So... I know where they CAN stay, but I'm curious about what others would do...

We are booked for 10 nights at BWV in August 2023. My sister and family will be at FW with their camper. We plan to do some things together - likely some meals and maybe a waterpark, but are otherwise vacationing 'in parallel'. My parents have decided to come! My sister's youngest has never been to Disney, so I think my parents will definitely want to experience some firsts with her which will be important.

Where would you suggest my parents stay? If my sister was staying at a 'traditional' resort I would have definitely suggested my parents get a room there so it is easiest to meet up with my sister. But, she's not, so open to all ideas!!!

Would you do that for 2 people? I thought the cabins were for families.

If they want to stay close to your sister's family, the cabins are a good option. For 2 people, the cabin will feel kind of like a "suite" with a bedroom and living room area. It will also price out less than any of the resorts nearby. If they would rather be in a resort (interior hallways, easily accessible dining options and transportation), I would do a room at WL or a studio at CCV or BRV. They would then have a bus that can take them from WL to Ft. W, but it won't be as convenient as just staying at Ft. W.

They could price out the cabins at fort wilderness.
Plus the grand child(s) could stay a night or two with their grandparents. Win-Win, especially for mom & dad if they need some 'alone' time.

I'd also ask your parents what they want. Do they want access to food options, deluxe, moderate, etc.? How mobile are they? Also hooking up with family members will always take time and planning, even if they stay at FW Cabins. And even at any resort, the grand children can always stay overnight with them as desired. The kids might like a change up.

I think a FtW cabin is a fabulous idea. The fully-equipped kitchen and outdoor grill could be great for a whole-family cookout some night as well as stocking grandkids' favorite snacks.

We've considered one of those for just us two because we love the extra space the separate bedroom gives, particularly since DH needs space to park and charge his powerchair. And, I often wake up and can't get back to sleep in the middle of the night. Being able to go to the living room/kitchen to read or watch tv so as not to wake DH is another bonus of that much space.

The WL/FtW area is soooooo peaceful after a hectic day in the parks, too.

We just got back from a three night stay at a cabin in FW. LOVED IT, but get a golf cart.

Start with what is available for your dates. Then it depends on your parents, you need to have a convo with them about their desires, expectations and budget. For instance, my parents would be EXTREMELY unhappy if I was in a hotel room with indoor halls and they had to drive a golf cart in order to reach their room.

There are tons of resort tour videos on YouTube that give a good sense of what rooms/cabins are like.

Suggesting your parents watch some of those might help them decide what resort they'd most enjoy.

The cabins are fabulous for two-ish people. They're not super up-to-date fancy, but they're charming and comfortable.

There were four of us. Two of our daughters, our niece and I were very comfortable. I gave the girls the bedroom with the bunkbeds and the main bed. I have the pullout.

Had a recent stay with my crew of four in a FW cabin. I'd be in heaven if it were just two of us... we felt on top of each other with four. Check pictures to make sure you know what you're getting... the bedroom has a Queen pushed up against the wall and a bunk bed. The bed against the wall may not be ideal for two adults depending on your preferences.

We enjoyed our stay and I adore FW, but you’re staying there for the Fort and being close to family, definitely not for the quality of the cabins.

Agree on the golf cart, very important.

Where would your parents like to stay? How do they envision spending their vacation? How does your sister envision spending her vacation?

My parents are elderly. They would not enjoy a cabin at FW. They would, however, want to stick to us 24/7 while on a Disney vacation. Is your sister on board with your parents being as close to her family as possible? Or is this time meant to be (mostly) for her nuclear family to have time together? I ask because you’re going to see her sometimes but sounds like most of the time will be in parallel (ie separate).

If being close but separate is the goal, I agree on the cabins. Wilderness Lodge is gorgeous, but not as convenient as a cabin. You would need to take the bus from WL to the Fort, then continue on the internal bus to the stop at the kids/grandkids loop. Then walk to their site. With a cabin, you could rent the optional golf cart and zip around the campground from point A to point B, cabin to campsite with ease. Also, there''s golf cart parking at the Outpost bus Depot as well as the settlement where the marina is (boat to MK).
Seriously though, to each their own. Enjoy whatever they decide.

If we were in that position the deciding factor would probably be convenience. We'd try to have everyone in the least number of locations. We would choose to put them either in a cabin with sis, or, in BWV or BW with us. I'm sure my parents would choose hotel over cabin.
