What are the discounts offered when you check in at a DVC resort?

I have rented points for OKW for a week in September. I called to verify the reservation and to see if we could get dining plan (which... we can't :sad2: ) and while on the phone, the CM mentioned that we will have great discounts available to us upon check-in such as 20% off dining at certain restaurants that she said change periodically so no way of knowing where until we get there. I have also heard about deals on tickets through DVC resorts.

My question: IS this really available to me even though I'm renting, not an owner. AND... what kind of deals can we expect? Should we NOT buy our tickets ahead of time in hopes of saving money when we get there? (we'll be wanting a 6 or 7 day pass and one day at Typhoon Lagoon).

Thanks!! :flower:

You could always buy a Disney Dining Experience card and get 20% on most restaurants for up to 10 people at each seating. The restaurants that give the DVC discount have been asking for a membership card recently, and some will not give the DVC discount to any other than the card holders. We had this happen with guests staying with us last year.

The only ticket discount right now is off of the price of an annual pass. You would not be eligible for that discount. So, I would recommend getting your theme park tickets ahead of time. We do get something like $4 off of the price of single day admission to the water parks, so you could consider that in lieu of a Plus ticket. But I have a feeling the Plus will still be more economical.

As Diane said, DVC is really starting to stress that members need to present our blue membership ID in order to obtain perks offered. You will not have that. What you likely will have is a room key that says "DVC Member" on it. That appears on all of the keys of people staying on points--members, renters, guests, etc. For some places seeing that room key will be enough. Others will want to see the membership ID card. I guess it doesn't hurt to show your room key and see if they will give you a discount on that basis alone.

Regarding the DDE, it is open to all FL residents and Annual Passholders. If you buy an AP, you can get the DDE for $50. It gives you 20% off all charges at a long list of WDW establishments. As long as you spend $250 on food and drink over the course of your trip, you'll break even on the DDE purchase.

When DH and I stayed at SSR in July and BWV in January, we werre asked for our DVC membership IDs several times when we asked for discounts.

If you called Member Services, that is why you got the spiel about discounts. The CM probably thought you were the member since you are supposed to be a member to use the number. The discounts are for members and their guests staying with them. Renters are technically not entitled to DVC discounts.
