What are the WORST things that have happened to you at Disney/Orlando?

We didn't let it ruin our trip though. (but vowed to let others know of our experience with hotels.com- and I'm doing so right now too. LOL)

Oh yeah! We had a similar experience with hotels.com-we will never use them again.

DH & I went to WDW in June 2004 with lots of family--my parents, sister, brother in law, nephew, in laws, sister and brother in law and their 2 kids. First of all-- I will NEVER travel with all these people... just too big of a group. My MIL is a picky eater, so when I made ADRs for Hoop de Doo, I asked that she get a hamburger. They told me to call a few days in advance, so I passed this info on to DH and in laws. So there we are at the show, when my MIL asks for the burger and the waiter says they don't have any-- so everyone looks at me-- and I said "I told you that you had to call a few days in advance". My DH's family all mumbled that I never said that. Luckily they found a stupid burger...

AND the day before this, I was running in the parking lot of DTD to catch a photo-long story- when I tripped and fell. THe top of my foot blew up and turned all sorts of colors immediately. The disney paramedics told me that I shouldn't waste my time at the ER b/c it wasn't broken. So I spent the rest of my trip constantly bandaging and icing my SWOLLEN foot... (At least I was pushed in a WC and we didn't have to wait on many lines!) When I got home, I went to the podiatrist. Turns out I tore a ligament in my foot... nothing I can do but wear this silly boot for a month or so...

Not to mention the "Wally World" vacation, as my dad calls it, when I was a kid... we went through 3 hotel rooms and 3 rental cars... what a nightmare!

.......our worst was with one of the bus drivers that transport you to and from the parks. It was mid day and we were leaving the MK to go back to the Pop and take a dip, rest up and get ready for a late night. There were only about 7 to 10 people on the bus. The driver began to fall asleep and drift of the rode. Some of the people began to make loud noises to keep him alert, they even tried to talk to him ( with little response). As soon as I got off the bus I went straight to the front desk and notified them. The CM got on the phone immediatley and called the transporation center and gave them the bus number and drivers name that I told them. It was really scary. It has never happened again......and hopefully will stay that way.

What could be worse than getting dumped at Disney World?

Two things happened to my DS11 on our last trip...

Two days before the trip, he used some cologne body spray that made him break out in hives! He spent the first evening snoring beside us at Illuminations because of all the Benadryl we had to pump into him (did I mention he HATES pills??). The crowning glory of this ordeal was that my DH had NOTICED DS was itching the night before, saw the hives and DIDN'T MENTION IT! :furious:

DS recovers from the hives and all is well until the night we leave Orlando. Our flight from Sanford to Syracuse is delayed for about 5 hours. DS insists he's not hungry when the airline gives us food vouchers to use at the airport. We later discover that DS has been taking hits off the giant pixie stick he made at MK three days earlier (the one we thought he had finished, since DD had finished hers) so he doesn't feel hungry -- and has nothing but sugar and water in his stomach. Finally on the flight home DS complains to me that his stomach hurts. We give him some crackers but at this point there's little to do but to get him home and to bed. We save the sick bags from our seats just in case.

Driving home from the airport it's now almost 5 am. Did I tell you DS also is prone to car sickness? A block from our house, DS vomits all over the backseat. The sick bag is in his hand but for whatever reason he decides it's going to be quicker to unbuckle his seatbelt, open his car window and lean out. Weeeell, it wasn't. The bag went unscathed.

Of course, he's sitting behind me. Luckily I was not hit! I come to a screeching halt in the middle of the road... of course DH reminds me to keep going since we ARE on our street now. We reach the house and spent the next half hour cleaning the vomit out of the car. What an end!

Well DH had a lovely experience
For a few days of our trip he said his stomach always felt full. Was losing steam as the days went on.But being Disney lovers we forged ahead.
We were walking over the bridge fromTomorrowland. He leans over the railing looks back at me and BOOM.He passes out.I have to say Cast members and mgmt were there is a flash. He would come to them out again. He ended up at the hospital with a stomach FULL of blood. He was in the hospital for 2 full days. and 2 scope procedures.Don't ever get sick in Fla the hospitals are very slow to discharge.Oh if your from out of state they call the room wanting $400 before they let you out.
So that is our saga ,when ever we go or friends go we stop at the ledges of the infamous episode.DH doesn't see the humor...we do :)

I guess the worst trip we ever had was our last trip when DS had a huge grand mal seizure and had to be ambulanced to Celebration Hospital. He was Ok but we spent quite a bit of time in the hospital and we didnt get to use our AP's. Of course DH and I understood but the other kids really were good about it but very very disappointed that the vacation wasnt so good. We had gotten the AP's in hope we would use them for another trip that year...nope. Oh well.

