I returned my rental of In the Garden of Beasts because I didn't start it in enough time to finish it. (Damn school work!) I've now checked out and have started The Book Theif. Wow! I was hooked from the prologue. I'm only on page 60something and I don't want to put it down.

I'm getting back on the waiting list for In the Garden of Beasts so I can actually read it. Then no more books until after I've read The Hunger Games. (I hope my wait on The Hobbit is long since it is next on my to read list.)

I finished "The Telephone Gambit: Chasing Alexander Graham Bell's Secret" for book club on Thursday. I was fascinated by it! Non-fiction, but what a story!!! The moral is, never take anything you learned in history for granted! Fabulous book!!!

Now, I'm trying to finish up "The Clockwork Three", and "A Thread of Grace".

Hi Girl :) That sounds good! Have to go look it up.

I'm going to try the "Postmistress" by Sarah Blake. It's set in the 1040's on Cape Cod.
Sounds like a little mystery.
She firmly believes her job is to deliver and keep people's secrets, to pass along the news of love and sorrow that letters carry. Faithfully she stamps and sends the letters between people such as the newlyweds Emma and Will Fitch, who has gone to London to help out during the Blitz. But one day she slips a letter into her pocket, and leaves it there.

I loved The Book Thief. It is probably one of the best books I have ever read. The narration by death was incredible. This book touched my soul and will stick with me for a long time. I recommend it to anyone.

That was a great book!!!! One of my favorites.

I'm reading Devil's Knot which is about the West Memphis Three, a criminal case I've been following for 12 years. It's keeping me awake at night which is hard to do.

Oh I bet that is very interesting. That case was in the news and just overturned wasn't it? Weren't those three let go? Gut wrenching case.

Ooh I love Real Life Crime novels.

Right now I'm reading Bringing Adam Home. It's the case about John Walsh's son.

It's really heartbreaking as you're reading it and you realize how stupid/stubborn the main investigator was in the case. If it were my kid, I'd be raging with how he handled the case. It's very interesting how the case worked out though.^^

It was not overturned but they were released after serving 17 years.

I gave up real life crime reading years ago because so much of it bothers me but the West Memphis Three bother me so much I can't walk away.

Refresh me. Why were they let go? Insufficient evidence? I too was very bothered by this case.

I usually read crime stories that are loosely based on true cases. I do follow some stories online and read the "crime library" site on occasion. It's mind blowing how cunning and evil people can be. I can only take so much of it at a time.

Today I finished "A Thread of Grace." I liked, but was disturbed by this book. Based on true incidents during WWII, so it was very harsh, at times. However, over all, I would definitely recommend this book.

Now, I've got to finish "The Clockwork Three". This is a book that my 12 year old son recommended to me. Since the only books he's ever expressed any interest in are those by Rick Riordan, I will read this one, so he can talk to me about it. Anything to foster a love of reading in him!

After that, I've got "The Dress Lodger" on tap.

Hey! I was wondering if The Book Thief everybody is talking about is by Markus Zusaki?

I want to give it a try but I got to find it first. Lol

I finished, Hell to Pay, by Wendy Corsi Staub. It's the last installment of her trilogy. Very good thriller series. If you are into mysteries, I highly recommend it. I have read a lot by her and haven't been disappointed once. :)

I still don't know what to read right now besides my required reading of "The Legal Environment of Business: Text and Cases - Ethical, Regulatory, Global and Corporate Issues." Don't be jealous! :lmao:

I'm just so 'hungover' from The Book Thief that I'm not sure where to go next. The Hunger Games? A Harlequin Romance? A thriller/mystery? Any book I read next is going to pale in comparison.

I think I have too many books on my to-read list and I'm overwhelmed now. Does that happen to anyone else?

Yes. I have felt the same way. I usually stick to an author or genre for awhile until I'm ready for something new. I have read a bunch of things outside of my "default mode" because of this thread. And I have a bunch more I'd like to read.

For me what choose to read is kind of like a food mood/craving. :upsidedow

I finished Cutting for Stone and was not overly impressed. Too Dickensian for me. I've moved on to non-fiction - The Secret Gift by Ted Gup. I've just started, but it's an interesting Depression-era story of generosity and hope.

I am currently reading Cutting For Stone. I'm over 100 pages in & I'm still not sure what to think of it. It's very, very wordy. Sometimes too wordy for me.

I get to a new chapter & think, "Ok, I'll give it one more chapter". I'm sure I'll finish the book, but it is taking me quite a while to really get in to it. I had it on my wish list & downloaded it to read after a friend told me it was one of the bet books she's every read. :confused3

The first few chapters were the best. It fell apart for me, after that, but I kept reading hoping he'd get back to the style of the beginning. Too pompous and pretentious for me.
