What are the WORST things that have happened to you at Disney/Orlando?

Bad things from trips I have taken:

September 1981: Took a guided tour trip to Disney. Disney was fun (though hot). Having to tour the Donald Duck Orange Juice factory…not so much fun. Cypress Gardens in 100 degree heat? Torturous to a kid.

Dec-Jan 1986: We were there for New Year’s eve, and NOONE would go to the parks with me! Everyone said they were too tired. HELLO! It’s New Year’s Eve! I was too young to go to the parks by myself, so I missed the celebrations. Thankfully we had a lagoon view room so I could at least watch the fireworks from our balcony while everyone else snored.

March 1996: Two things happened on this trip. My dh planned to propose on this trip, but the engagement ring he had made was not ready before the start of the trip. He arranged to have it shipped to the hotel. When it arrived, the hotel refused the package, claming he was not a registered guest. They sent it back to the post office. Once DH found out, he tried picking it up at the PO, but they were closed. No proposal that trip.

The second thing that happened on this trip is that we got stuck! A huge blizzard came in at home so we could not fly back when we were supposed to. Unfortunately, spring break was starting and there were no hotel rooms anywhere! After racing up and down intl drive, chasing other people also looking for rooms, we finally got the last room in a Red Roof Inn in Kissimmee. The heat was broken and they could not move us to another room.

October 2004: One of our friends who came with us suffered a heart attack the day after we came home. Luckily he survived.

December 2004: Got bronchitis on the trip.

November 2005: Fell at the hotel and hit my head. Had to go to urgent care and check to see if I had broken my eye socket (thankfully no). Had a terrible black eye, both above and below, with bruises out to my temple. Note that this happened on the second day of the trip, so I had to walk around for the rest of the week looking like an idiot. DH was terrified that someone would think that he hit me.

December 2005: Came home with a bad cough, which was eventually diagnosed as double lung pneumonia.

My parents and my niece (4 years old) came with us in Nov./2000. On our first day there we decided to visit DTD. The kids loved Lego Land so we stopped for a long while to let them play. My kids were 2 and 5. I was busy keeping up with my 2 year old and my mom "forgot" she was in charge of my niece. Suddenly, we realized we didn't see her anywhere! Talk about the panic! I just kept thinking "How are we going to tell her mother that we lost her in Disney World????"

My mom ran in to ask a CM for help, but no one else seemed concerned. We were screaming her name over and over. Finally a CM calmly walked over to this big toy tire and there was my niece, just sitting inside of it. :rolleyes1
I guess there a quite a few kids in the past that "hid" in that tire. All of this happened in a matter of a few minutes, but it seemed like eternity.

Of course, we laugh now at how we "lost" her and how difficult (but managable) it was going to be to enjoy the rest of our trip without her. She's 9 now and just sarcastically laughs back at us.

9 MORE DAYS TO GO!!!! (oh, and she's coming again. I told everyone that we're staying away from Lego Land :bitelip:

I can relate so much:

We were at DTD 2004 my DW and BIL and SIL went shopping, while I stayed with my DD5 and DD2. We were having fun walking side by side and DD5 stops at the caroussel to take a look, I turned around and saw her so I stopped. DD2 kept walking, I did not realize it, for 5 seconds. I figure she was behind us. The longest minute of my life, here I am by myself with the 5 year old crying because her sister is lost, in my arms running around asking anybody if they had seen my baby. Meanwhile DW sees me running and thinks I am playing around. I ask a CM and he said "no have not seen her, but by the way have you seen a little boy so and so..." Am like, Are you crazy? so I find the rest of the gang and we all go in different directions trying to find her, by this time DD5 leave to try to find her sister. No one notice this. So BIL finds DD2 by the jumping water, while a couple was watching her, making sure no one took her since they figured she was lost. So he brings her over. We all start hugging and kissing her as we realize DD5 is not there. So DW stays with the baby while everyone else goes searching for DD5. I am glad to report we found her right by the Caroussell asking everybody and anybody if they had seen her sister, in her mind she was not lost she was looking for her sister.

I have got to tell you this event was about three minutes long but it seem like three hours. I felt like the worst DAD in the whole world. When I think of my baby, and what could have happened, It kills me inside.

