What do you hate about Disney?

I hate the lack of vegetarian food offered in the parks, I havent been since 2001 so it might have got better but whenever I have been its been a struggle to find anything to vegetarian to eat esp in the snack places where its all burgers and hotdogs!

Jen

Jen, there is some great info on vegetarian/vegan dining at WDW here :

I won't say hate. That's a little too strong, but I dislike having to ride the monorail or the boat once I've parked for MK.

MK is over crowded most of the time. They should add another MK!! One of my biggest pet peeve would be, my kids sitting on the curb waiting for the parade and the big folks and their children stand right in front of my children. Like..."HELLO!!!" "CAN'T YOU SEE WE'RE HERE FIRST AND YOU'RE STANDING RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY CHILDREN!!"

I hate that it's such a process to get into the parks and all the parking lots are so far away.

:hourglass
hhmmm..things I hate!! This will take some time! As much as I love WDW, and I have been 13 times....I do have some pet peeves!

1. I wish the parks were open earlier and later.
2. Some of the CM's have nasty attitudes. (One bad apple....) and seem to have lost some of the pixie dust they were once sprinkled with!
3. I wish they were more organized with the strollers during parades, fireworks, etc. I dont mind the crowds, but people with huge "SUV" strollers shouldnt think they rule the pathways!! I wish there was a size limit to those things. I mean honestly, they hurt your feet and legs when you get hit with one, they are all IN THE WAY when the operators dont watch what they are doing.
4. I wish you could tour the apartment in the castle.
5. I wish there were more rides in Adventureland.
6. And I HATE that the Grand Floridian is so dern expensive to stay at, because my dream is to stay there one day but it is too expensive. I really dont think they would take a loss if they offered a really really cheap deal and offererd it to people on a budget.
7. I hate that they dont have an ADULT only resort!!!

There is my 2cents! :)

IMHO, only a complete and utter loser would do this. On either side. This happened on our last trip too. It's so pathetic and sad. WTH is wrong with people??? If I was with someone who did this, I'd get up and leave. How astoundingly immature is that???

I'm not a big fan of at least one of our recent presidents (*hint, not the *most* recent one...) but I still respect the office of the president and I would NEVER behave in such a way during a classic WDW attraction meant to educate people , some who are visiting from other countries, about American History.

Assuming the booers were American citizens, in my case they very much seemed to be, what kind of message does it send to visitors from other countries when you are booing and mocking your own leader during a WDW attraction?

Sorry for the rant. I'm one who has very little tolerance for morons and the people who boo at any president during The Hall of Presidents are pretty high up there on the periodic table of idiots...

ITA!!! ::yes::

The water in the water fountains. Ewww. It smells nasty, it tastes nasty, and it's warm. I always end up hauling bottles of water from home, and it's such a hassel.

The shows are too loud, my ears are always ringing after the Country Bear Jamboree, and my daughter of course wants to see it 50 million times.

The disorder waiting for a parade or firework show. I'm not sure how it can be done better, but it does annoy me that after we've waited an hour for the perfect spot, another family pops in at the last minute and either stands right in front of us, or crowds us so much that we can't stand next to it and watch the show.

I really don't mind the crowds, that's a part of the happiest place on earth! We went last fall during the whole hurricane debacle, and the parks were so empty, it didn't feel like Disney.

And I'm with the other poster on the Animal Kingdom. Why is that the hottest park on the planet??

OH I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! IT IS JUST GROSS...AND I WAS HOPING THAT IT WASN'T JUST ME THAT THOUGHT THIS WAY!!!

Disney World, to me, is just the best place on earth. I don't think that any other place will top WDW. There are a few things that I would change though, and comment on from other posters.

First off, the poster who commented on others who boo during the Hall of Presidents. There's two things aren't good to discuss or get in an argument about, religion and politics. If I would have been there and he would have boo-ed, he would have gotten an earful from me.

Second off, crowds. It's WDW people, there are going to be crowds. I've only been to Disney World when it's been crowded! Last week was the first time that I've been there during a not so busy season. So then how comes during last summer I was able to see every big ride and show AND have PSs with the whole family? Crowds are expected.

The one thing I can't stand is when people don't move out of the way for those on the electric scooters. Until you're with a person (like my nana) who has to use one you won't understand. I just wish that everyone could be a little more considerate.

Also, when waiting in line for a parade and you're tall, move out of the way for those who are shorter. I'll admit it, I'm a tall girl, but I will always move out of the way and let smaller children in front of me, which also makes parents happy and they in turn have a nice conversation with you to pass time away while waiting for the parade to start.

