread (crust removed), a layer of chicken salad, more bread, then ham salad, more bread, then egg salad, and a final layer of bread. The icing is softened cream cheese mixed with sweet pickle juice. Even now when we're grown, the biggest issue each year is the fact that there are three of us kids and only two "end" pieces.

Here's a picture of the loaf from a few years ago:

One of my biggest regrets for the year we spent Christmas week at Disney World is that my mother refused to save me any of the loaf. (We visited them and did Christmas the following week.) She said it was what I got for choosing "Mickey over Mommy."

Xmas eve:
Asst appetizers
Cold shrimp
meat & cheese
chili & cinnamon rolls (it's a Nebraska thing)

Xmas morning:
leftover cinnamon rolls
Xmas casserole (I dunno--eggs, cheese, potatoes, sausage)

I always make an sausage and egg casserole for breakfast. We put it in the oven then open gifts while its cooking. We are traveling to see DD this year for Christmas so I'm cooking it Christmas eve morning and taking it with us.

Christmas Eve dinner is always sloppy Joe's and Ballreich potato chips (It has to that specific brand. family tradition).

Christmas morning is overnight cinnamon rolls. And then whatever everyone wants for breakfast. I did a hashbrown casserole last year. This year I am considering this: http://diethood.com/hashbrowns-spinach-tomato-pie/

Christmas dinner is usually something that we just don't make very often. For the past few years it has been, and will be again this year, prime rib pasta.

Breakfast has always been Pillsbury orange and cinnamon rolls.

Those are my favorite! For breakfast I am going to make the Breakfast Lasagna from CP. I found the recipe online a while back, and I think it will make a great addition to our Christmas breakfast.

We always make Pillsbury cinnamon rolls. It has always been just DH, me, and DD who is 4 now. This year, my mom and in-laws will be there so I might do some sort of breakfast casserole to go along with the cinnamon rolls.

We make eggnog French toast for breakfast.

Ohhhh, this sounds yummy. I want to make eggnog this year so may need to incorporate it into my breakfast and get the party started LOL

For breakfast we always have pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, and there is this diner that makes incredible cinnamon and cheese breads so we always get 1 of each of them.

For dinner we either do a pot roast or a turkey. We put it to a vote the weekend before lol
