Just curious what restaurants are out there that are not Disney. We will be renting a car for our December trip and will most likely venture off the Disney properties for a day break. Any suggestions?
I would appreciate suggestions also. The Disney restaurants are so crowded and ADR's are so hard to get that for the first time in 15 years I am ready to go offsite for dinner. What are your favorite steak houses? Italian?
Thanks in advance/
We always go to Golden Corral (they have all you can eat Steak on the buffet every night) at Little Lake Bryan (near the new Marriott hotels) in LBV, and TGI Fridays in the Crossroads at LBV Shopping Center- both are less than 5 minutes from WDW on State Road 535

We've found that ADR's are a lifesaver in Orlando. You could easily have a 1 hr. + waits for a table at Red Lobster, Olive Garden, etc. All restaurants in Orlando can get very crowded. Living in this tourist trap called Central & Southwest Florida, we never go anywhere for dinner without a reservation. We're not much for long waits though.
If you just absolutely don't want to be tied down to a reservation, Carrabbas is good Italian. For mid-priced steak, I agree with Outback. They take reservations though. At least, ours does. We also like Remington & Durango, but I don't think they have those in Orlando. Maybe, someone else knows for use. If you want to pay more, there's lots of great steak options in the Orlando area. We always eat on property at WDW or UO, so I'm basing this on restaurants here in Tampa.
Another vote for Dixie Crossroads here.
However, we did have a problem the last time we went. Be aware that rock shrimp have been in VERY short supply lately . If you're craving rock shrimp, ask when you call up to make you reservations. The next time we go, if they're out of rock shrimp, we'll go somewhere else.
Don't know if this is considered authentic Japanese, but we love Kobe's Japanese Steak House. Hibachi Grill style restaurant. Google it for the location closest to where you're staying. The food is terrific and the kids (and adults) will LOVE the show that is put on. I just love having my food cooked in front of me; now that's FRESH.
We've never been to any in Orlando, only in our hometown, but I've heard nothing but positives about the Orlando ones.
I also love Sweet Tomatoes on Kirkman near Universal. It's an amazing salad bar, also has soups, baked white or sweet potatoes, muffins, focaccia pizzas, and pasta and soft serve and fruit for dessert. Priced about $9 at night, drinks extra.
Amura, on Sand Lake Road, near Dr. Phillips. Really, pick a random restaurant on Sand Lake and you cannot go wrong.
I know one or two have mentioned it, but as reasonably priced chain restaurants go, you cannot beat Bahama Breeze. Great food, amazing atmosphere. Can be huge crowds, tho, especially on Friday night.
Another good choice is Pebbles, across the street in Crossroads.
We have two places that are a must for every trip to WDW. Bubbalou's Bodacious BBQ on Kirkman up near Universal has the best BBQ Baby Backribs in the Orlando area. The place is small and you sit at picinic tables. Order at the counter and they bring it to you. We also have to go to Logans Road House on 192 near 417 (east of WDW). They have peanuts at the table and great drinks. The service and steaks are outstanding, and the price is reasonable. They also serve the best hot rolls anywhere.
By no means does Golden Corral have "prime" steak, assume it's probably sirloin tip - but, quite tasty & a real bargin IMO. Our DS's do like to fill up there.
I'm woefully ignorant as to what's available outside of the World...
other than sites @ DTD & Crossroads, anything near the Sheraton Vistana?
We don't want to venturetoo far off the beaten path.