I don't like paying $7+ for a hamburger.

The humidity at AK, I believe may be due to more vegetation, and also the heat at AK is due to there being more open spaces as opposed to the other parks.

I've noticed it too. I can't handle AK when it starts to get much above 80 out.

the busses and how they are still such a pain to get on in an ECV (as well as the people on the bus complaining about how long it takes to load then not moving for me to sit down, yes I've had to STAND on the way to the park because we are not allowed to sit in our ECV's)

Now THAT is a disgrace! And then people wonder why they board ecv's and chairs FIRST!

I hate the way maintnance seems to have slipped - Spills not wiped or swept up promptly, paintwork that needs to be painted, hedges that need to be trimmed, kind of thing.

I hate the way all the shops have the same merchandise - It used to be an adventure to seek out the different resort shops and ride shops to see what interesting things I could find.

I hate the way some newer cast members seem not to have been indoctrinated into the Disney way. One must seek out the older CMS to have the real 'disney magical experience'.

I hate that budget cuts have decreased resort staff at the value resorts in particular such that one must wait in line an hour to check in (too much for this old lady to stand.)

I hate that they are restricting or eliminating clever, DISNEY rides and attractions like Timekeeper and carousel of progress, in favor of more "IOA" type rides and clones of dumbo.

Disney took away the authentic dining experience of Restaurant Akershus and replaced it with a Princess Meal! :guilty: It seems like everything is about Princesses and Princesses and Money and Princesses and Money and Princesses.

I have to admit that I think Disney prices are pretty steep. Even the Value resorts are high for very small rooms. I would love to stay at a deluxe more often than I usually do, but I can't see paying so much more for another hotel room. Ticket prices are way to high. It is crazy that at the buffets you have to pay such a high price for a 3 year old that isnt going to eat that much. Ok I am done with my rant.

I don't really like rude people who cut in front of you in line.
I don't get it/and i don't think they do either.

This is priceless! My DH and I feel exactly the same way. His family is of Norwegian heritage, and we loved eating at RA for that "transported to Norway" feeling. We really miss it (and both the cold *and* hot buffets)...

Where to begin . . .

The continued rise in admission prices while offerring less than before the price increase (not replacing closed attrations, shorter hours, etc.).

The destruction of Main St. - They turned what was once a wonderful experience into nothing more than a big chain of plushes for sale.

The lowered standards of maintenance in all areas - things needing paint, clean restrooms, rotting wood in attraction facades, etc.

Getting away from Walt Disney's original intention for a theme park - a place all members of the family could enjoy. Most of the new attractions are targeting either the very young or teenagers/thrill seekers. I understand the need to build new attractions that appeal to those segments, but why do they have to get rid of the others? (attractions like Mike Fink Keel Boats, Diamond Horseshoe Review, Horizons, Superstar Television, Skyway, etc.).

These observations are made from 33 years of regular WDW visits. :sunny:

This is a little something I posted in another thread a while back...

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Bring back Horizons.

No. Don’t just stop there. I am a long time fan of WDW. But I admit, in recent years, I’ve lost a bit of my interest. Because you are turning into Six Flags. Stop it.

We come to WDW for animatronics rides that take us to another place. We like ride fast paced rides like Dinosaur because they are realistic and exciting. We don’t want your typical thrill ride. That’s not what WDW was about. Test Track is fun, but where’s the extra WDW touches? Pooh is terrific but so much more could have been done with it. Motion simulator rides are nice the first few times, but how about some more long rides like Horizons, World of Motion and the Original Journey Into Imagination.

Why must you keep taking away what we come here for? I cried. Yes. I admit it, I wept like a tantrum throwing child when you took Horizons away from me. That was my favorite ride. What was wrong with it? Why did you have to remove it? It’s not that I don’t LIKE Mission Space. Sure, I do. And it’s my boyfriends favorite. (For the record, he never went to EPCOT in it’s glory days…he never knew Horizons et al). But Mission Space is not what WDW is all about.

Now I hear rumors that you may take away Spaceship Earth and Carousel of Progress. Why? Why would you do that to us? Money? Walt would roll over in his grave. That’s not what he stood for. He stood for good, quality entertainment with educational aspects and the newest technology. He stood for making people imagine and taking people back to another time.

While we’re on Epcot, how about some new countries? Europe is lovely but there’s a great big world out there. I can name 15 countries off the top of my head whose culture is diverse and you could easily build a pavilion around. How about Egypt? Greece? Israel? Australia? Or anywhere in Africa or South America? Or maybe before that, you can update the countries there now. Make the World Showcase a place to spend a day in and of itself. Add some rides, or some walk through attractions that last longer than 10 minutes.

