What did WE celebrate? .. 30 days of Disney fun and food! Update 04/02

More updates coming soon!

Anxiously (okay, NOT anxiously) awaiting more updates.

Just saying hello. Max is home sick today and I think I have a touch of it, too, so I've been on a lot today, only to discover that as far as the Dis was concerned, I was not subbed into this thread! :confused3 Glad to hear you had a good time at the waterparks, even if your lunch was less than spectacular!

Tina, sorry to hear Max is sick and that you have a touch of it too. It seems there are a lot of people sick right now. :sad2:

Hi Tina, I am so sad to hear that both, you and Max were sick today! Hope it gets MUCH better real soon!

.... and I am REAL glad you signed on here again! Don't know why but Tom gets "signed out" a lot lately! :confused3

The waterparks were so much fun, even though the food was, well let's say ......... just food, nothing special and I would not really recommend the "grilled italian sandwich"! :lmao:

I had quite a week - class meeting AND school meeting :scared1: There is nothing I hate more! And all of that after a 10 hour day! Thank you very much! :headache:

And now the next hair raising crisis! Since there have been lots of changes at Tom's workplace he wasn't able to put in his vacation request for February until yesterday and now we have learned that he "might" not get the time off, so if you have any spare pixie dust, we can use any we can get "our hands on"!!!! :wizard:
I am still hopeful as there has not been a definite NO yet, I know I am selfish, but I want my February vacation and I want to meet you Tina!

I am working at them right now, Kathy. I had quite a week (take a peek at the answer to Tina's post) and I am SO happy to be back here and finally being able to do what I love to do most (apart from spending my time at Mickey's places!!! ;)).

So stay tuned, a snack  and Rose and Crown to be posted real soon!

Still Day 5, August 18

A snack at the Turtle Shack Pool Bar

Once we were back at OKW we had a few drinks out of the fridge, a little rest and by mid afternoon we decided that we were not done with water fun that day. So we went over to the quiet pool and spend some more time there.

After spending another hour and a half at and in the quiet pool we finished off our water fun with some time in the hot tub (yeah, in the Florida sun! :rotfl2:). Once we were cooked to perfection we needed something to cool us down.

IMG_5731.jpg

A Mickeybar!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately we didn't bring a camera, so the wrapping was everything that we had to take a photo of. (Hm, I could have taken a photo of the chocolate stains on my swimsuit! :rolleyes1 :rotfl:)

IMG_5732.jpg

Tom had some kind of smoothie (fruit, I guess :confused3) which he really enjoyed on the way back to the villa - sorry, just an empty container with a little left over at the bottom.

Price breakdown:
DDP - 24 credits to start with
Turtle shack pool bar .... $ 6,30 (2 snack credits)
TS credits left - 18
CS credits left - 17
Snack credits left 18

Overall money spent on DDP: $ 361,10

Next up - dinner at the Rose and Crown

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Major pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust: on the way for Tom and you.

Thank you, Kathy! I knew I could count on you!

I really hope we will have a chance to go in February. I have checked my options - we could go a few days before the New Year and stay until Jan. 8, BUT this is when Tom gets a lot of New Year's tips and he would lose quite a bit of money that way. Then there is still Easter, but I guess the flight prices will be soarin' then!
So, I am still hoping for February!

Dinner at the Rose and Crown

Once we got back to our villa we took a shower and chilled on the balcony for a while (adult beverage in hand! :lmao:) before it was time again to make our way over to Epcot for our dinner at the Rose and Crown.

IMG_5755.jpg

We had an early reservation at 5.45 and checked in right in time. I asked for an inside table as we had had enough sun and heat for the day. They told us that we might have to wait a "tiny bit" longer and handed us a buzzer. Since we were both a little tired we didn't want to go too far, so we walked down to the lagoon, grabbed a chair and sat in the shade.

IMG_5735.jpg

It took about 15 minutes and the buzzer started to "dance" off the table. We were seated in the Rose and Crown's dining room and were immediately greeted by a very sweet and chatty server.

IMG_5743.jpg

We both ordered our usual Diet Cokes and had a look at the menus. We both decided on ordering an extra drink.

IMG_5738.jpg

Tom ordered a Bass Ale, which he really enjoyed.

IMG_5739.jpg

I ordered an English Rose - Beefeater Gin, Apricot Brandy, Vermouth, Pineapple Juice, Orange Juice and Cranberry Juice served in a souvenir cup. Refreshing and yummy! And you get to keep the "plastic glass". :rotfl2:

We decided to share a starter.

IMG_5740.jpg

We ordered the Yorkshire Dales - Yorkshire pudding served with mushrooms and cream and Toad in a Hole. I just love Yorkshire pudding and they were both so good. One filled with sausage (Toad in a hole) and the other filled with A LOT of yummy mushrooms and a very tasty and creamy sauce with chives in it. I could have eaten a whole lot more of this - it was sooooooo good.

IMG_5742.jpg

Right after she had brought out the starter, our server brought these slightly warm cheese rolls and some butter. We shared one and they were quite good, but we wanted to save some room for the entree and dessert.

