Can anyone recommend a good company that offers private or semi private for a family of four?

1. How long was the tour?
2. Cost?
3. Tips?
4. Transfers?

Thanks,

They do but you have to charter the whole boat which is very expensive. That's why I looking for other companies.

We booked with Rum Runner Charters - we'll be taking our excursion in about 12 days so I can't tell you how it went yet. It's for 2.5 hours and the cost for the 5 of us (2 adults and 3 children) is $649 + $32.45 tax. We chose them over Harv and Marvs because it was a little less expensive and not quite as long of a tour so we have a little more time for seeing Juneau. They'll pick us up at the port and also drop us off at Mendenhall.

I had this same issue and have decided to whale watch in vancouver (better chance of orcas) better price and then gives us more flexibility in juneau!

We went with Captain Larry from Orca Enterprises twice - http://www.orcaenterprises.com/. Loved it! We walked from the ship to their offices in town (just a few minutes) and they brought us to the boat. Children are welcome. And we saw many whales, eagles, seals, etc. We had plenty of time to go on the tramway, stop for something to eat, and some shopping. Another time we did the whale watching and an excursion with Temsco Helicopters....so lots of time to do what else you want.

We used Weather Permitting. https://www.weatherpermittingalaska.com

They had taxis pick us up from the ship and drop us at the bay where we went out on their cabin cruiser. It was phenomenal. The excursion was 3 hours. Afterwards we had the option of being dropped off at Mendenhall Glacier and then be picked up again when we were ready (no time limit) and taken back to the ship, if we desired. We actually got dropped off near the port so we could go to Tracy's Crab Shack for a snack.

We used Dolpin Jet Boat Tours. https://dolphintours.com We were a group of 11 with kids and although I could've gone with H&M, I decided against because they were more expensive with a 1 month cancel policy that I wasn't comfortable with. With Dolphin Jet, we were in a boat with a total of 5 other people besides our group so it felt practically like our own private boat.

I also wanted to spend more time at Mendenhall Glacier. We had a little over an hour there, as opposed to the 15 min. only with H&M. Our group enjoyed this time to hike to Nugget Falls and take stunning glacier/waterfall pics. Our tour also included access to the Visitor's Center.

I liked Dolphin Jet. The only negative though was I would've preferred closer access to the whales, as I felt our boat captain wasn't as proactive in going TOWARDS the whales, as some other boats I saw. But we did see many whales, I just didn't get the awesome whale tail pic I've always dreamt about getting.

We were on the Scania last September with Captain Alan. http://www.whalewatchingjuneau.com/ We had a great time. It is a small boat.. The maximum they will take is 9. I don't remember the price, but it was very reasonable. (More than one of the boats that holds 40-50, but much more enjoyable.) Check them out on trip advisor. They picked us up at the dock.

If we are every blessed to get back to Juneau, you can bet we will use them again.