Having Figment walk around was a nice touch, but why not bring Journey Back to it’s Original Glory instead of what it is now. Do you know that the last several trips I’ve taken, Journey has not even had a line? That makes me sad. Because that means you might take it away forever.

When I look around Epcot, I see a lot of wasted space. Not open space, but wasted space. If you are going to close down Wonders of Life, I say do it. Don’t taunt us. Put something fun in its place. Who really wants to see a movie about the facts of life when they are on vacation anyway? I never really got that. Innoventions and ImageWorks could also be utilized in a better way as well. I like what you have there, but it’s so spread out. You could do more and you know it.

Perhaps the saddest of all is what you have done with the Living Seas. I used to love going here to ride the ride part past the giant aquariums. Now when I go, I feel like part of the magic is gone. I’m no longer riding to Sea Base Alpha. Now I’m just walking through an aquarium. Bring the ride back. Incorporate Nemo more and Ariel and friends. Everyone loves marine biology! You could have a hit once again with this area.

Epcot is not the only park that needs help…

MGM needs a character meal. How about one with Stars of the Movies…you could have popular characters from all the films. How about a Toy Story meal at Pizza Planet? How about a heroes meal for little boys or girls who just don’t like Princesses? Or a villains dinner to coincide with Fantasmic? That would be great! If I can think of these things, why haven’t you?

You need to update some things here. How about instead of the Indy stunt show, you bring over the cool Indy ride from DL in CA? Or maybe you could update that backlot tour and the movie ride? Imagine if the movie ride actually reflected some movies that have come out in the last 10 years? Amazing!

All of the walk through galleries are nice, but they were empty the last time I went. While I thoroughly enjoyed Walt’s gallery, and the animation galleries, I think these could be combined and that space used for other things. Keep them, because they are important, but better utilize your space.

Animal Kingdom…where to begin? Whatever happened to Beastly Kingdom? Us fantasy fans have been dying to see an exhibit of unicorns, dragons and other such beasts for the last decade. We know you can do it! You made Lucky the dinosaur! You could do so much with this.

And how about some sit down restaurants in AK? Rainforest Café gets old after a while. I can go to the Rainforest Café in my home state. You have so many themes and exotic foods to choose from. You could even do a character meal or two here aside from the one breakfast.

While we’re on AK, why not showcase some animals that live in this very country. I bet people who travel here from other lands who see monkeys and tigers in their own country side would be just tickled to see a pair of black bear cubs or an American Eagle.

Last but not least…our beloved Magic Kingdom is falling into disrepair. Oh, I won’t complain about how messy it is, but I am not going to pretend it’s the same as it was 10 years ago. Work was never done when the park was open then, things were kept pristine. Sure, you can blame some of it on messy patrons, but not all of it.

Why are certain rides in Tomorrowland always closed? Would it be that much to keep them open? You are heading in the right direction with Stitch, but the show needs more than just Stitchs voice in some darkness. You guys have the know how and the money to make rides like Spiderman at Universal. There, I made it this far without a Universal reference, but by golly, Spidey trumps most of your rides and I’m not ashamed to admit it. But I don’t particularly like Spiderman! I wish you all could do something like that, with those kinds of realistic effects with Winnie the Pooh!

I could go on and on and on about updating things and fixing problems like the fact that virtually every water ride in MK (Pirates, Small World) inevitably means a 15 minute sitting session in the boat while the cast members unload the boats in front. Why does that take so long? I could understand unloading/loading wheelchairs which take longer, but that is not what this is! No one wants to hear It’s A Small World in the Peace room for 20 minutes, no matter how much they love the song. Not to mention it takes from the fantasy when you watch the same pirate scene over and over.

You have a huge area where 20,000 Leagues used to be, do something with it. You could put in one big ride like an elaborate coaster or two smaller dark rides, maybe something with the Princesses or Villains. Maybe something a little more light though. You already scare the heck out of little kids with Snow White’s Scary Adventures. Something more bright and fun may be in order.

How about bringing back the Swan Boats? You have so much water to utilize in this park. How about putting something else on Tom Sawyers Island? While I enjoy going there to relax mid day, I think you could also take a part of the Island and maybe set up some kiddie rides for the little ones. Nothing elaborate here, just some smaller rides, swings etc. for the kids for when their parents don’t feel like dealing with the hustle and bustle of Toon Town.

