Well, not really, but that's what we told the kids.

We're actually going to Disneyworld!!!

We postponed our trip at Christmas due to health problems. We're still not finished with the problems, but we really need a break, so we planned a last minute trip.

DH has had a lot of business trips lately, so we told the kids that we were going to go to Kentucky with Daddy. We told them that we would be changing planes in Orlando, and that we were sorry that we didn't have time to go to Disney this year, but maybe they'd see a palm tree out the window. What can I say, they're six years old and "gullible" runs in the family.:rotfl2:

I don't know when we'll actually tell them. I'm leaning towards when the plane lands in Orlando. I'd be happy to hear any suggestions. We don't leave until the 7th, so I have a little while to figure it out. I'm so excited!:cool1:  :cool1:

I would be excited, too. And it would be really hard for me to keep that secret. Hope you have a great time. :)

oh, that is so awesome! I'd play it by ear..when you get on ME, they might catch on... maybe not:rolleyes1 but I'm sure when they see the big sign over the road... they might figure it out :rotfl2: I'd probably have to just let them figure it out on their own! Watch their reaction!! When we drove under the big arch over the road my ds said..."now THAT looks familiar":rotfl: :rotfl2: good luck and enjoy your trip!!!:woohoo:

So....How excited are they about KY? It's really not so bad here, I promise. Of course, I'd rather be at WDW too.

They're actually really excited about Kentucky. They've never gone on a business trip with their daddy before , so they think it's really cool. I have no clue what kind of accent people from Kentucky have, but DD is practicing her southern accent and wants to know how people from Kentucky talk. There have been a lot of Ya'all's around our house lately.:rotfl2:

I've actually had to downplay it a little. I've told them that we are just going to spend family time, but that daddy will be busy and they will have lots of homework to do. I said we might be able to swim in the hotel pool once or twice. I don't want to get to MCO and have two kids crying because they're not going to Kentucky!:lmao:

Two years ago, we told the kids (both 9 at the time) we were going on a business trip with DH to Kansas City. I told them we could swim in the hotel pool while he was gone and find other things to do. (About a year before this, I read them trip reports about kids being surprised and asked them if they would ever want to be surprised and they said yes. Just mentioning that because on the surprise threads, it seems that there is always someone who thinks it's cruel to surprise kids.)

The morning we were to leave, we woke the kids up and DH said "You know, I don't think I really want to go to Kansas City. Let's just go to Disney World instead."
The kids were half asleep and thought he was joking. At the top of the stairs I had placed a sign that said "That's right" and at the bottom, a sign that said "You're going to" and in the dining room a sign that read "Disney World" with gift bags with information about the trip, disposable cameras, Disney dollars, etc below it. They were pretty excited once they got over the shock and realized that we were really going, that it wasn't just a joke.

I had actually thought about using the plane changing thing in Orlando, but I wasn't sure I could pull that off - I thought they might see Orlando as the destination on their boarding passes or some airline employee would make a comment about them going to Disney World. Considering your kids are only six, you'd probably have a good chance of getting away with it. I'm sure your kids will be thrilled by their surprise, even though it's not Kentucky!