FOR GOODNESS SAKE STOP GOING TO WDW............ :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Well, my husband and I went to DisneyWorld last December--our first trip together and our first vacation in 5 years. It was supposed to be a once in a lifetime thing. Well the first 5 days were great, wonderful, magical--then I spent the next five days in the hospital at Celebration throwing up violently and often. I feel so guilty for messing up our trip!!! I don't know how I'm going to make it up to my husband who was such a dear...He said it didn't matter, but it mattered to me! I hope to go again someday and avoid the hospital on any future trips.

A year ago yesterday, we were at WDW when I learned that my BIL had died. The management at ASMu took excellent care of us, in ways that I never expected. I wish I knew how to send a link to my post "How Disney handled a difficult situation". I think it should be known to all, how kind and considerate Disney was, as my would was crashing in on me. It's interesting that all of these things happened in WDW and were taken care of by WDW. When one stays on site, we are really cared for. It's wonderful.

Here ya go: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=748531

The first worst thing that happened to me was that on our honeymoon trip to WD we had a video cam but never recorded the trip. I wanted to make memories by recording every year and playing back the previous year, the first night we go down there again. I did however get the anniversery trip but unfortunatly I never took it into WD, I will this year.

The second thing, if your going to typhoon lagoon wear slippers or something, or wait to d othat at the end of the trip, my feet felt like they were broken in a hundred peices by the end of the day, and I have tough feet, but the cement kills when you walk on it barefoot for 6 hours. The rest of the week it felt horrible, walking around disney and sea world were like a nightmare b/c I was excited being there but I had to deal with broken like feet every step I took.
I cant wait till Oct.

Had to be our 2003 trip..........

We went to the 9:45 Hoop-D-Doo show at Fort Wilderness. A friend of my husband was at WDW at the same time and his sister got us discounted tickets for the show (she could only get the discount at the late show). We went and really enjoyed the show. Once we got back to CB, of course we went directly to bed. At 2:30 my son threw up fried chicken and strawberry shortcake; of course, he did not make it to the bathroom. I had not thought of the fact that if my son eats a meal after 8:00 at night, he throws up. We don't know why, but it just does not sit well on is stomach. I cleaned up most of it, and we left a note for mousekeeping the next morning. Needless to say, they were great and got an extra tip!! ;)

Next, my son had a split at the base of his ear from taking his football helmet off and on. By the fourth day of our 7 day trip, he had a dry, itchy, scaley rash behind his ear going up his head. We thought it was just dry skin and I put lotion on it, which helped. On days five-seven, we thought it was poison ivy and spent the day not touching anything he touched or scrubbing our hands if we did. Turns out, it was infentigo!! (found out at dr office after we got back). :confused3

Then, on the morning of our next to last day, we were on the bus going to the MK. My DS threw up all over me and him. It was just sinus crud, but it was all over us. Luckily, some nice people beside us had a plastic baggy and wipes. They were parents and did not get too grossed out!! When the bus arrived at MK, the driver asked us if we were NOT getting off to go to MK. We told her no, we were going back to change. Duh!!! Yea, like we are going to walk around with sinus crud all over us all day!!!

Of course, we still had a magical time, just had to deal with some un-magical real life situations!!!! Patience and Pixie Dust pixiedust: can fix anything!!

I know, it is terrible, isn't it? My family jokes that I am allergic to Disney. Oh well, I am going back anyway! Who knows what will happen next time!

In 2003, my then 15 month old son fell off the bed while animal watching in our room at AKL and had to be rushed to Celebration hospital for a possible fracture. Turned out -- after 7 hours in the waiting room -- he was fine.

Disney folks were awesome. They took great care of us, even sending a Disney van to pick us up from the hospital in the middle of the night and return us to AKL.

My top came down on the Mine Ride and I did not know it till my kids were pointing and laughingm, as we exited the venue. How I got past the CM's will forever be a mystery. My poor husband covered me quick while I made adjustments and I slunk back to the hotel to stew in humilation the rest of the day. I will NEVER AGAIN wear a top with a built in shelf bra. NEVER.

