Right now I'm reading "Barefoot" by Elin Hildebrand. New author for me, I'm realy enjoying it.

I'm getting ready to begin a book that I just came across in the library. It's titled Neverland-J.M. Barrie, the DuMauriers, and the Dark Side of Peter Pan by, Piers Dudgeon.

I was intrigued because I love the book Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier and I just watched the movie Finding Neverland (?) with Johnny Depp playing J.M. Barrie. I had no idea that there was a dark connection between these families.The central characters are J.M. Barrie, George DuMaurier (creator of Svengali and Daphne's grandfather) and Daphne, the secret chronicler of her family's history.

Here are a few excerpts from the inner flap...
Neverland is a true story of genius and possession at a crossroads in time...two suicides, a hundred-year-old family secret, and a resentful interloper with a desire to control the fate of those he loved.

Neverland reveals in horrific detail how Barrie brought his victims to nervous breakdowns, early death, and suicide.

The author worked with Daphne on her book Enchanted Cornwall. When he discovered that she had put a moratorium on publication of her adolescent diaries until 50 years after her death, he was prompted to begin his research into her family's background. The result was Neverland.

Has anyone read this book? It sure sounds good...I'll let you know how it goes.

I just started "1776" by David McCullough. It's for February's book club meeting. I really liked his "John Adams" and I hope this one is as good!

I also have 3 books to pick up at the library tomorrow. "Teacher Man" by Frank McCourts, "On the Beach" by Neil Shute and "The Hungry Tide" by Amitav Ghosh. All 3 are books that came recommended by DIS'ers. I'm finding a lot of good books here on this list!!!

Right now I'm reading "Barefoot" by Elin Hildebrand. New author for me, I'm realy enjoying it.

I went through a phase this past summer where I read probably 3/4 of her books and I liked most of them. I think I liked Barefoot, I really liked The Beach Club, that was probably my favorite!

I started Les Miserables today. I always wanted to read it and figured that I could manage it on my Nook. I've waited to read this until I didn't have to lug around 1200 pages.

I'm reading Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King, I've only read one story in it so far but it's okay. I've only read one of his books before so I'm not sure what to expect.

I'm also reading The Dead Tossed Waves by Carrie Ryan, the sequel to The Forest of Hands and Teeth

I just finished The Emerald Atlas by John Stephens. It comes out in April - I think. It's supposed to be the Next Big Thing but I'm not sure about that. It's about three kids who are shuffled from orphanage to orphanage. Eventually they are sent to a really odd place where they find a book that brings them back and forth in time.

The book was good and it kept me reading but it didn't blow me away. I will read the sequels when they come out as I do feel slightly invested in the characters now!

New book here...Red Hook Road by Ayelet Waldman. I had to wait awhile for it to become available at the library (and they have 10 copies), so I'm hoping it's good.
