Well, it is official, Junior is diabetic. :( They are going to try controlling it with diet, and he'll go back in 6 weeks. If that isn't working, they will try meds. He will have to test his blood every morning. Its going to be hard adjusting food-wise, but we'll get the hang of it soon, I hope.

Thanks for all the good thoughts.

Sherry,

I feel your pain having been diagnosed just before Christmas myself. Here are a couple of things that I have been doing that seem to help keep the numbers down.......walk, walk and walk some more. It does not have to be at any great pace, but walking is sure helping with my blood glucose numbers and get some cinnamon pills. 1000 mg a day is the reccomended dosage for people with diabetes. I got mine at GNC and take 2 right before bed every night. Walmart I hear also has them quite a bit cheaper....or if Junior can stand to eat 1/2 teaspoon a cinnamon a day, he can do that as well. I like cinnamon, but not 1/2 teaspoon worth every day  Adjusting food is difficult for sure...and waking up to stick yourself is less than fun, but don't despair. At least he is at a point where he may be able to control it with diet and exercise.....I did not get that lucky. Good luck with everything. There is also a board hosted by the American Diabetes Association that is great for answering just about any question you may have. That is where I found the cinnamon info. Good luck, and if you need to vent, PM me.....I just might understand. This came as a HUGE blow to me as well.

Take care of you...and take care of Junior too.....you guys will get control of this and things will be alright. :goodvibes

Gack, how could I have forgotten!!!

:bday: Happy Birthday Sherry!!!! :bday:

My brother did just send me this though, and I thought it was hilarious!

Kid spending a year (and $100k) at Disney World before college A 19-year-old entrepreneur is blowing $100,000 out of his savings on spending a year at Walt Disney World before going away to college. "Jupelo" is the alias of a young man who flies to Disney for six days every week, stays in Disney hotel, and goes to parks and resorts every day, all day. I dreamt of doing this all the time when I was younger. He's living the dream, and documenting the hell out of it, taking pictures and running a daily visit-log.

Goal 1: Spend an entire year at Walt Disney World and record every second of it for you to see.

Goal 2: Begin building the world's largest Disney collection (there's more to this - see below).

Goal 3: Not go insane.

Hi all.....

JR Karen - how nice that you are re-connecting with your cousins. My situation is similar - I only have 2 first cousins. They have lived in Ohio their entire lives - we always wrote letters and exchanged Christmas gifts but they never visited (seems as though their mother did not want my Uncle to cisit his family) - once their mother passed they have been coming out here to visit with my uncle/godfather every summer - so we too have re-connected as adults and enjoy our time together.

Elaine - I am wondering where a 19 yr old gets $100,000 ....and if he needs someone to take notes on his adventure - hahaha!!

Sherry - I'm no help with advice but sending good thoughts your way and happy birthday wishes as well.

Liz, John, Kimmie, Tara, Nancy, Beth

Pam - feel better soon!! :flower3:

Well - I bought new tires yesterday (thanks to my Christmas bonus) - not without issue of course - "something " (I'm so technical) was frozen so they could not do the full alignment as this was just a tire store - have to call the mechanic today.
Have not heard from Alyssa yet - can't wait to hear how Broadway was!!

Dealing with resolving some Chris issues today - please keep a good thought for us.....

Happy Birthday Sherry!

I hope Junior adjusts with diet and exercise; my father was able to.

Karen, congrats on finding your cousins and getting along.
Of course, down here we meet cousins at family reunions for dating purposes, but that may be closer than you want. :)

:bday: Happy Birthday Sherry!!!! :bday: :cake:

Sorry the news wasn't better for Junior.
I hope the diet and exercise will work.

Hey gang,

I've been lurking this morning! Can't get myself to post today! I guess I'm not feeling talkative!! hehehe

Sherry...I'm sorry to hear about the diabetes. Hopefully it has been caught soon enough that you all will be able to get a good handle on it. It's tough but I'm sure you all will get through it with flying colors. Happy birthday Sherry!! Make your family pamper you today!!

Liz...I'm sorry that yours went straight to the meds :( Everything my mom and I have read says that people probably had the diabetes for up to 10 years before they are ever diagnosed! For mom it was a little longer b/c the first imbecille of a doctor told her that her strange symptoms were all in her head adn that she needed a shrink instead!! ******* doctor!! Please take care of yourself...mom has the diabetic neuropothy (can't spell the dang thing...the nerves in her legs aren't firing right and now she loses her balance and she can't feel her feet. its really rough around our house now!)

Alan...I was :rotfl: thinking about a funeral/viewing with Jimmy Buffett playing and hawaiian shirts. That to me sounds like what a viewing should be...remembering who the person was/is! Sorry to hear about your friends though. that's rough. As for the party...don't have any ideas for you...although I think you would look cute in a "minnie" skirt on a horse with someone walking you in a circle!! just be sure to take pictures for us!

Elaine...so how is Luis? Was he feeling bad or just didn't feel like running this morning? We also have warm weather right now and it is heavenly. I even had my sun roof open a bit yesterday!! Probably means we will get a blizzard in february!!

Kimmar...glad your husband is doing well. How is school going?? Oh, and did your sammy ever lose the pink color she turned (I think it was something with a skunk)?

Nancy...I was trying to tell my students about the rain you all have had and so I told them about the rust and they just looked at me like I had lost my mind! I thought it was funny!

