What do you do for Privacy?

If you are staying in a say value resort (which is 1 room correct?) and the little ones OR big ones are sleep, do you and your DH/SO just tip toe around so as not to wake the kids?

What if you aren't sleepy and it's early and you want to watch TV or something? I could see it with like a 1 or 2 bedroom villa but I'm trying to picture privacy at night in a 1 room resort.

I have a 6 and 8 year old and when we go to Disney the only privacy I get is when I lock myself into the bathroom! ;) Usually though by the time we get back to the room we're all pretty well pooped from a day at the parks, so we have no trouble getting ready for bed & falling asleep. If by some chance, mom and dad are still not sleepy, we sit on the balcony for awhile. Our girls can't sleep with the TV on :( .

After having to tip toe around during naps and early bed times, plus having to watch Toon Disney one trip, we bought into SSR. I have no advice to give you. I did it once and I was miserable.

Can only speak for our family, but by the time we get back to the room and everyone showers, we all go to sleep at the same time. Touring parks all day (and breaking for a mid day swim) is exhausting! I think I fall asleep faster than the kids.

When we go to Disney I'm one of those people up and ready for the park by 7:00 a.m., along with DH & DD who don't have a say in the matter and think I'm  . Then we go through the parks cammando style till afternoon, go back to the resort pool for a rest, than back to the park for the evening. I don't sleep well in hotel rooms, but I can tell you from experience that DD & DH wouldn't wake up after a day like this even if the Spectromagic Parade came through our room. :rotfl2:

I just put the t.v. on low or read a book and neither the tv or the light wakes them up.

Privacy - What is that? I don't get that in my small house ever. LOL

No, seriously, we were all so tired that the kids were zonked out and dead to the world, and we were soon after. We had to try really hard to get them to wake up even in the mornings.

My kids sleep through anything, all the time. And so does my DH. I just go on about my business as usual.

We (me, DW, DD8, DS5) have stayed at Value resorts many times. As some others have said, we are usually pooped at the same time, and sort of crash when we get back to the room. There has been an evening or two when I would wander down to the Food Court and drink a cup or two of soda and watch the world go by as DW puts the kids to bed.... and vice versa.

At POFQ we flipped the lock around so that the door was cracked and sat on the ground outside our door, had snacks and nightcaps, watched people come and go from the lobby/food court area, but mostly talked about ds, our favorite subject during alone time, LOL. It was right after Hurrican Francis and the resort was dead so we weren't in anyone's way.

Unless they're really light sleepers, your family will be so pooped that a low-volume TV or a light for reading won't bother them. Of course, after a couple of days, that might be you, too. :faint:

That's the case with me and my DW / DD. I usually go out into the balcony (when we've been able to stay at a Deluxe), or go out for a walk and some people-watching.

We started staying at deluxe for that reason. We can sit out on the balcony for awhile and put the kids to bed. We have now purchased DVC and I can't wait to stay in a 1 bedroom. :cool1:

We all go to bed at the same time. :) After a long day we are exhausted! :)

I had that same thought last year. dd was only 2 turning 3 and I knew we would be heading back to the resort for her to nap every afternoon. There was no way I would want to just sit there in the room. Plus she has a hard time going to sleep with someone there. She is an easy sleeper - I say good night and walk out of the room but if I stayed and tried to lay down with her, she would toss and turn or keep trying to talk to me. Ugh - I couldn't imagine that at Disney.

We ended up renting points from a DVC member and stayed at OKW for 1 wk. It was much cheaper then any resort, including All Stars when you include taxes and such. DH and I loved it. We put her down for a nap or bedtime and he would make some business calls (he had to - owns his own business) and then he and I would relax at on our balcony or drink some wine and watch a movie - one night we even took a bath together in the jacuzzi while she slept  You also have your own kitchen and since we came back for her naps everyday we utilized this for breakfast and an early dinner after nap which also saved us money. It isn't on the monorail but the buses were good - however we rented a car and you can park the car right outside your villa. Very easy!!

Okay - I will stop ranting. Some may go to bed right away and if so then the other resorts will be fine. DH and I wanted a little romance and free time on our trip and we certainly got it. :love2: We will be staying at the Poly concierge this upcoming week so we will have a balcony and thats it. I know we will like the monorail access and the resort, but I am curious how we will like the room after being spoiled at OKW. We are renting points in Dec for VWL - that should be good too.

It's been a long time since our DDs were little, but they would crash in the room pretty quickly when we got in at night. The TV or conversation didn't bother them at all. :earsboy:

Our kids have left home now. But, they could sleep through anything -- especially after a day at Disney.

I use to worry about them because they could even sleep through the smoke detector. Thankfully, they have outgrown sleeping that soundly now.

Let me tell you. We have three little ones, we stay at a deluxe (GF). I was really worried the first year because ds was only 2, still slept in a crib, always slept in his own room and was a GREAT sleeper. I was so afraid that with us being in the room and being off schedule it would totally disrupt him. We were all so tired when we got back at night nothing could have disturbed them. I take the two little ones (and sometimes older dd) back to the room every day for a nap, and there's no problem. I think when you lay down your body just gives out. Ds was able to sleep in the crib without any problem even though his sisters and DH and I were in the room. Now they are all in beds and except for the first five minutes of silliness each night they fall asleep immediately. We can even keep the tv on if we want, but we usually fall asleep pretty quickly too. We're a family that starts off early, takes a break and then goes back at night and we've never had any problems. Good luck I think you'll be fine.

Like mom2rb, we bought into DVC (at BWV). It wasn't so bad when our son was little, but he's now all grown up and married. We travel with him and our DIL, and privacy is even more important. DVC villas are SO much nicer for this.

Last year we did an extended family trip with 7 of us, including a 3 year old, in a 2 bedroom OKW villa and no one felt crowded. We had a great time. And a BIG plus is the washer and dryer, especially if you have kids.

I usually try to take a nice hot soak in the tub. My DD's are 7 and 9, but still like to barge in just because. So I started the mommy's in "time out" because she's grumpy or tired and I set the timer and they have to leave me in my "time out" until the timer goes off. :earboy2: Of course if you bother someone in "time out" you have to time out also. Sneaky, but it works :rotfl2: I usually get them all tucked up in bed watching a movie to de-Disney High them. Then by the time I'm out of the tub they are calmed down and ready to sleep or most often already asleep (woohoo).

usually, by the time we get to the room my boy is so tired it doesnt matter what we do, he passes right out

Even when our boys were younger and took naps every afternoon in the room, they were never bothered by us being in the room. We'd just quietly watch TV or use the laptop. And at night we could watch TV and they didn't even flinch. :) IF only they could sleep that well AWAY from WDW! :)
