What are the parents thinking?

Why would a child get it for that purpose? I think it's more of a rebellious temporary phase...I still dont see anything wrong with it. I think if you are looking at an 11 year old and thinking she got it for that purpose, you are the one with the problems LOL

Soooo.....11 year olds in a "rebellious temporary phase" can cut holes in their bodies?

Niiiiice

I come in contact with adults with tongue piercings and I can't understand a word they are saying....but it's a green light for an 11 year old in your book?

Not too many of us are reading your book.........

Actually a tongue piercing is the piercing most prone to cause REAL problems... Infections are very common (let's see... open sore in the middle of your tongue, which isn't the cleanest environment). Also, the stud rubs against the teeth and wears the enamel right off, causing dental problems.

So, I gotta go with the people who think this child's parents are idiots.

Most people here had the same thing come to mind. Why draw attention, negative attention to a child like that. The child most likely (hopefully) doesn't understand what people will think; and that is what parents are for, guiding you into making good decisions. But the sad thing is, in today's world there are children that young participating in unsafe and adult activities.

where do you live

Somewhere that used to be the boonies but now is filled with transplants from (mainly) NYC. I do live in one of the "harder" areas of the region, but this goes on all over!

It's temporary. I think it's disgusting personally but I dont see it as being a sexual reference at all...maybe that is what some people think of when they see it, but again, if you are thinking that way about an 11 year old, you got bigger issues.

Ick.
I don't know where you live, OP, but in our state, a legitimate piercing establishment can't pierce 'em until they're older than that anyway. So I'd be wondering how she got that piercing....

I see - maybe I'm a prude it's just not what I thought and hopefully she didn't either when I saw tongue piercing.

OMG, I live in what was known as the boonies and now is filled with NYC transplants . There was a rumor going around about a 6th grade girl in our district (not school) that was pregnant. I never heard the truth. Sometimes I wish I could keep my dd locked up in her room :rolleyes1

Oh you absolutely get them for sexual reasons. And no WAY would I allow my girls to get one and if they came home with one I would remove it for them and then I would see to it the place it was done was shut down. I have a 21 y.o. DD as well, she was NOT allowed to have any piercings other than ears until she was 18. For her 18th bday she wanted a piercing, I paid for it, it was her tongue. Fine, she's 18, but not before. My 2 younger girls know that's the house rule and there's NO way around it. Ears are fine, anywhere in the ears, but no where else on the body gets pierced until after they turn 18.
To the PP who said they can't understand anything people are saying, you might be surprised. My DBF had his tongue pierced for 2 years before his parents noticed, and they only noticed because he stuck his tongue out at me and forgot they didn't know yet. LOL And yes, we see them regularly, sometimes too regularly! LOL He had his in for about 5 years, he just took it out not too long ago.
And to confirm, I'm not opposed to piercings, I've my cartiledge, my tragus, my ears twice and my belly button pierced. And I have a tattoo on my lower back and am designed another one. :) Oh and I let my girls color their hair, they love bright colored streaks! :)

Where are you, NJ or PA? Just kidding. We've got Philly transplants too but the majority are NYCers from the Bronx, Queens, or Brooklyn.

Funny how people can pick out what they want and dont want to hear, or read.

I say I have come in contact with people with tongue piercings and I can't understand what they are saying and it becomes, "they can't understand anything people are saying".

The most "COMMON" place I run into people with multiple piercings and tattoos are when they are bagging my groceries or washing my car. Sure, there are exceptions, but that's where I run into these folks the MOST.

I never see a guy with a face like a tamborine sitting behind the desk at my bank.

I'm 60.. I have no idea what you people are talking about..:lmao:
