I hope to sleep in until about 7:30 each morning, but my 4 yo is usually up around 6:00 a.m. Are we considered early risers? Or are there many people up & around at 5:30? Do a lot of you try to sleep in until 10 a.m. because you're on vacation?

Even though we were up late each night during our cruise, I was still awake most mornings between 5:30 and 6, just like I am at home. I was thinking before the cruise, oh, my chance to sleep in, NOT!!! My DW and DD, that's another story, I had to drag them out of bed most mornings around 9. Good Luck!!!

I used to cherish the thought of sleeping in on vacation when DH, DD and I would ever get the chance, but once that day came, I was still not able to sleep beyond 7:00 (CST).

Maybe it's a mom thing?

I am the "human alarm clock" on all of our vacations!! Everyone up and at'em at 7:00 sharp!!! I usually get up at 6:00 to get the shower first!! When we are on vacation there is no sleeping in!!I make a schedule and my kids call me the vacation drill sargent! I want to squeze in every bit of fun that we can!!!

DH was so thrilled when we booked a cruise for this years vacation. He thinks he is going to get to relax. HA HA! Have I got news for him. There is so much "stuff" to do and only 4 days to get it done. He'll just have to take off a few days extra after we get home to relax!!

Maybe he can relax a little more on the April 30, 2005 cruise, after you convince him to go!!! LOL!!! :hyper:

Love to sleep in if that is ever possible, up at 6:30 each day while the rest of the family slept. Read on the verandah til room service arrived. There is something about being on vacation on the Magic that gets you up.

Guess it was something to do with our body-clocks (having flown from UK) but we were always up early on the Magic. You cant beat a good walk around the deck, followed by a lovely cuppa! We always met a few other cruisers enjoying the early hours on board! Nat:Pinkbounc

Get up every morning around 4:30 to VPN into work before getting DS6 off to school and then driving into work. Figure since I am on CA time, it will work perfectly on the cruise at it will be 7:30 there. I usually get to sleep in on the weekends (until 5 or 5:30) Guess I spent to many years in the Army. LOL - Mike

I was usually up before 7, most time around 6:30. You will see mostly the same faces as the week goes by walking around the top decks watching the sunrise!

The first night we were on board for our first cruise, I was up at about 3:00 cause I was just too excited to sleep. I took my book and found a comfy chair by the elevators near the spa (on deck 9) I had planned on sitting out under the stars, but they powerwash the deck during those hours, so it was awfully wet and noisy out there!

I found the Magic's programs and passengers to be more skewed towards early risers as compared to other ships I have been on.
They do the Late Seating shows BEFORE dinner, at 6:30 pm, while other ships do the late seating show at 10:30 pm........and on the Eastern EVERYONE has to clear immigration in St. Thomas between 6:30 and 7:30 am....we probably would have slept in until 9 or 10 otherwise that day.

I'm always awake at around 6 - 6:30 at home and couldn't change on holidays. I would go up to the deck walk around meet and greet, then to the refreshment station and pick up coffee and tea and a couple of danishes or muffins and bring them back to the room. I'd sit on the verandah, read a bit and then shower and by this time I'd have the nerve to wake up my dw and ds who are NOT morning people :)

The morning imho is a wonderful time onboard. Fewer folks around but those that ARE up are friendly, you can chat and there seems to be a kindred spirit that you're not like the sleepy heads that are wasting the best part of the day :)

Cheers,
Grumbo

Does this mean if you don't go through immigration by 7:30 you can't get off in St. Thomas?

From my understanding, EVERYONE must clear the immigration check before ANYONE is allowed off the ship.

Up at 5:30, do a run on deck 4, get coffee cup and a pool towel, head to the upper decks for coffee and watch the sun rise. Call wife on radio and see if she is up. Get coffee, juice and pastry for her. Life is good.

I can confirm that GRUMBO is up with the lark! We met him in Topsiders at breakfast (8.30ish) and he had ALREADY been for a walk on deck AND taken his DW coffee in bed! Now THATS what I call a vacation: a DH who gets you breakfast in bed!Tell Mrs Grumbo to let me have tips on how to train/brainwash hubby!Nat:Pinkbounc

Its all strategy Nat :)
Let her sleep in and perhaps she won't be off the ship as early to go shopping!! :)

Never seems to diminish her desire to shop and ability to hit the stores though :)

Hope we see you next year Nat. Tell Dave I'll even bring you guys coffee and tea as well. I work for tips :)

Cheers,
Grumbo

everyone must clear before anyone can get off the ship. tends to sometimes delay the excursions too.

Yes, everyone must report to immigration, I think they want to done by 7 or 7:30 am, because the first excusions are scheduled for 8 am.

Am checking diary as I type! What an offer! Hey, I could even plan a shopping trip with Mrs Grumbo! Nat:Pinkbounc
