What’s on your Thanksgiving menu

The sauce is basically a Bechamel sauce and can be made in advance. I make a similar version of the recipe you posted excepting the cheeses are different, I use whole milk, I butter the casserole dish and it doesn't call for smoked paprika which sounds like a divine addition to me!

Per Andre Soltner:
Advance preparation: You can make a béchamel up to a day ahead of using it. Keep in the refrigerator. If you lay a sheet of plastic or wax paper directly on the top, there is less chance that a skin will form. If it does, whisk vigorously when you reheat the béchamel and the sauce should be as smooth as it was when you made it. Thin out if necessary with milk or stock.

Since you are adding cheese to the bechamel, re-heat over a double boiler and whisk vigorously to re incorporate. Or just add all the ingredients of the sauce in advance, except the cheese, and refrigerate. When you re heat add the cheese and no double boiler is needed.

Duly noted for later use <3 Though when I say it's an undertaking what I mean is I work nine hours the day before on my feet so I tend to go things I can just throw in the oven. Hubs chops the potatoes/sweetpotatoes/garlic/onion/mushroom and I turn things while they roast :3 Then we can both lay back and watch Disney movies

I made a béchamel tonight for our au gratin potatoes. :) Super simple!

Just the hubs and I usually so it will be smol (His family is up north and mine does appetizers with us the day before or after because I usually work on Thursday.)
1 Turkey breast done in herbed brine
smashed potatoes
roasted sweet potatoes
green bean not-casserole (No soup, instead I caramelize onions and mushrooms then roast them with green beans and diced garlic.)
I'm also lobbying for something with cheese. I love this mac recipe but making the sauce is an undertaking so maybe broccoli gratin.
Are you in health care? The one thing I never took into consideration when becoming a nurse was working holidays.

If previous years are any indication it will be

Turkey
Stuffing/Dressing
Mashed Potatoes
Gravy
Broccoli or Salad
Rolls
Cranberry Sauce (Ocean Spray "jelly" from a can)

DH and I are going to his sister's house for Thanksgiving.

She said she's serving turkey and ham, but made no mention of the side dishes.

I asked if I could bring anything, but she declined. Hmmm, I get the distinct impression that she's not particularly fond of my world famous noodle salad.

This is my first Thanksgiving with my husband's family, and I've been informed the menu is:

turkey & gravy
mashed potatoes
sweet potatoes
green bean casserole
stuffing
corn
rolls

That's pretty much exactly what my side of the family has always had. I volunteered to bring some hot appetizers—pigs in a blanket, spinach and artichoke bites and potato skins. All from scratch—as much as pigs in a blanket can be, anyway!

I spent a few years with a friend's family for Thanksgiving and they always had a roast beef in addition because one of the sisters didn't like turkey. I'd love to add that to my table when eventually it's my turn to host—as well as mac and cheese! I've never known anyone else in the northeast who served it with Thanksgiving but have come across posters on the Dis and other areas of the internet who have and I love the idea!!
