January 1998, dd was 18 months old. We, me, dh, ds14, ds13, bil and bilgf, checked out of WDW and into a local Universal area hotel. DD wakes up with a fever. Dh runs across the street to Walgreens, buys a thermometer and some tylenol. Bil & gf takes boys to Universal, we tell them we will try to meet up with them at the Hard Rock for lunch. DD has 103 fever, the tylenol brings it down and we go to meet them. At lunch it is high again, 104, we go to customer service to find out where the nearest hospital is. They ask why, and take us to first aid. First aid takes her temp, and comes up with over 106 (they used wrong thermometer), they give dd some water, call a van service to take us to the nearest urgent care center, they also provided a car seat for dd. When we are done there, they have van bring us back to First aid at Universal. Universal gives us comp tickets for the day we lost, and was going to drive us back to our hotel, but drove us to our car instead. Universal was GREAT, and we didn't ask for anything. DD was fine by the way..she just had a virus, but she runs high fevers.
Dec 2001, me, dh, dd5, ds8 months, older ds's didn't go. I wake up pink eye on NYDay. Fun time trying to find a doctor. We do eventually get to a urgent care and get me on meds.
Dec xmas 2003, me, dh, dd7, ds 2 1/2, mil, fil, bil, bil gf. All in one rented house. Bilgf flies down and is sick(bad cold), fil then gets sick (cold ear infection). NYE day, we are lunching in Mexico, mil is hold ds while I eat, he wasn't eating. I took him from her, and he is HOT. DH and I go to first aid, and DS has 103...yeah...fun times. We call insurance and try to find peds on list, but no one is open. We call our ped and he tells us to give motrin and tylenol as needed. We catch up with inlaws on line at customer service trying to get comp tickets, they want to leave the park, the park is PACKED. MIL is in the middle of the line which is outside the doors a ways. I look at the line, look at baby and say I am not standing on this line. I had to cancel dinner for all of us or get charged since it was a holiday. I leave stroller with mil, and walk inside, dh is looking at me like I am nuts. I wait for a CM to be finished, and say excuse me, I know there is a line, but I have an infant with 103 fever, we just left fist aid, and I need to cancel our dinner reservations for tonite. He looks at me, and says, yeah, hwere is the baby. I point out the door to mil, standing with stroller. He says ok, and helps me. I try to get him to comp our tickets, but he says no. We leave our passes with bil and go to get car. Btw, bil did get us all comps for the day.
DS did get better, but then dd got sick and we had to cancel Princess Breakfast and Cindy's Dinner. DD was so bummed, she had a beautiful Cindy costume with her.
Kids got better, but fil didn't. He wound up with a really bad ear infection, and they said he could fly, but he shouldn't have. He still has problems with it to this day.
Oh, yeah, did I say I went to WDW with ALL MY IN-LAWS in ONE HOUSE!! OY!!!
Ok, last trip August 2005. Me, DH, dd9, ds4. Packed thermometer, tylenol, motrin, all dd's meds, all ds's meds. Printed out all the Peds in the area. Flight down, ds refuses to suck his lollypop, airs hurt, gets really upset, and gets horrible asthma attack. Spent next day Monday looking at ped to call down there. We call our ped first, and she was great, she called in all the meds we needed. We did have to drive to 2 different Walgreens to get them. Now we spent the next 10 days fighting with a 4 year old to take this icky tasting medicine, and his new inhalers (2 - 3 times a day). And we had to carry all this stuff with us. Needless to say we were not always on time for what we did. But the kids did wind up having a great time. DD and I...umm...let's say we aren't going to WDW for a bit.
If you do get sick in Orlando...Urgent Care centers are the way to go.
