What’s for Dinner Tonight?

making chicken pot pie - I'd love your recipe for chicken pot pie soup
Making chicken pot pie? 😋. The soup just makes the taste last longer😎

This is a base recipe that’s easy to adapt. I always use a bag of mixed veggies in it but often add mushrooms, leeks-whatever is on hand. As well if you’ve no cream available you can use equal amts of sour cream or even mix half of it with milk. Dill can be added to the soup or bisquits. Have fun with it:

Made some noodle stir fry using the velvetized chicken, asparagus, carrots, fine chopped collard greens and shiitake mushrooms. Added some leftover tofu just to use it up. The chicky came out quite tender so glad that worked out.
Eating some vanilla gelato with Italian sugared ginger. Saw the ginger when I planned to replace the Armarena wild cherries and decided to try it instead; good choice and maybe next time I’ll pour some Calvados on top.

I just looked at the grocery store sales flyers for next week. Nothing much on sale... duckling is cheaper, per pound, than ground beef. I can't even begin to figure out that one. I'm feeding 4 adults and a growing boy and it's getting pretty depressing.

Supper tonight is the chicken stew/biscuits (might turn into chicken and dumplings) that we were supposed to have last night. It'll be a good, filling, comforting meal after a long, cold day.

Roasting a bone-in turkey breast today that I will use leftovers for some soup this week and some turkey and rice for my in-laws tomorrow. I'll vacuum seal and freeze the rest of the leftovers for future and make some stock with the bones tomorrow to stash in the freezer as well.

One person’s ☹️ is another one’s 😋.

Duck on the Lunar New Year’s menu on this end; would love to find it on sale, lol.
Still, you’re right: looks like the freezer meat sales of January are winding down.

Oh no, I'm very happy that duck is affordable- it's on the menu this week as a nod to the New Year- and it'll cost me twice as much to feed us duck as for a big meatloaf, but still crazy that, per pound, duck is cheaper than hamburger!

ETA: Frozen duckling is $3.49 a pound, 75% hamburg is $4.99 a pound.
