Liz! Just reading your side of it, the first question that c omes to my mind is WHY is Greg not the one dealing with this? They are, after all in his SIL's own words "Greg's neices." It seems as if you are unnecessarily being made the 'bad guy' here...

Can you discuss with Greg your side of the story--your finances, your time and heck, let's be selfish,YOUR preferences-- and have him take it up with pushy SIL?

Bottom line -I don't like that you're feeling bullied...but in the interest of family peace maybe you could tell SIL the whole thing's been cancelled and then just go when you want .

The reason Greg is not dealig with this....is because he WON"T....she has played the (insert whatever circumstance fits here) card all her married life and he has become intolerant of her little "fits". I am just trying to be the voice of reason in this situation. I too am starting to think I may not be the one to DEAL with this either. I love the girls as if they were my own, but their mother makes it very difficult to spend time with them.....and then there is the guilt that is so wonderfully dispalyed for the things we have not done for them.....I think this is just one very big vicious circle. Oh, to add to things, here is the funny part!! Yes, there is humor in this. Greg and his brother both HATE confrontation....Michele and I, at times thrive on it!!! Greg and Randy will not dicuss or stand up for themselves or eachother. They both just kind of squirm. At times, like this, I just have to chuckle!!!! I am not gonna let this one bother me as I sit back "fondly" remembering 2 years ago. We were not talked to for 8 months by Michele because we were 5 minutes late for a dance recital and messed up her seating plan. I kid you not!! Then we saw them at Great America two months later, which was 2 hours away from home and Michele turned her nose up, grabbed the girls by the hand and walked away from us after we had said hi to them . I did feel bad for Randy, because he felt like a schmuck!! I feel better now. Thanks for letting me vent!! I am thinking we will be taking our trip when we want now!!! I am not getting bullied!!! And Greg can deal with his brother on this one!!!!

I'll catch up later, but I saw Liz' issue here. I'll make this short and sweet. Do you think the neices will be very heart broken if you don't go? My point with that is if they won't be hurt by it, who gives a flip what their mom says. I am sure that anyone who says, I am so sorry I will miss you by a week, but we already made our plans for my birthday. Sounds totally reasonable to me. Ignore the SIL, book your flights and forget about it! I am sure your neices are lovely but you and your family (you and Greg) do come 1st! Not that I am not a family person, but sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.

Liz-You go girl! That's the 'tude! Don't let others dictate to you and do what you "feel" is the right thing. I deal with the same type of family "junk" and I am always worried about how everyone else is gonna feel, think, etc.... I'm tired of it and
I'm trying to learn to deal with things differently but, it's difficult.
We were disowned from DH's family for over a year because of something "I" said. Thinking back now it was actually the best thing that could have happened. The only one I felt bad for was my DS and I felt sorry for his grandparents that they let themselves miss out on a year of his life.

No seriously...this happens with my dad's family ALL the time. His sisters and SIL's are constantly bad mouthing each other b/c they didn't send a card, or attend a function...yadda yadda yadda....none of the kids mind. They get plenty of attention and recognition for what they've done.

Liz she sounds like a major b. She needs to understand she cannot bully people around just to get her way. I would call the the girl (s)and tell them how proud you are of them but you just cannot make it this time. Of course your sil will not be happy but Im sure the girls are aware of their moms behavior by now. Gregs poor db--how did he end up with that one??
If it helps any tell her you are meeting friends at Disney and they cannot change their plans.

Happy belated bday Sherry, Congrats on being so mothy Elaine, PD to Amanda and Todd, Liz glad foot is improving take it easy, recipes sound way too difficult for me, books are expensive..yuck..but anniversary surprise sounds good, inventory used to be fun...now I don't get to do it cuz the day people do all the fun stuff, direct tv..what is it? hehehe finally upgraded to digital cable, that's all this mind can think of for ketchup.
Oh, one more...Liz..take your trip, and tell them too darn bad. Thankgoodness my family doesn't get into that kind of stuff. Heck for Christmas my mom said, "I'm cooking dinner, its at 5, if you want to come great if you can't that's okay too." Worked beautifully!!

Wanted to hop in yesterday but was busy at work dealing with a parent issue...I hate being a teacher when parents are the primary disability for a child. Unfortunately it's going to get worse before it can, or will, get better.

Had bowling last night and had some funny comments from one of the old men (I say old because he has to be pushing 70+ years old), I threw my ball turned around and walked back and he said, "He Tara, I'm gonna have to make you some counter weights for your backside so you don't fall on your face!" I laughed, I didn't get offended. Heck I didn't even get offended wehn he compared me to one of the subs he used to be stationed on, "You remind me of one of my old subs, heavy in the aft, heavy in the (don't remember the word but it meant the middle), and heavy in the fore. That sub sunk like a rock it was so heavy!" I laughed and told him that I was very happy with my "heavy" fore and aft as it was teh only time I could eat what I want and not worry about it!! Several people thought I should have been offended but i wasn't I considered the source, who when I first started bowling and saw that I didn't have a wedding ring on and I had a child, thought it was terrible that a guy would let such a thing happen!!

Anyway, I came home with a migrane and got up with it this morning. I have not had this many bad headaches in years. I have a med that I take but I had to quit it because it was making me sick now that I'm preggers. I may have to try it again and see if it will work better, b/c two migraines in 15 days is not a good way to go. I can usually work when my head hurts but this was the kind that light and sound both made me sick. It was all i could do to get Jar to school so I could come back home and sleep. I finally feel better, but my brain feels bruised.

off to check someother threads and look for any good fights. Have a good evening all!

Oh I was so excited to hear that SWA had finally opened up their schedule from May 8 til sometime in June. So I head over to check out the fares and they are only booking through June 11 we needed to have the 12th. We were going to leave Sunday may 30 and return Saturday June 12 but I cant book the 12th. On the good side fares are cheaper if we leave Saturday the 29th so I may be getting 1 extra day

he has to work...somebody has to pay the bills you know...(yeah, I have heard that a lot lately). But in all seriousness, the day after works out just fine because I will celebrate it then anyway!!! Just for the record, I always celebrate my birthday when in the World....I can't help it. Flights out on the evening of the 17th are pretty well booked and he would get in really late. No sense in spending a good part of the evening on a crowded plane to crash at Disney. Leaving Thursday, he gets a gret price on a ticket and an early start and I am assuming a less crowded plane. Me and my mom can meet him at the airport...and them we will be off and running through the parks. Besides, my ressies will be in my mom's name, so she is gonna have to check us in!! There really is a meathod to my madness. And besides.....can you say.....OH GREG, YOU MISSED MY BIRTHDAY...WHAT YOU WANT TO TAKE ME TO.....SHULLAH'S FOR DINNER.....see where this is headed. And remind me right before I go about that DQ thing!! I may have to use that!!! Besides, if he comes early Thursday, we stay until 5 Monday nite!!!! Not a bad deal if you ask me!! Birthday Button, here I come!!!! Off to do some more foot exercises.... and plan, plan, plan!!! I am just hoping it is not too crowded!
Any thoughts or experiances of going in mid March???? Do tell!!
