I know, I know, it shouldn't be a diet. It should be a lifestyle change. I'm trying to get the most I can out of 1200 calories a day.

I wanted to share some of my favorites and see if anyone else had some good suggestions, and not too many people seem to make it to the wish boards.

Besides fruits, veggies, etc, some of my favorite finds so far are:

Laughing Cow Light wedges: 35 calories
string cheese: 60-80 calories depending on brand
skinny cow ice cream sandwiches: 140 calories (as a treat)
Extreme Wellness high fiber tortillas: 71 calories, 8 g protein, 13 g fiber (made with soy protein)

Have any great suggestions?

You can eat egg whites. I love recreating the scrambled eggs from Boma with a little goat cheese, chives and I also add dill.

Indian food can be very healthy too (you just need to cut down on the oil/butter/cream, which you'll find at a lot of the restaurants). You can buy all sorts of lentils, or chickpeas, kidney beans, etc. Look up a recipe called Rajma. It's similar to chili, but vegetarian, and with Indian flavorings.

Other good Indian recipes are green beans with a little coconut, lentil soups (one of my favorites is sweet, with brown sugar, sweet potatoes, onion, tomato and carrot), mango lentils, spinach lentils which I love to add roasted garlic to ... etc.

Giada from Food Network has some good recipes I always try, either exact or with amendments. She had a good pasta with asparagus and tomato and peas, and you could also add mushrooms, artichoke, etc.

Good luck! I'm working toward a goal too and I hope I get to read everyone's success stories! :grouphug:

I'm doing Weight Watchers, and I recently learned that Yoplait now has a Fiber One yogurt that is ZERO points. I think it's 50 cals, 0 grams fat, 5 grams figer, and 3 grams protein. It doesn't taste bad at all, and because of the extra fiber, it's quite filling, for 50 calories!

Also, There is a cereal I like - Special K protein plus. It's 1 WW point per serving - add 1/2 cup skim milk for another point, not sure of the calories though... High protein, I think 10g protein per serving just for the cereal! Great breakfast food!

I don't diet, but I do try to eat healthy. Some of the things I enjoy include:

*Water w/real lemon slice
*Weight Watchers double chocolate muffin for breakfast (2.5 grams of fat)
*White rice w/I Can't Believe It's Not Butter (very filling)
*Rice Cakes
*Side Salads
*Fruit Leathers

You already said fruit, or that would've been at the top of my list! I could eat fresh fruit all day long.

Go buy the "Eat This, Not That" books - they are FULL of healthy food options that taste good, for all meals. Eating better isn't about just cutting out calories, it is also about making sure the calories you do eat are made from the right stuff, not just empty calories. Soda, for instance, has zero redeeming nutritional value. Empty calories. Green tea? Full of good stuff and very low in calories. Point to the green tea. Processed white rice? Mostly empty calories. Whole grain brown rice or quinoa? Full of nutritional value. Point to the whole grains. Deep fried chicken fingers? Bad. Baked chicken fingers in panko bread crumbs? Just as good, but infinitely healthier. Replace the bad and useless with the good and helpful. Those healthy, high protien, high fiber foods fill you up better and keep you full longer so those 1,200 calories stretch a lot further than 2,000 bad calories ever did. We actually find ourselves sometimes struggling to eat ENOUGH calories on some days now that we have been eating healthy for a while.

I get tired of eating veggies sometimes as a party of my healthy life style.

So to mix it up - I love to do Roasted Veggies in the oven.

Toss your favorite veggies with just a little EVOO, some good Balsamic Vinegar, some fresh rosemary and thyme, and some Salt & Pepper.
Put on a baking sheet and cook about 20 - 30 minutes (depends on the veggies) Until they are caramelized (they will get darker because of the balsamic)
Its sooo good like that!! :goodvibes
Toss those roasted veggies with some grilled chicken for a delicious meal!

Along the lines of the previous poster, I second the roasted veggies. My favorite thing when dieting is to make roasted veggie soup. I roast on a baking sheet with salt/pepper and olive oil...butternut squash, onions, asparagus, carrots, red peppers, corn. Then I take them out and whirl them in a blender with chicken or veggie broth. Practically no calories and fills you all day. Sooooo good.

I also like Chobani Yogurt. 140 calories which is a little high, but it has 14 grams of protein. So if I eat it with something high fiber like an english muffin it fills me for quite a number of hours.

My favorite healthy snack is steamed edamame! It fills me up, and it tastes like popcorn. At least that's what I think. I love to steam some around 3:00 in the afternoon, to get me over the worst part of the day.

I'm doing P90X, so I'm taking in a good bit of protein. I buy everything at Sam's in bulk. Try to eat every 3 hours. Here's my day:

Meal 1 - 6-8 egg white omelet
Meal 2 - protein shake
Meal 3 - 1 can of tuna, 1 cup of mix veggies, string cheese
Meal 4 - protein bar
Meal 4 - grilled chicken breast, salad
Meal 6 - protein shake

I may mix it up a bit with fish or shrimp. If I get a little hungry between I'll eat a handful of almonds. I allow myself a cheat meal or 2 a week for family events.

DH and I are "low carbing" it and I like making Asian dishes. Instead of rice or a bed of noodles, I discovered SPAGHETTI SQUASH this week. Wild stuff! Tastes horrible by itself but if used exactly as "pasta" or "rice" with a spicy dish poured over it, the stuff is amazing. :goodvibes Only 5 carbs for half a cup and really low cal. So, bye-bye rice and pasta at this house.

i LOOOOOOOOVE the Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches! and i like the Laughing Cow cheese wedges too! i have them both in my fridge right now!

If you like almonds, the new Almond Milk by Silk is FABULOUS! I take 1 cup of that and 1/2 c of Silk Chocolate soy milk and mix it for breakfast. It's a chocolate almond treat! Seriously, it's really yummy!

I'm trying to eat healthier too. Problem is, I'm a really picky eater and I hate vegetables (I know, I know). I'm kind of at a loss for things I can eat that are healthy and low calorie! :confused3 eta, I love fruit but I've heard they are high in sugar. ?

I third the skinny cow products. They are all great!

Oatmeal with Flax Seed and Wheat Germ (yeah, I'd laugh at myself five years ago)
Smoothie (1/2 banana, 1/2 cup papaya or mango, and 1/2 cup strawberries, 1-2 cups orange juice) - it's really good!
Red peppers with hummus
Tomato Soup
Tuna Sandwich on Multi-grain
Rice cake with peanut butter or nutella
Greek Yogurt with almonds and chocolate chips
Sunflower seeds, almonds, and chocolate chips mixed up
Apples (eat it in the car if you're not an apple person)

Why does eating in the car help if you aren't an apple person?

Grilled brussel sprouts, my fiance thinks I am weird but I love those vegetables. (1 cup=38 calories)

A really good place to get calories is on sparkrecipes.com, they have a lot of recipes for pratically everything and have really low calories

Why does eating in the car help if you aren't an apple person?

I like apples, but not that much especially when they're not in season. So I find they are a good car snack because it satisfies my hunger and I'm getting my nutrients - and there's nothing else to eat when I'm in the car. Keep in mind, I'm one who will eat out of boredom so I might as well have something nutritious around.

I live on egg whites
tuna on oatmeal light bread
steel cut oatmeal ( this is the best oatmeal for you)
peas, carrots, and green beans (all fresh)
baked potatoes
tons of water
boca burger ( I do not eat meat)
tons of yogurt
raisins
cantaloupe and melon with blueberries and strawberries

I love making Zucchini fries. Peal and cut up a zucchini like fries. Dip them in egg whites or egg beaters. Shake 'em up in some Panko crumbs or bread crumbs (they don't need much, just a little).. Then I bake them at about 400 degrees for about 25-30 minutes. YUM! Its the only vegetable I can get my picky eater son to eat.