The emergency rooms in Orlando are the worst experience of my life. While at our resort we dediced to rent a convertable to drive to tampa the next day to see friends. On the way back from the airport I was suddenly violently ill. I was throwing up every few minutes for hours. I had to stop at a gas station like every mile on the way to the hosplital. My sister wanted to call 911! Anyways, I finally make it to the Er and I wait for 7 HOURS in the waiting room to be seen. I has the worst stomach bug of my life and I had to stay the night in the ER. Not only was it my worst expience it was also my sons, my sisters and my parents worst experience. My son was only 8 months old and still nursing so for 12 hours we both went cold turkey on nursing!!

Wow! These are some sad stories!

My honeymoon was at WDW. It was my first trip in 8 years and I was so excited! Unfortunately it was by far my worst trip.

My parents told me they had rented us a "suite" at the airport hotel for our wedding night. Great! The "suite" turned out to be a teeny tiny room with a double bed. Not a good kick-off to my honeymoon.

Three weeks prior to my honeymoon I came down with a UTI. I took antibiotics but I had a really tough time getting rid of it. I thought I had finally defeated it by the wedding. On the plane ride down I felt that familiar burning sensation in my bladder. :( Yep, it came back! My poor DH was basically shut down during that entire week because I was in too much pain. I think this is why he is not as crazy about Disney as I am. ;)

Also, I had convinced myself that June in Orlando wouldn't be that hot. It was 95 and humid that whole trip. My dh hates the heat and was miserable. I got sun-poisoning by the third day.

Sept 01

Got to the airport ok. Loaded the plane ok. Then captain comes on and states maintenance needed to do some work on the plane. Sit tight, it should only take 20 minutes. 30 minutes later, flight cancelled and make the run up to ticketing to see how else to get to MCO.

Transfer to different airline. Get there only 1 hour late since this flight is non stop. Pick up luggage and go to hotel.

Need to unpack a few things. Open small suitcase. HMMM where's the lock I put on it? (pre 9/11) Open suitcase......not mine. Oh oh. Call airline. "Bring it in the morning"

Get up early and go to airport. Can't find my suitcase. Oh, finally it's in the office of our original airline. It had all my make up and everything. I looked like crap, but went to IOA anyway.

Next 3 days rain every day. Day 4 go to Kennedy Space center. Got there when they opened and got in line for the first tour. Tour operator comes over and tells us all tours are postponed.

We ask "What happened?" "Well it appears that the Pentagon has been bombed." WHAT!?!?!?!?!?! Yes it was 9/11 and we were at a government military installation.

We are scheduled to go on a Disney cruise on 9/12. Not sure if it will sail. Stay in Orlando and watch news as Disney, Universal and everything else closes.

Call DCL in morning. Yep, they're gonna sail. 1/2 the ship could not make it since airports are closed. Have to go around a tropical storm and didn't think we would make it back into Port Canaveral on time.

Came home the day the airports opened. That was actually the easiest part of the trip.

We call it the trip to remember.

Oh my....sounds like Iritis - painful in itself, but compounded by tropical sunlight! I'm curious...how long did it last and did she get treatment?

Worse thing that happened to me was finding I had an allergy called "concrete dermatitis". We sat on the pavement in front of World Showcase Lagoon to watch Illuminations. The next morning when I work up, every part of my legs that had contact with the cement had hideous red blotches. I went to the First Aid station in Epcot and got my diagnosis. (Seems it's not all that uncommon). No pain at all, but my legs looked like I had leprosy! I had to wear long pants the rest of the week! UGH.

The very next trip I had an accident in the wave pool at TL. I was in knee high water when a young boy was being rolled/tossed to shore by a wave...knocked me down on the way and pushed us both along the pool bottom. The skin was shaved off on the side of my calf pretty badly. Wound up with lots of bandages that needed to be changed often during the rest of the trip. It hurt too! I'm VERY careful not to be in anyone's path at TL nowadays!
Sounds like you have some experience with iritis. I was diagnosed with it 18 months ago. Yes, you are correct- :sunny: equals ouch.

I have read a lot of horrible things, but if that was me, I would want to die, not to mention my kids. :scared1:

that happened to me once in college! not at WDW thank heavens, but on main street in the city where i grew up, i was racing a friend down the street and my tube top couldn't keep up  i never wore it again.

Some that are funny now.

Last year, we stayed offsite, DH and I walked out to the Walgreens down the street for some snacks, and I fell off a curb and destroyed my ankle. Sent him back to the Walgreens to buy me a cane. ;)

Not the worst ever, but funny- Mousekeeping walked in on a boyfriend and I while we were, um, occupied.

That one was pretty much the trip from hell, it was a relationship that was completely falling apart, I was recuperating from surgery a few weeks before, had discovered that I was horribly allergic to something or other in Florida, so I was cracked out on Benadryl, exhausted, generally run down and basically a walking zombie. It rained the whole trip straight, the guy didn't want to do the parks as much as I wanted to, so we left with I think two days unused tickets on a 4 day length-of-stay pass, and it was freezing cold when we did bother to go out. And did I mention, it was also my birthday? Yeah, good times! ;) :sad1:

And last, but not least, a few weeks ago I'd gone down to try for Who Wants to Be A Millionaire, got up at 3 AM, got lost on the Boardwalk (don't ask me how, I'm talented that way), froze my butt off, got my number picked, and then got disqualified because I'd brought my pay stub as proof of Social Security number, only to discover in a moment of horror that my employer took our SS numbers off and I had nothing on me with my SS number at all. (I've been a victim of ID theft so I never, ever carry my card...I should have broken the rule just this once!) I was so shocked and disappointed that I freaked out and burst into tears on the spot.

Then I got escorted out of the park. I know they have to do it because of the show rules, but I'm sure the folks in the park must have thought that I was being kicked out for having done something wrong, how often do you see a crying girl being escorted out of MGM by Security?!? Yeah, that wasn't a great day either, come to think of it!

I've had a lot of fun at the parks too, though, so it all balances out!

My kids are too young, six and eight, to be humilated by it. They think it's the funniest thing in the world and tell strangers the story. I am starting to think about carrying duct tape around for those ocassions. ;D

The 2 worst things that happened to us were:
1) Our first trip we booked thru hotels.com and were supposed to be staying at a condo resort type community place... gated, lake/etc. type amenities, backyard pool, you name it. This was a Christmas holiday trip and our first... we drove (bad idea- won't do that again) and arrived midday Christmas eve... to find out that hotels.com had overbooked the condo and we had no place to go. Hours of stressing out before hotels.com finally got us a "place"- which ended up being like an apt type place.. no backyard pool, no amenities that were extensive at the place we'd booked (and paid highly for), the place was kinda scary and kinda nasty (scary= front door damaged and come to find out the place had been robbed recently... nasty= there was fecal matter in the master bathroom's tub), no VCR's with the tvs, etc.
Worst thing was that we had no other place to go on Christmas eve so we dealt with it and hotels.com does NOT have any guarantee... afterwards they were like well you stayed there... and they said it cost the same so we would receive no refund.. they only offered $100 off our next trip planned with them (like that would ever happen? NOT!) but it was so NOT what we paid for and it's not our fault that the price was jacked up just because it was Christmas eve or something. No way this place should have cost over $200 a night that we'd paid. We didn't let it ruin our trip though. (but vowed to let others know of our experience with hotels.com- and I'm doing so right now too. LOL)

2) Our youngest daughter had her first haircut at MK barber shop and since on that day DH had taken the oldest to DQ and I took just the youngest over to MK to get her haircut... I didn't want to carry much and only took the regular camera (not the digi camera, camcorder, etc.) Unfortunately I had run out of film so I bought some as we went by the lockers (at the desk under the train station) and took the pictures with that. Everything was great... I just knew I was going to have the best pictures of the trip... pictures to commemorate our daughter's first haircut and the only one to do so at MK.
NONE of the pictures developed from that roll of film nor the other two rolls of film (It was a pkg of 3 rolls I'd purchased there). I'm not sure why- and I ended up losing a lot of other pictures too (like of my eldest daughter's birthday party shortly after our WDW trip, but fortunately my sister took digi pictures for that). I contacted WDW and they refunded me the money spent on that pkg of film- but there's no way to replace the pictures lost of her first haircut there. :(

That's about it... not too bad I guess.
