Just started Stork Raving Mad by Donna Andrews.

I've loved all her books, probably because I'm a birder. I especially loved the one where she and her boyfriend go away for what they hope will be a quiet weekend on an island, only to find it the height of Puffin time, I think it was called "Murder for Puffins", or something like that.

"Manuhunt" by James Swenson-about the escape and capture of JW Booth-written like an adventure novel rather than history - fascinating.

Just finished Phenomenal Girl 5 by A J Menden. Starting World Without End by Ken Follett.

I am reading Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand on my brand new Kindle!! So far, it is really good (only a few chapters in).

karenos;)

I am also reading Unbroken and I am more than halfway thru it. (The hardest part for me to get thru was the actual combat. If you can get thru that, it does pick up)

Hi Rantara!

I want to read that one too. I loved Laura Hillenbrand's previous book, Seabiscuit, and I thought I had ordered that one from Amazon, but I got the audio book instead! I think I'll return it for the regular book.

"Nicholas and Alexandria" by Robert K. Massey

I read that one a long time ago, after I saw the movie. So sad . . .

I just finished Half a Life by Darin Strauss. I heard an exerpt of it on public radio on the show "This American Life" and was intrigued by it.
The author describes how 18 years ago, he accidentally killed a classmate when she was riding her bike and inexplicably swerved right into his approaching car.

I also finished "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot. This is the story of the first "immortal" cell line, the HeLa cells, were first cultured, how they were obtained from an impoverished black woman with cervical cancer, and how it affected her familiy for generations. I thought it was an excellent book, and was glad to see it on several of the "year's best" lists.

I'm just starting "Where Men Win Glory: The Odessey of Pat Tillman" by Jon Krakauer. I've read Krakauer's "Into Thin Air" and enjoyed his writing. I'm also a football fan and have been interested in the sad story of Pat Tillman for a while, and I think that Krakauer will give it a thorough, objective presentation.

This really was a good read. I liked how the author mixed the objective, scientific part with the subjective, family part. It was also good that the science part wasn't too science-y.

Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah - 2 sisters learning to know their mother.

Just started this on my Nook yesterday while in the Ft. Myers airport heading back to reality......lol. So far I'm enjoying it.

I finished The Magician's Assistant. It was good. Nothing earth shattering, but a quick, easy read.

I enjoyed this book.

finished Scandal in the Private series last night, i'm reading through that series while reading other things. Still working on the Dead Tossed Waves as well, I've been back at home for a few days so I haven't had as much time to read :)

Not sure what I'm going to pick up next, I will decide on a book and then change my mind and not feel like reading it, anyone else ever have that problem? ;)

Definately! I go to the thrift store and pick up a number of books for 50 cents and then later wonder why I even picked up some of the books. :rotfl:

Good Omens I love the description of Crawley an angel who did not so much as fall as saunter vaguely downwards :lmao:

The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan. I enjoy his writing and it's nice seeing the characters from the Percy Jackson series visit in minor roles. I am an elementary school teacher so I read a lot of Young Adult and children's books.

Progressing through World Without End. Is it my imagination, or is the writing a bit lower-in-grade than Pillars of the Earth? It isn't "See Dick run," but despite the subject matter, it does seem like the wording used is pretty simple.

I'm less than 100 pages in, but I find it similar to Pillars of the Earth. The only thing I'm having a hard time with is connecting some of the characters to the characters in Pillars.

They make reference to Tom Builder & his stepson (can't remember his name now) but I'm having a hard time making the connection as to who is who at this point.

Just finished the Dexter series and picked up Terminal Freeze, Lincoln Child. . .so far so good.

Me too! Probably 75% of what I read is kids or YA books, but they're so much fun :) Gotta keep up with what the students are into!

Has anyone read anything by Elin Hildebrand? I'm almost done with "Barefoot" and really enjoyed it. If this is typical of her writing, I'd like to read another of her books. Can anyone recommend another?

I've read many of her books, I'd recommend The Beach Club for sure, and The Castaways and Nantucket Nights!

I have to get to the most recent but I LOVED the dexter series!

I am about to start The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson tonight, I've heard great things about the series.