IMG_5747.jpg

IMG_5750.jpg

Tom ordered the seafood stew, which was a special and therefore not on the menu. It was packed with seafood and pieces of fish in a very spicy broth and he enjoyed it very much. He dipped his garlic bread in the broth and it tasted just heavenly! :cloud9:

IMG_5745.jpg

I had decided on what I wanted to have, long before we even left for this vacation. I wanted to try the Sunday Roast - with Yorkshire Pudding, Roasted Potatoes, seasonal Vegetable, and Shallot Gravy. Yes, I love Yorkshire Pudding that much, I had if with my starter and my main course! There was lots of roast beef, quite a few very well spiced roasted potatoes and the veg were brussel sprouts with bacon. There even was some mash! It was a HUGE portion and even though I tried hard I was not able to finish my entree! :sad2:

IMG_5752.jpg

We even agreed on the same dessert! Sticky Toffee Pudding, which I really like, but I have to say that I have had better. The pudding itself was a bit dry, the custard tasted like it had come from a packet and the toffee sauce was nothing magical either. I didn't even finish it.
Don't get me wrong, it was a nice dessert, but I it was not like the Sticky Toffee Pudding I remembered from a previous visit and visits to the UK.

After settling the bill the server brought over a clean souvenir glass and we were on our way to explore more of Epcot.

Price breakdown:
DDP - 24 credits to start with
Rose and Crown .... $ 61,10 (2 TS credits)
OOP - $ 28,- (not including tip)
TS credits left - 16
CS credits left - 17
Snack credits left 18

Overall money spent on DDP: $ 422,20

Next up - Canadian cart snacks

What Tom ordered looks delicious. Nothing against your meal, Karin, but I don't like yorkshire pudding (although Mark loves it) and I don't eat mushrooms. I love anything with fish and it just looks so yummy. So glad you got to keep the plastic glass at that price. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

I don't mind that you don't like Yorkshire pudding - MORE for me! :rotfl2:
I fell in love with that stuff during my first visits to England and have it whenever I can ........ lots of fun memories! ;)

You are right about the "glass", :rotfl: and even though we had lots of things to take home, I really brought it home! :rotfl2:
We brought home quite a collection of glasses this year!

I am really trying to plan as many new restaurants for us next trip that I can but I really think R&C is one we are going to have to repeat. We ate there Christmas Day last year and I think the magic of being there Christmas Day was as special for us as the food was good. Seeing your pictures has really convinced me that this must be a repeat in our "sea of new dining choices"!

I'm just now jumping in. I like you review so far because you've gone to a lot of places I've never been. You have me wanting to try The Wave and Rose and Crown now!

I LOVE Yorkshire Pudding too!

Hope Tom can get that time off!

We had not been to Rose and Crown for a long time after they REALLY ticked me off when they were not able to produce a decent cup of tea for dinner. Excuse me - Brits out of tea? Only infusions, no thanks! This time I came armed with my own tea! :rotfl2: (Thank you aunt Friedl, who lives near London and provides me with yummy tea!!)
They did redeem themselves, even though I didn't order tea in the end!

I am jumping on this dust storm...fingers, legs, arms and eyes are crossed for luck!

Thank you, Nicki! I knew I could count on "dust" from you!! We are SO hoping that everything will work out as that February trip is a real treat. It takes us away from the snow and the cold and even though WDW is packed President's week, it is WAY better than having to work (Tom) or sitting home (me - half term holiday)!

When we checked for other options the thing that most ticked me off was, that if we went at another time we would miss you and Mark and little Max. And I WANT TO meet you!!! :goodvibes

:welcome:
It's so nice to have you on board!

Yorkshire Pudding lovers unite! :thumbsup2 We did a lot of "firsts" this trip and a lot of repeats and Rose and Crown really made us two happy bunnies this trip! We really enjoyed it, even if the Sticky Toffee Pudding wasn't the way I remembered it! ;)

Still Day 5, August 18

A Canadian "snack"

Once we had finished our dinner we strolled through World Showcase, and fit in a few rides at Futureworld.

IMG_5764.jpg

We were supposed to go to the Preferred Fireworks Viewing of Illuminations that night, but we just didn't want to stick around until 9pm.
So we decided to pick up a farewell snack and leave Epcot early. We walked over to Canada where we were sure to find a snack for Tom.

IMG_5768.jpg

Yes, I chose a liquid snack :lmao: - it was hot and I needed a drink and I had a lot of snack credits to burn.
We had to pay OOP for Tom's "snack" though!

IMG_5767.jpg

He had a Moosehead. ;) Yip, we consider it a snack and he really enjoyed it!

We finished our drinks leaving Epcot and made our way back to Old Key West.

Price breakdown:
DDP - 24 credits to start with
Canadian snack cart .... $ 2,50 (1 snack credit)
OOP - $ 6,75
TS credits left - 16
CS credits left - 17
Snack credits left 17

Overall money spent on DDP: $ 424,70

Next up - lunch at Lottawatta Lodge

As a Yorkshire gal I heartily approve of your Yorkshire Pudding fixation!:goodvibes

We've never eaten in the Rose and Crown (we go on holiday to get away from English food!!) but your photos look so good - we might have to try it!
