What a nightmare!

Last night I dreamt that Disney took 414 points out of my account for our upcoming trip- a studio at VWL for ten days in January! (I don't even have 414 points! )

But I woke up with this horrible feeling, so I'm posting this question, knowing that the DIS-DVC veterans will be able to answer it.

Does DVC indicate anywhere at anytime how many points you've used and what your balance is?

I get the idea that you get some sort of check-out paper from them at the end of your stay, I'm assuming detailing charges made to your room, but does THAT indicate how many points you've used?

Is REQUESTING a record of my account the ONLY way that Disney will ever notify me of my balance?

How do you keep "official" records of your points?

(and as much as I'd like to download Caskbill's program, I'm a mac user, so I can't:( )

Thanks!

Annie T.

Remember.....it was only a dream!
You can call MS and get your point balance. The 'formal' ledger sheet is virtualy impossible to read, so I wouldn't request one of those.

Good luck, and next time dream that MS added points to your account.......

They don't give you any point balances on your check-out. The checkout list of charges looks just like a regular WDW resort, there's no mention of points.

I always make a habit of confirming my point balances when I call member services to make a reservation. I wish they would put the balance on your reservation paper so you would have it in writing.

I keep a simple excel spreadsheet of my points by use year. I also have a column for rack rate to remind me how much I've saved! With my trip last month, my rack rate total for 6 trips is just a little more than my total purchase price (excluding dues).

I like that idea!

I always track my totals and clarify them with MS whenever I make a ressie. This usually avoids a mistake.

I wrote a visual basic program to keep track of my points. Anyone can download it for free from my web site. I know there are other point tracking programs out there too. They all are pretty good for different reasons....I, of course, prefer mine.

Here is the link to my webpage:

An Excel Spread sheet works too. Good luck with whatever you decide!

To the person that emailed me (Rob), I cannot return mail to that email address. I don't know why. But, when I can, I can send you a copy of the program. It does work with XP, that's what I have. You should only have to download the first version, that's all I needed to download.

Thanks

Before I contact MS, I make sure to calculate my new points balances for each resort. MS always tells me the new balances whenever we do any sort of transaction, so it's a good check. In addition, I request a points utilization statement be faxed to me. That gives me the totals in writing, so if anything changes, I have documentation to support me. (Occasionally I suggest to MS that they could make a simpler statement, but that hasn't helped so far.)

I've never had a points issue yet, but if I ever do, I'll be prepared! ;)

On this same note, does anyone have a good Excel spreadsheet for tracking points they'd care to share? I was making one last night, but was having trouble deciding what to put on it, and how I wanted to set it up.

Can I request a copy of the Excel sheet also. I have downloaded the other software, but for now it is like the shotgun and fly approach. I just want to keep it simple and figure Excel would do fine.

I just emailed MS with our point status and what I deemed it to be. It's hard to keep track of the 2 contracts. Actually I was double checking that they were using the correct points from the correct contract for the right use years.

So I emailed MS every detail to my knowledge. (Ie.. checking in on yadda yadda, checking out yadda yadda, using a total of whatever points).

They responded that I was correct.

NOW I HAVE IT IN WRITING!!!!!!!

Just in case!

Maybe someday DVC will do like my other timeshares do. When I get my confirmation letter it states the date of my trip with total people and type of accomodation, the room/cabin number, the points used for the reservation, and the total points remaining in my account. I can see why they would not like to give the room number out since they give you the room key before the room is ready and make you call for the number, but the rest of this info should be easy to do.