I've only heard terrible things about the hospitals in ORL. Actually when my sister cracked her head open on the side of the pool and had a gash the size of a quarter, the EMT's and Disney CM near by recommended we go to a clinic near by rather than the hospital. We were really skeptical at first, but the clinic turned out to be really nice, the people were helpful, it was very clean, and it didn't take long at all! If you're in the same situation where you need stitches or something that can be treated in a clinic setting, I reccomend this place! :thumbsup2

This thread was about "worst" and while I do understand that while we all have different opinions and experiences, I disagree with the notion that one should never get sick in Florida.

It is a total bummer if anyone in your party is sick or injured enough to need medical attention on vacation - that's a given.

But I do need to let anyone who ever has these worst things happen that my experience at Celebration Health was far superior to anything at ANY NY hospital. In the 20 days my DH was there, they were extremely competent, compassionate, supportive and responsive to every need at the speed of light. The issue of money was never ever brought up at any time. The place was like a hotel. All of this went a long way during an extremely difficult time.

I admit also that the way they deal with the usual vacation injuries - stitches, URI's, sunpoisoning, etc, may indeed be different than what I experienced, since DH was in REALLY bad shape.

My point is that even though the unthinkable occurred, I was in the very best place in the World at that time. The care was absolutely extraordinary for not only DH, but also each and every family member.

melomouse

Lets see...it happened in 2003 at the Downtown Disney Market Place next to the Lego store. We were walking next to the lake, quietly enjoying the sights when this mother duck and her 4 babies came up out of the water to cross the sidewalk. Of course we all separated and made room for her to cross, they were so cute! next thing we know, WHOOSH, on baby gone! a hawk had taken advantage of the opening to swipe a duckling! we were all in shock! poor mother duck! I think all of us were more in shock then she was though...she just gathered up her kids and went back to the lake. I think I actually saw people crying!

Worst thing that happened at Disney? We had to leave! :rotfl:

Just kidding.

All of our experiences have pretty much been wonderful....nothing's really sticking out in my mind right now...

I must say we have been very blessed to have had wonderful times at Disney and my short story does not compare to some of truly sad stories here.

January 2004--DS had his kidney transplant September 2003 and our trip was to celebrate life at WDW. Our doctor at home decided that while we were there, he wanted us to get lab work (we were only going to be there a week, but I understand his vigilence). Anyway, our hospital *assured me* that arrangements had been made for transportation to and from WDW to Celebration Hospital for the lab work. Well, they were WRONG. I tried to call a cab--wait would be over 2 hours. Lab work had to occur at a certain time and we only had 1/2 an hour before and after the actual time that we could get labs done. I called the Renal Nurse back in St. Louis, but she couldn't help me. I KNEW if we didn't get these labs, something awful was going to be wrong and it would be MY FAULT because I didn't ensure the labs got drawn. I called the front desk at ASMo frantically trying to find another way to Celebration Hospital. They were SO nice and helpful and had one of their guys take us there in a WDW van. When we were done, we called him and he came back and picked us up.

So although it was very stressful and scary, WDW handled it SO well and tried to do everything they could to calm me. I made sure to give the driver a HUGE tip and I wrote to WDW to tell them how wonderfully this was handled.

Last June at the airport returning home 7pm flight out rain storm kept us from boarding untill about 9:30, we get boarded on the plane the captain comes on and tells us Philly has put us on a 2 hour delay. Finnally got off after 12.10am.

1st trip to Orlando getting lost on the way fom MCO to I Drive hotel spent 3 hours searching.

4th trip getting locked out of our offsite vacation home and the sheriff turning up.

Losing DD in a crowd at AK.

1) My Dniece12 went with us. Her first trip away from family. She took her fanny pack off in the bathroom at MGM and of course, left it behind. By the time we went back, it was long gone and never did turn up in lost and found.

2) My DD6 coming down with severe bronchitis-type illness during her birthday trip. One night of constant coughing (so hard she would vomit) - I felt bad for the people in the hotel room next to us. Off to the clinic the next day, where even though it was very slow, we spent 3+ hours. She held up like a trooper, though, and carried on with her trip, through fever and coughing and lots of Motrin. Once we got meds from the clinic it got better and by the time we got home she was feeling great!

3) DH got food poisoning from Garden Grill and spent the entire evening/night in the bathroom (both ends). He "cowboyed up" and made the trip to the parks with us the next day but couldn't eat anything for almost the whole next day. Could have been worse. Kids didn't eat flank steak so they didn't get sick. I had a small amount and had a problem with stomach cramps and nausea, but nothing like hubby.

I feel funny listing these because it's obvious others have had life-altering bad things happening. My heart goes out to all of you.

Being evacuated from CBR for Hurricane Floyd. Although Floyd didn't hit we did spend the night in the Yacht Clubs Convention Center sleeping in beach chairs. Plus there was a symphony of snoring.

spending at least 40 minutes in line, every single day, to get on the bus when park closes (Value Resort), while witnessing people at moderate or higher end resorts wait no more than 15 minutes.