Two words : Tinker bell and Jiminy Cricket. Everyone wants them. Why not have characters walking around? Do you know how many little girls would love to have Tink sign their autograph books or get a picture with them? In fact, I think you did good with the character meet and greets in Toon Town, but there are some other characters who people would love to see. I guarantee you, Tink is on the top of that list.

Please consider small, out of the way smoking lounges on the outskirts of the parks, so that the smoking areas are clearly marked and away from everything else. My boyfriend smokes, and only in the specified areas. But he is forever having to explain to people that these are smoking areas because they really are not clearly marked, and they are often in areas where people would like to go, like photo spots. Smoking should be done in places that are completely unattractive to non smokers.

Speaking of guest behavior, how about enforcing some rules. When I am walking around MK with my 12 year old neice, and I see a guy wearing a shirt with a nude woman on it or a shirt with the F word on it, I cringe. Why are these things allowed in a family park? Why don’t you boot these people out or make them turn their shirts inside out? Same goes for people who swear, fight and otherwise behave in an unruly manner. It’s your park. Kick them out.

As for the resorts, extend the monorail if you can. I’ve seen people struggle on the busses with strollers and I suspect that a monorail would be a lot easier for them. The monorail should at least go to all four parks. Then we can talk about resorts.

I won’t say the resorts are overpriced, because I don’t think they are. However, as someone who shelled out the cash for an annual pass, I would like to be guaranteed a small discount. Even if you make the discounts slightly smaller to assure that people with APs can get one as long as there is a room available at that hotel at all (if you are completely booked, I understand). I’ll tell you, it would make me a lot more likely to renew my pass than I feel now, unsure if I will be able to get a discount. The hotel discounts were 50% of the reason I chose to get an AP. With a discount, I’ll be staying longer, hence spending more money in the restaurants and shops when I am there. You’ll break even, I promise. ;)

Speaking of resorts, make that dining package available to us all. I have an AP. I’ll never stay on a package. But I’d consider buying a dining package if the right one were offered to keep things easy.

My last and I’m sure my most controversial suggestion is to make the Sunrise/Sunset Safari available to anyone willing to pay for it. You charge concierge guests for it as it is. But to be honest, though I’m sure your concierge service is nice, I have no need or desire to stay concierge. But I’d pay a hundred and fifty or so for a ticket to this safari as a one time thing if it were offered. Make it like the other backstage learning things. If your concierge guests throw a fit about this being made available to us common folk, make it cost more for us then, and offer it to them at a reduced price. A middle ground can be reached, I’m sure.

Well, while we are on the issue of controversy, I have one more gripe. Pleasure Island. It’s for grown ups. We were in the Adventurer’s Club late one night and a family with two kids (I’m guessing about ages 6 and 9) came in and sat down. I’m not even sure how the children got in? But there they were. The parents were drinking and the kids were running around trying to talk to strangers. It was just…well, everyone has a way they behave with adults, and a way they behave with children. When I’m in grown up mode, I don’t want to have to suddenly feel like I have to watch every thing I say because there is a child listening to me. Maybe people are afraid to say it, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who does not think late night Pleasure Island is for children.

Well, these are just a few suggestions I have. I’m sure there are more floating around in my mind, but this is long enough. So Disney people, if you are reading this, I do hope you consider some of these things.

We are a family of 5. It sure would be nice to stay at a resort like the All-Stars or Pop Century but we then would have to get two rooms. As it is, we would have to stay at a deluxe (I know about POR) or stay off-site. For that much money I am staying off-site.

ITA, EsmeraldaX!! I especially want to agree about the monorail. I was going to bring that up. I would love for WDW to have monorail access at all parks!

I can't stand how run down the parks seemed - It's been 10 years since I last was at DisneyWorld.

I couldn't believe the state of The Living Seas - I used to love just going and sitting and staring into the aquarium for hours, because you always saw something new. This time after looking for a couple of minutes I had to look away because almost every fish had sores, or missing parts of their fins. The colours just aren't there anymore - everything seemed dull & lifeless. I missed the "tunnel" into the aquarium where you are surrounded on all 3 sides by the aquarium - please tell me they are just refurbishing it, and it will be back...

How difficult it can be to get around with a stroller. In shops many times I have to walk about 50 feet to get to a spot about 2 feet away from me because of all of the people that won't take a stip forward or move over a couple inches so I can get my stroller through. When trying to park the stroller to go to an attraction, groups of people will be congregated in front of the parking area, totally oblivious to the fact that no one can get their strollers past them. And then there are all the people that run right in front of you and cut you off, and then get upset because the stroller hits their ankles. Sometimes I am tempted to turn into one of those people that rams everyone with their strollers.... :guilty:
