.....you've been working on your resume for the past 4 hours and you realize that 99.9% of the companies in your city really aren't looking to hire someone with your skills?

I'm afraid I'm going to have to take a job that I didn't go to school for.....which I know lots of people tend to do (and I've done it a few times), but it just ticks me off that I spent that much time, effort and money going to school to learn something specific only to have to take a job that isn't related. To top it off, I'm probably going to be making about 20% less than I did a year ago.

I've thought about moving because there tends to be a greater need for art directors and commercial photographers in larger cities, but at the moment I just can't afford to do that.

Sorry about that. Okay......I'm done venting now.

At least with Art direction, there is always the chance they will allow cyber-commuting ;)

I never even thought of that. Looking for work in another city isn't a bad idea now that you mention it.

I'm kinda slow in the thinkin' department. :surfweb:

Good luck doll
The commercial art world is tough sometimes.

I use to have a client in your area - Build a Bear

Their headquarters is columbus.
Their scary people - like a cult

No kidding, Seymour! :lmao: My daughter applied for an admin job at the BaB location in Phoenix and the vibe was just waaaaaaay too weird.

She's been looking for a job for months and still hasn't found anything that pays a living salary & has health insurance. She's currently working two partime jobs a book store which pays the bills (kinda) and a part-time recording engineer (she loves that but with this economy, her boss can't see his way clear to put her on full-time). It's tough out there.

Why does this not surprise me?
COWlumbus has quite a few headquarter locations--B&B.....Wendy's.....Marzetti's Dressing.......Cardinal Health......Nationwide Insurance.....

COWlumbus is a small big city.....or vice versa.

No S**T, Seymour! :lmao: My daughter applied for an admin job at the BaB location in Phoenix and the vibe was just waaaaaaay too weird.

Ohio has been hit with hard times. A lot harder than I initially thought. :confused3

It's sooo difficult to find a job right now! The economy officially died on us. I can't even get an entry level job, so I'm working at Lush part time

I'm also working on my resume. Hey I have a client in Columbus - actually 2 in that area.... Isn't Victoria's Secret there also? I know they have an office there. Also Tween Brands - you may want to check them out. I also work with Hickory Farms but they are not near Columbus - northern Ohio I think.

Good luck!

Victoria's Secret is there too.
I met with them once as well.

On a plus side - Columbus was the first place I got to try something called a Gooey Butter Cake - YUMMY!

I didn't get to go to the arch though :guilty:

I just realized, one of my co-workers also owns an advertising company, and is looking for some more help. I'll pass on your info to him :thumbsup2

My best friend went to school at RIT for digital image something (he works for Estee Lauder as a Color Analyst developing new tech for skin products). He know going into it, he would have to work in a major city to find a job. He ended up in NYC for Estee Lauder (although NASA was on the short list too).

Unfortunately, sometimes to secure a job, a move is required.

I'm struggling too. I earned a Doctorate a couple of years ago in a field I don't even want to be in anymore....

Gracias! Yeah, Victoria's Secret is here. Is that a Limited brand? The Limited has their headquarters here too.

Thank you very much, David. I greatly appreciate it. :)

Oh.....trust me, moving to NYC is a dream of mine. My best friend lives there. I'd have to secure a good job there before even considering moving there. It's kind of scary, but making $90,000 a year in Manhattan will only give you similar luxuries that about $30,000 will here. My friend's apartment is 450 square feet and is over $2000 a month. :sad2: Don't tell him I told you. ;)

It stinks, doesn't it? Especially when starting over just isn't an option. :confused3

Limited is Tween Brands. They are converting many of the Limited Too stores into Justice, Just For Girls stores. But they also mail a catalog - maybe you could check with them?

Oh, I know, my friend has a 500 square foot condo on LI. He spent around $350K on this place, and its not that nice.

My partners Sister and Brother-in-law are somewhat of snobs and they think an address is everything, so they bought a condo in NYC based on the address. Their 374 square foot condo was so small, and the price was close to what most dream to have in retirement savings.
