What dining experience would you create for WDW?

One of the best things about Walt Disney World is the variety & quality in food options. You have everything from your standard hot dogs and fries up to Four Diamond Restaurants. Many people who are first time visitors to Walt Disney World do not realize that you could simply make a trip to Disney just to indulge in the unique dining options.

Now with all the different types of dining experiences available at Disney, what would I add? I have two daughters under 11, so they are just about out of the Character Meal phase, but for the past several years, they cannot get enough of these dining experiences. If you are unfamiliar with character meals, simply put most are buffet style eating where various Disney characters will come around to your table and interact with you for a minute or two. Most often it is to sign an autograph book, or just a picture. I have seen characters dance and play with guests during slower times. Kids of all ages love these types of meals, as it is a unique way to get up close and personal with characters that you not otherwise be able to see so close.

So what experience would I create? I noticed that there are very few character meals geared toward boys. The girls have Cinderella‟s Royal Table, Princess Breakfast at Akershus, 1900 Park Fare, etc… Sure places like Chef Mickey‟s and Crystal Palace have characters that are both enjoyed by boys and girls, but I thought about something a bit more geared toward boys.

My initial thought was a Pirates of the Caribbean themed character meal, but that could scare some younger children. Then something clicked….why recreate the wheel here. Disney has just unveiled Toy Story Mania in WDW and Disneyland and are planning on Toy Story 3 in a few years, so why not use that theme. I know at WDW they already have Pizza Planet in Hollywood Studios, with a Toy Story theme. So instead of doing something from scratch, why couldn‟t Disney close down Pizza Planet, and open it up as a Pizza, Pasta, and Salad Toy Story Character themed buffet? I know this isn‟t simply geared toward boys, but it is more so than a Princess breakfast. Most cities have pizza, pasta, and salad type buffets, and WDW doesn‟t. To me I think it would be one of the more popular choices in WDW and something that Disney should look into. What do you think about this idea?

I wish you could dine with the villains....or eat on the Black Pearl!

A fondue restaurant, similiar to the Melting Pot chain. Oh.. and perhaps a Brazillian BBQ as well. We have those up here and they are fun and different!

That is what I was going to say. I love both of these ideas. Of course, if I dine on the Pearl, I need Orlando Bloom at my table. :)

I think a dinner (not buffet-style) with Maleficent, Cruella, Ursula, Captain Hook and the rest of the gang would be awesome. The restaurant should be a little dark inside, maybe look like an old castle and be in Disney Studios. There are not really any good places to eat in Disney Studios - this would be an awesome addition.

A world class Hawaiian Revue to complement some of the already fine talent in the show at Spirit of Aloha! OK, I'm suiting up.:rotfl:

I never understood why they didn't remake Captain Jack's into Captain Jack Sparrow's since it would have made them a fortune, but I suppose they know what they're doing. :)

I have been thinking about the fondue thing as well! Think of the fun we would have dipping Mickey shaped things into chocolate!:lmao: Kind of like an interactive Goofy's Candy Co...
I think Ohana @ Poly is a sort of brazillian bbq style dining experience.

I love your Toy Story character dining experience idea! That would appeal to boys. What about the Mos Eisley Cantina and a Star Wars character meal? :chewy:

For those of you who mentioned that you would like to dine with the villains, I think that it was done randomly some time ago, and it proved too scary for young children. :scared1:

I always thought a Stage Door Canteen at the Studios would be great. I miss the great Sunday brunch they used to have at the Top of the world. So a Sunday brunch somewhere would be nice. Overall just some variety when it comes to their menus, all the menus especially in the resorts seem to be the same.

I would love to see a world-class dining experience in the castle - I love the inside of the castle restaurant. I understand the huge demand for a princess dining experience too, but, all three meals need to be with princesses??

I was coming on to say TOY STORY!!! Jack Sparrow also. I think the boys get the shaft at Disney. :sad2:

All wonderful ideas for boys!

DEFINITELY a Pirates theme would be awesome! The Toy Story idea is great too. Why not do both?!?:thumbsup2

By the way..............they are opening up a great boy themed restaurant coming this late fall. I am SO looking forward to it! :goodvibes "T-Rex Cafe" in Downtown Disney. It is owned by Landrys and will be just like the Rainforest Cafe only "Dinosaurs"!! Everything is Dino themed. It will be located right beside the big McDonalds in DD. Can't wait!

I think the Toy Story idea is fantastic. They definitly need more character meals to appeal to the boys. And with the new toy story ride it would make perfect sense.

1) I think there are plenty of character meals.
2) I would like to see more varied sit-down (TS) eateries.

A villain's character meal is desperately needed. They could name some of the dishes in the buffet after the villains; for instance, Ursula Stew or Captain Hook Cod balls, etc.

Only villain characters aloud.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who giggled while reading 'Captain Hook Cod Balls.' :rotfl: I'm really very mature... sometimes. ;)

Let me expand on the Toy Story idea.

It could be held at either FW Pioneer Hall, yes the same place as HDDR, or the Saloon at MK. It could be a Woody's Roundup Show as in TS2.