Paula...doesn't it always seem to work that way. YOu take the dang car to the place for an easy task and then it turns into a giant ordeal! (well, actually I think my entire life is an ordeal!! hehehe) Good luck with Chris. (I just accidently typed Christmas! oh duh!!)

Beth...where ya been??? I thought you were going to have more time to play. Have you seen all the new Disney stickers that go with the characters (peter pan [speaking of which, did we chase him away too??], Jungle book, alice in wonderland, etc) I found them in the store where I'm going again tomorrow night. Michael's didn't have them so I can't use my gift card for them :( I also looked at the scraping disboard site and found a scrap book site that has all of them and a few others. I may be placing an order from them since there are some sticker pages that I haven't seen anywhere else (chip and dale is the one that comes to mind.)

Todd and Amanda...I thought about you all yesterday at the counselors office. I picked up a Highlights magazine and they had a story about caves and they mentioned a cave that I think you had posted pictures about. Of course now the name escapes me. But anyway, I was wondering how you all were doing!!

JRKaren...neat about meeting up with your cousins. That's pretty cool. Although I wouldn't go down the cousin route that Alan does....I think that would be a little yucky!! (at least knowing my cousins it would be :teeth: )

Karen...how is the new patch doing?? Are you feeling any better? How are your ODD kids?

Suzanne...next time you go to wdw would you see if they have any 2005 scrapbooks left? I need to get another one (I see the one I have overflowing and I haven't even started it yet!!)

John...how goes things in your neck o the woods?? Are you all utilizing the heated sidewalks that are in the wrong places?? or is it still too warm for them?

I'm beginning to think my caffine has kicked in!! I was going to tell you all about our appt with the counselor yesterday but I think I've said enough for one post. IF you are still reading...then bless you...you must need to find a hobby!! hehehe

hugs,t
ara

I don't think the boards could be any slower for me right now if they tried

Paula, I'd love to know too! On his site he claims to have money from three businesses... makes me wonder. but he has a cool webcam on his site that you get to see WDW through!

So Alan, were you not good enough for your own family? :)

For someone so not talkative you did very well Tara :p Luis is fine. He just wasn't in the mood to run. Which was fine by me. I kind of like it when he is home longer in the morning. But if I had to pick (which he let me) I'll take mornings running over him being later at night!

Funny you should mention them because I walked on the specially constructed heated sidewalk between buildings just a couple of days ago (even though it was in the 40's outside). That particular sidewalk is out of the way and it is much easier to cut across the parking lot. I will never understand why the company went to the expense of putting in a heated (and textured) sidewalk that NOBODY uses. And why they only heated a portion of the remaining new sidewalks. The part that I walk on is unheated and they have to put tons of salt on it to keep it from being slippery. Duh. I guess that it just further proves the Peter Principle.

Thanks for asking. So far, no slips or falls this year. My two year anniversary is coming up next month.

Nah, they knew me and my folks too well to even consider it.

No non-relatives liked me either.

I had to finally find some blind girl to date me. I told her I was someone else for the first several dates.

:rotfl:

You are so bad though!

John, that doesn't make much sense at all to me either... silly the way people think I guess

In a "dont wanna do anything" mood today... maybe I'll stay that way for the rest of the day

And speaking of not doing anything...

I'm leaving for the day and will take off tomorrow as well. Since Monday is a holiday, I will see y'all Tuesday (unless I happen online over the weekend)

Enjoy!

Thanks for the b-day wishes. :) We just got back from dinner. And I had McD's for lunch, so no cooking today! :teeth:

Liz, thanks so much for that info. I'll check out that site, too. Hope all is going well with you. :)

Glad you didn't have to cook today, Sherry :)

Leaving really early in the morning for a girlfriends' day.

Still raining....day 25. And a monster storm is coming
Hope everyone has a good Friday.

Evening all, been enjoying the quiet now that the kids are asleep!

We had the inlaws for dinner...first time they've been to my place as guests for dinner. Manicotti, Lasagna (the rogue manicotti pasta), and eggplant parm. We all got stuffed-I don't even want my strawberries right now.

Tara, last time I was at the world, the 2005 stuff was half price. If I don't see any in my travels, I'll let you know. Check out www.disneydeals.com-they may have 2005 stuff already. I am topper shopping this Sunday, and anyone else who needs me to pick up stuff, let me know. Mammoth Cave?

Nancy, you know, there's a comfy couch here if you decide you've had too much rain. Gotta love the jet stream because it blows most rain through pretty quick.

Sherry, hope the bday was a happy one! I'm learning about cooking for a diabetic, too, have to keep SIL in mind when we have them over.

Paula, good vibes to Chris.

John, I know all about the peter principle-the action my company took after I broke my wrist was pretty interesting. Wow how time flies, I didn't realize it had been two years.

Karen, cool about the cousins. I've got cousins I've never met!

Got two honor roll boys...well Neil's report card doesn't expressly say it (because the lovely teacher didn't feel he deserved it), but honor roll in our schools is purely on academics, and he got 2A's, a B+, 4 B's and a C. I let the boys pick out a book each at Borders today as a reward. Just say "Borders" and they go nuts, lol.

Thinking I'm going to head to bed early tonight...

disneydeals is pretty much wiped out right now..
They only have 9 items listed.
Hopefully all that older 2005 and Christmas stuff will find its way there soon....or maybe I am better off if it doesn't

Good night.

No time for a proper "ketchup"....just wanted to know if anybody else had as much problem as I did navigating on the DIS.....:badpc:
